Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 2

A. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
1. Realize the importance of keeping distance and wearing mask;
2. Differentiate rhyming words from non-rhyming words; and
3. Supply words that rhyme with given words.

B. Subject Matter
1. Topic: Rhyming words
2. Selection: I’m Keeping My Distance by Kenn Nesbitt
3. Reference: English K-12 Curriculum Guide page 30
4. Materials: PowerPoint presentation

C. Procedure
1. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Checking of attendance
c. Classroom management
d. Energizer

2. Pre-reading Activities
a. Developing concepts/vocabularies(Unlocking difficulties)
i. Teacher presents unfamiliar words that may cause
confusion to the students while listening to the poem.
ii. The unfamiliar words will be discussed and explained in
context.
iii. Introduces Rhyming words and Non-rhyming words
 Rhyming words: two or more words that have the
exact same ending sound or a similar ending sound.
 Non-rhyming words: words that have different
ending sounds.

b. Developing a purpose for reading


i. Motivation question: Was there a time when you avoided
or keep your distance from other people? Why did you
keep your distance?
ii. Motive question: Why did the speaker in the poem keep
her distance from other people?

3. During reading
a. Manner of Presentation: Read-Aloud Strategy
b. Question: How did the speaker from the poem keep her
distance from other people?

4. Post-reading Activities
a. Answer the motive question.
b. Are there words with similar ending sounds in the poem?

5. Application
a. Asks students to give words from the poem that has similar
ending sounds.
b. Teacher will say two set of words from the poem and the
students will choose which of the words rhyme and does not
rhyme.

6. Generalization
 Rhyming words have similar ending sounds while non-rhyming
words do not have.
 Use the stanzas on the poem that have rhyming words as
examples.

I. Read the words carefully and put a check (√) if it rhymes and (x)
if it does not rhyme.
