What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that
you cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry
connect to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?
When I opened my browser and search about video game affection, 70% of the topics are
about violent video game and aggressive behavior. This makes me feel more confused about it:
why video games are hated by so many people? Video games were invented for fun, relax, it
should be a very simple thing, but now day it becomes more complex. Also, the proportion of
men is much greater than in e-sports competitions, you can’t even find a female in it. These
questions from myself really confused me and interested me.
Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this
area of inquiry?
The most important, basic thing is the programming language, it is the key. I need to learn how
to use C++ to start everything. The second thing is the software to create the game. In this
project I chose unity 3D. The reason why I chose it is because unity 3d is easier for new
learner and Its development prospects are also more ambitious.
Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?
My dream is to create a game. To be successful, I need to know what type of game is more
welcome for everyone. For example, the violent game will cause more aggressive behavior, so I
probably should reduce the violent elements in the game. Creating a game is not only my own
ideas, but also need to connect with what others want. So, these inquiry questions are
necessary.
Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core
competencies will be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.
Creating a game is not easy. For now, a 3A game usually take 3-4 years to complete.
So responsibility is really important which you need to take the responsible to complete the
game.
Critical Thinking
Creative Thinking
A good idea is necessary to be successful. Repeating what other people had done is far
from enough, the game designer should have a unique idea to contact other people’s attention
to let them buy their game.
Social Responsibility
Many people play video games, so they will also infected by games. Games are not only
a virtual stuff, but also can connect to people’s life. So social responsibility is necessary for
game, every context the creator put into the game will cause different situation.
Communication
Creating a game usually take 1-2 years, it is impossible to create by your own, or when
you done your game, everything is outdated. So communication is necessary to improve the
game.
A game is for everyone who lived on the Earth, because every countries have their own
culture, so it’s necessary to understand their culture to avoid racism.
Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to
present your project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once
completed. You may use a combination of mediums.
I will use PPT to present my project. First of all, I will put how I did my project in the first part,
and then I will show my game and play it for a while and talk about the ideas about it. The last
part is to talk about the problem I faced during the project and what I have learned from the
project.
I will first search for how to make a game, what should I pay attention to. Making a
game is not just a simple code and graphics, I also need to understand what my game
wants to bring to the player, happiness or knowledge, or both? Then I will research for
the inquiry question such as How game affects people’s brains? Or like the educational
significance of video games. These questions are kind of important cause because the
connection with life can enhance the player's sense of substitution. For example, I can
set the COVID-19 as the boss in the game, and what the player needs to do is to find
the weapon (Vaccine) and abilities (restriction by the government) to strengthen
themselves, and then fight the boss. This game can not only connect to real life but also
can let players understand that how important the restrictions from the government are
and follow the rules like wearing the mask. What I need to solve for this is how to make
this game fun? Fun is the most important thing in a game, and it’s also the hardest part.
Fun is composed of many aspects, such as the type of game (FPS, RPG, RTS), the
context in the game (conversation, instruction), award, and so on. An interesting game
allows players to recollect and play repeatedly.
And because it is a project, after all, I must learn something from it. The first thing is
academic skills like programming, modeling. The second thing is the idea of how to
create a game. This is necessary for a game planner since if you have no idea how a
game works, how you plan a game. Also, during the research part, I have learned many
interesting things like the game can reduce gender differences. The new knowledge I
learned greatly improved my understanding of the game, and gradually understood why
the game can be so much controversial, and why it still exists. In this age of
entertainment supremacy, games can be said to be a necessity, which can bring
positive or negative effects. Through a game, players can always learn something,
whether it is as small as an English word or as large as the philosophy of life.
My ideal final product should be one that can make people laugh during the game and
think more about society after the game is over. My ideal final product should be one
that can make people laugh during the game and think more about society after the
game is over. This is very difficult for me. The knowledge I have is not enough to
support the completion of the entire game. I will first make some small levels and set the
basic framework of the game. After I have studied in university, I will perfect it.
Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and
skills you will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to
access/learn all of the resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail
your plans.
For programming language C#, I can easily find the instruction on net.
Also, same for the unity 3d, I can get the instruction by the software.
And the rest of the part, such as ideas should be all done by myself.
I need a mentor to help me check my code while I am coding. While I have two options, the first
one is to send an email to the game company such as Ubisoft ask for help. The other choice is
to ask online simply. The programmers are friendly, I had asked a lot of questions online during
computer programming class and they responded me with patient.
Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee
that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?
I think the idea part will affect my progress. There are a lot of choice, and for me, a new learner,
I have no idea which one is hard, and which one is easier, I probably need to try every idea and
then finally come up with the best one.
Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about
your project that you feel should be included in your project proposal.
What I am thinking is to create a game that has multiple checkpoint which mean I might be can’t
finish it in only 6 weeks. I will do several checkpoints but the rest of it I am thinking may be finish
them in the university and improve the previous content
