READ INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING

QUESTIONS PAPER.

 Time allowed for submission of paper on portal is six hours.

 Read Question Paper before writing solution.
 Teachers will be available in discussion room to resolve your confusions about
question paper.
 You need to write your solution on a register paper (A4 / Legal). Do not use other
papers and do not type / compose your solution.
 Your solution must be handwriting. Write your answers neat and clean. Avoid cutting
and overwriting.
 After solving your questions paper, you need to get clear image / picture of each page
of your answer sheet (use cam scanner) and arrange all scanned images / pictures in
sequence and create a single PDF document.
 Rename the solution file (PDF File ) with your name and registration number.
(example BSCS021R2010AliAhmad)
 Don’t upload separate pages / images or other document formats.
 First / Top page of your answer sheet (Register Page) must contain the following
information.
Student Name: Registration No:
Course Tile Class Section
Session Teacher Name
Date: No of Pages attached
Student Signature

 Each page of your answer sheet (Register Page) must contain the following
information.
Registration No Name Page No
(Page no must be in the format as (1 / 7) 1 is current page and 7 is total no of pages
used for solution.
 Solve your question paper by yourself. Copying material from other source will
be considered illegal. Copying material from Internet / Book will also be
considered illegal and treated as plagiarized and may cause cancellation of
question(s).
 Do not share your answer sheet or solutions with any other student. Any
material found similar to other student will cause cancellation of questions(s).
 Your solution will be analyzed analytically by your teachers so avoid solving
your question paper from outsider (outsource). Your solutions will also be
compared with your assignments.
 Each Paper will check through plagiarism software.
 You can contact your teacher regarding any kind of help / confusion about
question paper understanding.

Question No 01: [8]Marks
a) Find the minimum-cost SOP and POS forms for the function
f (x1, x2, x3, x4) = ∑(0, 2, 8, 9, 10, 15) (2)
b) ABC'D +A'BD + ABCD reduce to two literals using Boolean algebraic laws. (2)
c) A circuit with two outputs has to implement the following functions
f (x1, x2, x3, x4) = ∑ (0, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9)
g (x1, x2, x3, x4) =∑ (2, 4, 9, 10, 15)
Design the minimum-cost circuit and compare its cost with combined costs of two circuits that
implement f and g separately. Assume that the input variables are available in both un-
complemented and complemented forms. (4)

Question No 02: [8]Marks

a) Use the K-Map method to find a minimum cost SOP realization for the function
f (x1, x2, x3, x4) = ∑ (0, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11) (4)

b) Use the Mc. Quins method to find a minimum cost SOP realization for the function

F(A, B, C, D) = ∑ (1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 15) (4)

Question No 03: [9]Marks
a) Consider the logic expressions (4)
f (A, B, C, D) = (0, 6, 8, 13, 14)
g (A, B, C, D) = (4, 12, 7, 2, 10)
Prove or disprove that f = g.
b) Consider the given function. F (A ,B ,C) = ∑(0,1,2, 4, 7) (5)
i. Find the complement of function and write its Boolean expression.
ii. Draw the circuit diagram of complemented function.
iii. Draw the circuit diagram of original function
iv. Draw the circuit diagram of simplified function. (Use any simplification method)
v. Draw the truth table for original function and simplified function.
