Xerox case Article Review

Student name: Jairo Alberto Guerrero Vargas
Paragraph 1: In your own words, what is the meaning of Xerox´s slogan: “Made to
think”?

In my opinion, the slogan presented by Xerox tries to communicate that the company has
excellent capacities for innovation, that its strength lies in the development of highly
competitive cutting-edge technology, with just three words, they make it clear that xerox
has the wood to take on challenges in this area. In addition, this slogan is quite short,
typical of a direct message that intends to impact its receiver, the final word should not
be left aside, which is the part in which its innovative potential lies, this word "think"
clearly indicates that its potential lies in intangible products, it may well be
organizational methods, procedures, or software, any of which is configured as an
important strategy to improve any company.

Paragraph 2: What concepts do you find interesting to understand strategic management

in a company?

Since I saw the title of the course, it seemed interesting to me to know the methods and
all the framework that exists to carry out an adequate planning of the activities necessary
to achieve a goal within an organization, I think that strategic management goes beyond
the Planning requires more work and more detail, these two characteristics being the ones
that make a difference in a general planning of the company's objectives, I would like to
learn to analyze situations, correctly interpret indicators of project progress, I am also
interested in identifying Clearly the goals to be traced, the above because in long-term
8

projects, the initial intention tends to be lost as the process develops, and finally I want to
learn to adequately develop suitable strategies that allow me to optimize the base
resources to meet and exceed expectations in the achievement of objectives

Paragraph 3: What do you find relevant of the retrenchment strategy implemented by

Xerox? Do you think it is a good option?

When reviewing the strategy that Xerox implemented, I must confess that I have never
agreed with the reduction of personnel, although it is true, the company's analysts were
able to demonstrate that a considerable reduction in costs will be obtained with a model
oriented to continuous improvement. that pursues the maximum use of active personnel,
for the reduction of costs there are more alternatives, some of which, although the
personnel is not reduced, the profits of the company can be enhanced, there truly is a
strategic management, I consider that the Reduction of personnel is one of the last
actions to be carried out, when the other variants have been thoroughly evaluated and
analyzed.

Paragraph 4: What is the importance of outlining the company´s strategy and plans?

Planning is important because it establishes an order, anticipates possible risks, draws the
roadmap for the execution of business operations, in the same way the strategy is
fundamental, it projects and directs these same operations, only that it performs an
exhaustive meditation to generate the steps to follow to achieve an end; Both terms
complement each other, creating a synergy that objectively appreciates the current
situation of organizations, their possible opportunities and the future to come, measuring
and analyzing the availability of resources to get the most out of them in order to achieve
the objectives. of the company, assertively linking the previous analysis with the
execution of the company's activities.
