III. Learning Procedure


A. Preliminary Activity
1. Drill
Give the most appropriate unit of measure for the following (cm or m)
@floor tile
@table
@book
@garden plot
@door
@dura box

2. Review

Answer the following situations.

Group Activity:

Group 1. Carlo plays basketball. If he is 1 ¾ m tall how tall is he in cm?

How many ribbons in centimeter if do I have 12 meters of ribbon?

Group 2. The height of a mango tree is 1500cm. How many in meters?

A man weighs 57kg. What is his weight in grams?

Group 3. Liza needs 600cm lace for her table cloth. How many meters of lace she
needs to buy?

Rommel bought 30 000 grams of potatoes. How many kilograms of potatoes did
he bought.

3. Motivation

Look at your notebooks, books , paper. What is the appropriate unit of area measure
to used in notebook? books? paper? garden plot? Door? Floor tiles? Why?

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation
Post the problem on the board.

A. Jelchianne and Jaxine bought notebooks at the Citimart. They also bought plastic
cover for their notebooks.

2. Discussion

☻ What is the area of top of the notebook to be covered?

☻ What is the appropriate unit of area measure to be used? Why?

☻ What do we need to find the area in the problem?

☻ Let the pupils bring out one notebook. Let them show the area of the top of the
notebook to be covered?

☻ What measuring tool can we use to get the length of this notebook?

☻ What standard unit of measure can we use to get the length of this notebook? (cm or
m)

B. What appropriate unit of measure can we use in finding the area of this room?

☻ What unit of measure can we use to find the length of this room?

☻ What measuring tool/instrument can we use?

☻ What is the area of this square?

☻ When is it appropriate to use square meter to get the area figure or a space?

☻ Let pupils give more examples in which square meter is the appropriate unit of area
measure.

3. Generalization

☻When do we use square centimeter (sq. cm)? square meter (sq.m)

☻ When measuring smaller area, like a book, notebook, greeting card, etc., we use
the square centimeter (sq.cm).

☻ When measuring bigger area, like the garden, floor of a room, etc., use the square
meter (sq.m).

he will used?
