ENERGY:
Energy is the capacity of a physical system to
perform work. Energy exists in several forms such
as heat, kinetic or mechanical energy, light,
potential energy, electrical or other forms. Energy
is the ability to do work. Energy sources can be
classified as renewable and non-renewable
RENEWABLE AND NON-RENEWABLE
SOURCES OF ENERGY
1) NON- RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY:

Those sources of energy which have accumulated in nature

over a very very long time and cannot be quickly replaced when
exhausted, are called non-renewable sources of energy.

2) RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY:

Those sources of energy which are being produced continuously

in nature and are inexhaustible, are called as renewable sources
of energy.
UTTAR PRADESH
⚫ The majority of power generated in UP is reliant
on coal while the limited availability and high
prices of coal have aggravated the precarious
situation in UP. Hence there is an obvious need
to develop alternate sources of energy. UP is rich
in renewable resources like Biomass, Solar Energy
and Bio fuels of which Biomass has been
exploited. UP is also blessed with a good Solar
Irradiation to the tune of 1800KW per sqm.

UTTAR PRADESH
⚫ Non-conventional energy development agency(NEDA) was
setup in 1983 to formulate and implement projects aimed at
supplementing energy requirements of the state by
harnessing Solar Energy, Bio Energy, Wind Energy etc. Also in
January the UP cabinet approved the first ever solar energy
policy of the state which targets at producing 1000MW of
electricity through solar energy by 2017. Many other
programmes like Micro Hydel energy conservation and village
electrification programme has been developed.
ARUNACHAL PRADESH
⚫ Arunachal Pradesh is described as the future
powerhouse of INDIA with an estimated
58,000MW hydro power generation potential.
Major source of energy is small hydro and hydro
power. It also dependent on solar photovoltaics,
biomass, wind power plant and central sector
power. Coal is found and is used for various
power generation.

ARUNACHAL PRADESH
⚫ Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) is
implemented for renewable energy programmes, schemes,
policies etc. It has distributed solar street lights and lanterns,
solar cookers, LED lamps, tubes etc. it has designed the
village electrification programme, UJALA YOJANA, solar water
heating system, biomass programme and many more. The
govt. has even introduced the National Water Mission(NWM)
for conservation of water. Concerned efforts are being taken
to develop the power sector maximum from Hydel power
projects since it is in abundance in Arunachal Pradesh.
MEGHALAYA
⚫ Meghalaya is endowed with rich natural resources like
biomass gasification, solar energy and Bio gas. The hilly
terrain offer favorable conditions for harnessing small
and micro hydel projects. Meghalaya can generate
3700MW from various renewable resources. Also
Meghalaya is largely dependent on power from Hydel
Projects and others like coal, fossil fuels, biomass,
micro hydel and many others.
CONSERVATION OF ENERGY IN
MEGHALAYA
⚫ The MEHGALAYA New and Renewable energy Development
Agency (MNREDA) was created to formulate, identify and
implement the projects and distribution of save energy
devices. Also during the 12th five year plan the govt. will take
initiatives to popularize renewable energy sources and for
distributing LED solar lamps to all the school students in the
state and that too free of cost. They even have awareness
campaigns to promote saving energy by putting hoardings,
posters etc. in public places.
