2.3.3 Torque
The 7 available sizes cover a torque range from 0.5 Nm to 95 Nm.
The dynamic peak torque reaches 1.9 Nm to 320 Nm.
2.3.10 Painting
CMP. motors are painted with black machine paint RAL 9005 as per DIN 1843 as
standard. Special coatings and other colors are available on request.
19381212/EN – 03/2015
2.3.12 Brakemotors
The motors can be equipped with an integrated mechanical brake on request.
The brake is controlled by a brake controller that is either installed in the inverter or
separately in the control cabinet.
BP brake / BK brake
BP and BK brakes are DC-operated electromagnetic disk brakes. They release electri-
cally, and brake using spring force (BP brakes) or magnetic force (BK brakes). The
brakes are applied automatically if the power fails. This means they meet the basic
safety requirements. The brakes cannot be retrofitted and usually operate without
brake rectifier or brake control unit.
BY brake
This is a DC-operated electromagnetic disk brake that is released electrically and ap-
plied with spring force. A characteristic feature of this brake is its extremely short de-
sign. The brake endshield is a part of both the motor and the brake. The integrated
construction of the SEW‑EURODRIVE brakemotor permits particularly compact and
sturdy solutions.
The brake can also be released mechanically if it is equipped with manual brake re-
lease. In this case, a lockable hand lever with automatic reset is included in the deliv-
ery.
The BY brake is also available as safety-rated brake for use in functional safety appli-
cations. In this case (FS) is added to the name.

5.6.3 Applications
High accelerations
The rotor of the CMP synchronous servomotor is designed to be low-inertia. These
motors are the optimum choice in very dynamic applications. For high accelerations
and accelerations in the millisecond range, the synchronous servomotor is usually the
technically and economically best solution.
Cogging
The motors produce small torque ripple due to the servo drive design. This torque rip-
ple is corrected by the inverter.

INFORMATION
The PWM frequency for MOVIAXIS® can be set to 4 kHz, 8 kHz, and 16 kHz. For
more more project planning information in addition to the overviews of combinations
for 4 kHz shown here, refer to the "MOVIAXIS® Multi-Axis Servo Inverters" system
manual. 6
INFORMATION
Due to the higher output frequency, the following motors must be operated with a
PWM frequency of at least 8 kHz:
• CMP40 to 63 for speed class 6000 rpm 6
• CMP71 to 112 for speed classes 4500 rpm and 6000 rpm
INFORMATION
The following project planning guidelines apply to the operation of CMP71 to 112 mo-
tors:
• The motor load must not exceed a maximum of four times the rated motor current
I0.
• The current of MOVIDRIVE® B must be limited to the following values:
– For size 0 to 166% IN
– For sizes 1 to 6 to 125% IN
• The following combination overviews take account of these project planning
guidelines.

system
voltage
INFORMATION
Due to the higher output frequency, the following motors must be operated with a
PWM frequency of at least 8 kHz:
• CMP40 to 63 for speed class 6000 rpm
• CMP71 to 112 for speed classes 4500 rpm and 6000 rpm
INFORMATION
The following project planning guidelines apply to the operation of CMP71 to 112 mo-
tors:
• The motor load must not exceed a maximum of four times the rated motor current
I0.
• The current of MOVIDRIVE® B must be limited to the following values:
– For size 0 to 166% IN
– For sizes 1 to 6 to 125% IN
• The following combination overviews take account of these project planning
guidelines.

8 BK brakes
8.1 Description of BK brakes (CMP40 to CMP63)
The mechanical brake is a holding brake implemented as a permanent magnet brake.
The standard voltage supply of the brake is DC 24 V, and it operates with a fixed brak-
ing torque per brake size.
The BK brake cannot be retrofitted and usually operates without brake rectifier or
brake control unit.
If servomotors are operated on the MOVIAXIS® servo inverter, overvoltage protection
is provided. If servomotors are operated on MOVIDRIVE® or inverters of other manu-
facturers, overvoltage protection must be implemented by the customers themselves
using varistors, for example.
Observe the notes in the relevant operating instructions for the inverters concerning
the switching sequence of motor enable and brake control during standard operation.
The BK brake can be used up to a rated speed of 6000 rpm.
The BK brake is a permanent magnet holding brake with emergency stop function. It is
different from the BP brakes through its fixed coil polarity.
The BK brake can be used for the following rated speeds depending on the motor
size:

Braking torque
The braking torque is usually selected according to the required holding torque and
the required deceleration.
The nominal braking torque values of the BK brakes have been determined and
checked in accordance with DIN VDE 0580.
Working capacity
The required working capacity of the brake is determined by the application parame-
ters and indicates the amount of braking energy the brake has to receive during a
braking operation.
INFORMATION
Application of the brake is no longer ensured if the permitted braking work per brak-
ing operation W1 is exceeded during deceleration from speed, or once the total per-
mitted braking work Winsp is reached. In this case, no braking occurs.

