1.Program Outline
This program offers the laboratory training and lectures in laboratories belonging to Graduate
School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University for ten competent graduate students in foreign
countries. The program period for each student is basically 35 days in a row between April 2019
and March 2020. Duration of stay is possible between 32 and 62 days.
(1) All the lectures, research work will be conducted in English.
(2) Students will receive two unit of credit, if he/she has completed the program with satisfactory
academic performance.
2.Scholarship
About 11 students will receive 160,000 Japanese yen as a scholarship for the part of travel charge
(round-trip airplane charge) and staying charge in Sapporo.
3.Study Areas
(1) Applicants for any field related to the subjects for the laboratories in our Graduate School will
be accepted. The following website will provide more information to applicants.

Applicants must consult with the contact professor (or associate professor) of your study
before submitting your application. The application will not be considered, if the
application is not approved by the contact professor.
4.Qualification Requirements
4-1. Applicants are required to be not Japanese students in foreign countries.
4-2. Applicants are required to have a GPA requirement of score more than 2.30 (3.00 as full score)
during the recent academic year(s), which needs to be confirmed by the home university of
applicant.
4-3. Applicants have difficulty to participate in this program at their own expenses.
4-4. Language: Applicants must be fluent in English.
4-5. Applicants aren't now applying for any program supported by. Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

5. Application
5-1. Important notice for application
(1) Applicants should contact, and discuss well with your host professor at home university, in
advance. Applications without such pre-discussion are not accepted.
(2) An original and a copy of the application form must be checked by the host professor, before
submission to Hokkaido University.
(3) After the application, any cancellation is NOT permitted.
(4) The payment of scholarship to an enrolled student may be terminated if any of the
information supplied with an application is later found to be false. Admission can be canceled
any time after enrollment.
(1) A completed application form for the Short-Stay program in Graduate School of Agriculture,
Hokkaido University in 2019. (use the attached format, print on both sides, paste your
photograph as specified)
(2) A photocopy of certificate of enrollment for undergraduate student, certificate of student
status and certificate of Bachelor's degree and Master’s degree (if you have).
(3) Official academic transcript of all applicable undergraduate course work (and Master's course
work if you have) from your home university.
(4) A document describing the score of GPA or equivalent (place of the candidate in the course,
classification by A/B/C etc.) at undergraduate course (and Master's course if you have) to
show that the candidate is excellent.
(5) A certificate of English proficiency: Submit a certificate of English proficiency test such as
TOEFL (highly recommended), or a certificate issued by an English teaching staff of
university from which you graduated (use the format provided in this application form).
This information is included in 5th page of application form.
(6) A photocopy of passport.
(7) A letter of recommendation to the Dean of Graduate School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University
(Prof. Dr. Takanori Nishimura) by the Dean or Head of the applicant’s university/institution
who has personal knowledge about the applicant.

Remarks:
(1) The above documents should be type-written in English (use word processing software as far
as you can), prepared in uniform size based on the A4 or letter size format, and printed on
both sides.
(2) Applications will not be accepted if any of the above documents are incomplete, incorrect or
lacking supporting evidence.
(3) All documents once submitted will not be returned.
Other Remarks
(1) A short-term visa will be used to come to Japan and participate in the Short-Stay program.
We will send you an official acceptance letter to facilitate the process of obtaining the visa to
Japan.
(2) Applicants are requested to take a travel insurance before coming to Japan.
(3) Personal accident insurance for students pursuing education and research:
This insurance compensates for physical casualties, from which students suffer in their intra-
curricular activities, both on and off campus, and extra-curricular activities on campus. All the
students must be insured before starting research activities. The premium is 1,340 Japanese Yen
for one year (the premium may be changed without prior notification). Applicant receives the
official application form about insurance from Hokkaido University.
(4) Students have to have medical/travel insurance and bring the details of the insurance policy,
including the certificate of the insurance.
(5) Applicants are requested to perform a debriefing on the program at their own universities.
Privacy Policy
Names, addresses, and other personal information provided to the university on application
documents will be used solely for enrollee selection, the announcement of exam results, and
admission procedures. The personal information of those who are accepted for admission shall also
be used for administrative purposes after enrollment (student registration, academic counseling,
etc.), student support services (health management, scholarship applications, etc.), and
administrative tasks related to tuition, etc.
Only the names and addresses of applicants will be used to facilitate communications from the

Hokkaido University Frontier Foundation and two other organizations associated with the
university: the Hokkaido University Athletic Union and Hokkaido University Clark Memorial
Foundation.
