You are required to read the following narrative. Then, you are required to answer the
questions that follow:

You are required to select ONE of the industry/ business sector as listed below. Then,
identify an existing organization with the selected industry/business sector.

Recently you have had a series of meetings with the senior management to discuss on the
organization’s operational issues with need serious attention. The discussions were
focused around some key areas as follows:
 Location for the business
 The layout plan for the business
 The work design.
 The process strategy.
 Capacity Management

 The level of technology adoption in the process.


 The quality management system
 The inventory management system

(B)(ii) Required

Write a 2000-2500 words-long report on how the businesses plan can be


operationalised, incorporating all the key areas mentioned in the narrative by:

 Exploring the existing business operational structure


 Identify and analyse (How & Why) the challenges , issues and problems
 Recommendation and Preventive measures to overcome those challenges, issues
and problems.
 Future direction on the organization growth.

(C) Marking Guidelines

Students are expected to include the various operations principles which they have
learnt from Operations Management module, the challenges and practical solution/s as
follows:
(i)The various roles played by operation manager, such as manager of complexity,
manager of cost centre etc.
(ii)Process strategy decisions, such as product focus, process focus etc.
(iii)Appropriate production technology, technology in related services etc.
(iv)Location strategy based on one of the location analysis method, such as centre
of gravity method etc.
(v)Appropriate layout plan, such as process layout, product layout etc.
(vi)Appropriate work design, such as work compensation, work measurement etc.
(vii)Adoption of various principles of quality management, such as ISO 9001
certification, TQM etc.
(viii)Adoption of appropriate inventory control measures, such as EOQ, JIT etc.
(ix)Appropriate Supply Chain Management adoption of the type of purchasing
strategy etc.

*Note:
The awarding of marks depends on the appropriateness of the selection of the individual
method/principle for each of the above-mentioned details, and the inter-relationship as
well as the inter-dependence between each other.

Assessment Criteria:

Group Report (30 %):

A Written Group report of as per the requirement on B (i) & (ii).

Group Presentation

Approximate of 20 minutes will be allocated for each group to present your group report on
PowerPoint format. Each group member MUST present their contribution towards their group
report.

Individual Presentation (10 marks): (10%)


 Quality of Presentation (slides, video clips etc.)          (5 marks)

Individual Reflective Report (10 Marks) (10%)


  Understanding the model and concept (5 marks)
 Transforming theory into practice         (5 marks)

Each group member MUST produce a written reflective report (2-3 pages) which
consists of learning outcome of the module.

individual/personal research & learning.
(b) Application of learning outcome in your present and future employment /
business.
