2. Figure shows an area ABCDEF. Compute the moment of inertia of the above area about axis
K-K.
3. Find the moment of inertia of a T-section with flange as 150 mm × 50 mm and web as 150 mm
× 50 mm about X-X and Y-Y axes through the centre of gravity of the section.
4. Find Ixx , Iyy through centroid of the figure with a uniform thickness of 3cm throughout.
5. An I-section is made up of three rectangles as shown in figure. Find the moment of inertia of
the section about the horizontal axis passing through the centre of gravity of the section.
6. Find moment of inertia of the section about OX and OY axis as shown in figure.
7. Find the moment of inertia of a hollow section shown in Fig. 7.18. about an axis passing through
its centre of gravity or parallel X-X axis.
8. A rectangular hole is made in a triangular section as shown in figure. Determine the moment of
inertia of the section about X-X axis passing through its centre of gravity and the base BC.
9. Find the moment of inertia of the area in figure about the axis ‘AB’.
10. A column is made up of two channel ISJC 200 and two 25 cm x 1 cm flange plate each on top
and bottom of the channel as shown in figure. Determine the moment of inertia of the compound
section about centroidal axis. Also find the least radius of gyration. The properties of channel
section are:
A = 17.77 cm2; Ixx = 1162.2 cm4; Iyy = 84.2 cm4.
Distance of centroid from back of web = 1.97 cm.
11. A compound section is built-up by welding two plates 200 mm × 15 mm on two steel beams
ISJB 200 placed symmetrically side by side as shown in figure. What is the moment of inertia
of the compound section about an axis passing through its centre of gravity and parallel to X-
X axis? Take IXX for the ISJB section as 7.807 × 106 mm4.