9 BP brakes
9.1 Description of BP brakes (CMP71 to CMP100)
The mechanical brake is a holding brake implemented as a spring-loaded brake.
The brake has a standard supply voltage of DC 24 V and operates with one or two
braking torque ratings for each motor size (→ 2 256).
The brake cannot be retrofitted and usually operates without brake rectifier or brake
control unit.
If servomotors are operated on the MOVIAXIS® servo inverter, overvoltage protection
is provided.
If servomotors are operated on MOVIDRIVE® or inverters of other manufacturers,
overvoltage protection must be implemented by the customers themselves using va-
ristors, for example.
Observe the notes in the relevant operating instructions for the inverters concerning
the switching sequence of motor enable and brake control during standard operation.
The BP brake can be used for the following rated speeds depending on the motor
size:

Braking torque
The braking torque is usually selected according to the required holding torque and
the required deceleration.
The nominal braking torque values of the BP brakes have been determined and
checked in accordance with DIN VDE 0580.

10 BY brakes
10.1 Description of BY brakes (CMPZ71 to CMPZ100, CMP112)
On request, SEW‑EURODRIVE motors can be supplied with an integrated mechanical
brake. The brake is a DC-operated electromagnetic disk brake with a high working ca-
pacity that is released electrically and is applied using spring force. The brake is ap-
plied in case of a power failure. It meets the basic safety requirements.
The brake can also be released mechanically if equipped with manual brake release.
The manual brake release function is self-reengaging (..HR). A hand lever is supplied.
The /HR manual brake release option in combination with a /VR forced cooling fan is
only available for CMP112.
The brake is controlled by a brake controller that is either installed in the control cabi-
net or in the terminal box.
A main advantage of brakes from SEW‑EURODRIVE is their very short design. The
integrated construction of the brakemotor permits particularly compact and sturdy sol-
utions.
Observe the notes in the relevant operating instructions concerning the switching se-
quence of motor enable and brake control during standard operation.
The BY brake can be used for the following rated speeds depending on the motor
size:

INFORMATION
The response and application times are guide values that were determined at maxi-
mum braking torque.
Possible response times of switching elements or controllers were not taken into ac-
count.
The following table lists the permitted friction work from which the braking procedure is
triggered, depending on the start speed. The lower the speed, the higher the permitted
braking work.
INFORMATION
If you do not stop the motor in an inverter-controlled manner but use the brake for
mechanical deceleration, you must check whether the brake can supply the braking
work required for the brake application speed in an emergency switching off situation
(→ 2 271).
INFORMATION
If the braking work W1 (all applications) is exceeded, the increased braking work W1
(only travel drive applications) can be used in the case of a travel drive application.

• SBA and SBH additionally require the SBC safety function for safety-related shut-
down of the power supply of the brake.
• Depending on the configuration and use in the application, a drive can generate
more torque than the brake is able to hold/stop. When activating the SBA/SBH
safety function, the drive must be switched off with the STO safety function.
• SBA and SBH are defined by SEW-EURDORIVE based on the standard
DIN EN 61800‑5‑2.

Description
SEW‑EURODRIVE offers Hiperface® encoders also as multi-turn absolute encoders
as an alternative to the resolver. Encoders with a high resolution are also available in
addition to the standard.
INFORMATION
The encoder signal can be influenced when applying the brake from speed. It is
therefore important that the inverter defines its encoder position again after this proc-
ess. This is not necessary in regular operation when the brake is actuated at stand-
still.
19381212/EN – 03/2015
When prefabricating the encoder cables, ensure correct polarity for the supply outputs.

General information
Hiperface® encoders AK0H and AK1H are optionally available for functional safety.
Using safety-rated encoders lets you implement safety functions SS1, SS2, SOS,
SLA, SLS, SDI, and SLI according to IEC 61800‑5‑2.
Certain demands on the mechanical coupling of the encoder system to the motor must
be met so that the encoder can be used for safety-relevant tasks.
SEW‑EURODRIVE assumes responsibility for the delivered motor with safety-rated
encoder in terms of compliance with the functional safety regulations. Safety-relevant
connection elements are sealed to be able to ensure that the delivery condition is not
changed, see following figures.

/TF
Description
Thermal motor protection prevents the motor from overheating and causing irrepara-
ble damage. The TF is a triple PTC thermistor. One TF is installed in every motor
phase and then connected in series.
A PTC thermistor is a resistance whose resistance value rises significantly from a
nominal response value as the temperature rises. Please refer to the following charac-
teristic curve.
The temperature sensor /TF can be designed as follows:
• in thermal class 155 (F)
• in thermal class 180 (H)
• in a double version
– for warning in 130 (B) and for disconnection in 155 (H),
– for warning in 155 (F) and for disconnection in 180 (H).
Please contact us if you are considering the double /TF design.
INFORMATION
The temperature sensor /TF may not be subjected to voltages > 30 V.

11.4.1 Description
Synchronous servomotors can be equipped with a forced cooling fan if requested. The
VR forced cooling fan is available for DC 24 V (CMP50 to CMP112, CMPZ71 to
CMPZ100).
A forced cooling fan can be retrofitted to these motors later using a retrofit set.
For CMPZ71 to CMPZ100 motors, the forced cooling fan /VR option can no longer be
combined with the manual brake release /HR option.
INFORMATION
The forced cooling fan can only be used up to a maximum oscillation and shock load
of 1 g.
INFORMATION
Before retrofitting a forced cooling fan, it is important to check whether the previously
used motor plug connectors/cables are permitted for the increased current consump-
tion.
