LISTENING COMPREHENSION
Listen to the radio and complete the sentences:

Announcer: Hello listeners. Welcome to Radio Ucayali. It’s time for some good news and we
want to hear from you. Call us and tell us about people out there who are doing wonderful
things for our country.
Announcer: Hello! Can you tell us your name and where you are from?
Betty: Hi. My name is Betty. I’m 15 years old and I am from San Rafael.
Announcer: Who do you want to tell us about?
Betty: I want to tell you about Miss Karol. She is a teacher in San Rafael and she is 30 years
old. She’s making a big difference in our community. She is helping kids and teenagers study
and learn more.
Announcer: Interesting!
Betty: We don’t have good internet or TV in our village. So, she is using a loudspeaker to
broadcast the lessons from the radio to all of the students. She works with all of us to make
sure we understand our lessons. She’s amazing!
Announcer: Thank you for telling us about your teacher. She definitely is a Peruvian hero!
Betty: That’s right!

Activity 3: Let's Make a Difference

LET’S PRACTISE!
PRACTISE - EXERCISE 1

LISTENING COMPREHENSION

Listen to the podcast and correct the sentences.

Announcer:
Today we have a very interesting story about a very brave woman. Her name is Roxana, she
is 52 years old and she lives in Carabayllo.
She is making a difference in her neighborhood by cooking meals every day. She organized
a group of women in Carayllo and created “Olla Común”, a community organization that
helps people in need get a cheap or even a free meal, in this difficult situation. Let’s hear
what Roxana has to say.
Roxana:
Many people are losing their jobs and businesses are closing. We are a community, and we
have to help each other.

Announcer:
Roxana is the kind of super hero we need today. She is working with other 10 other women
to help approximately 50 families, but the community still needs more help.
Roxana:
We are doing everything we can to get enough food for everybody, every day. But it’s hard!
We need donations to keep cooking meals. Any donations of food or money are welcome.

Announcer:
Please donate to help Roxana’s Olla Común. The community needs you!
Roxana:
As I always say, “Together we are invincible!”
