1. OBJECTIVE
This method statement covers on-site installation of pre-fabricated Duct work – supports –
expansion and anchor points for ducting system.
2. Scope of Work:
2.1 . General
This method of statement describes the procedure to be implemented on site for installation of
HVAC Pre-Fabricated Ducts, Elbows, In Line installation and final connections and
workmanship are correct and acceptable confirming to the contract documents and general
specifications. For delivery and installation of Pre-Fabricated Duct-Work systems
manufactured from hot dipped galvanized steel sheet to S.M.A.C.N.A
2.6 .Materials :
a. When received at site, each Duct box and fittings and its related accessories and hanging
materials shall be checked for quantities, Model Nos., physical damages etc. and notify
supplier of any discrepancies for suitable rectification or replacement.
b. Any items found damaged or not found suitable as per the project requirements shall be
quarantined. Non-compliant material shall be clearly marked and stored separately to
prevent any inadvertent use until returned to vendor.
c. Delivery, Storage and Handling shall be the responsibility of SA and Site Engineers.
d. When off-loading, the materials shall be slowly lowered, not to be suddenly dropped in
the ground.
e. The above materials shall be given adequate support at all times and shall be stacked on
a flat surface free from any sharp objects and shall be stored in original boxes and only
to be open upon installations.
1 Verify that approved procedures for handling, storage and preservation of the materials lists
all the required inspection schedules for maintaining the quality of the material and /or
equipment
2 Fabricated Ducts delivered from duct workshop to be stored in dry-clean and safe area to be
selected on site.
3 All materials drawings and other documentation relevant to a particular section of works will
be checked prior to the commence of work ensuring that these are of the correct type as
reviewed by the client.
4 Before commencing any Duct works, pre-inspections will be carried out on all materials prior
to them leaving the storage area i.e. Quantity, physical damage etc.
5 Safe access to work areas shall be provided
6 Materials shall be moved to the work area in safe manner and shall not block/egress from/to
the site
7 Suitable mechanical aids shall be used where heavy loads are to be moved or lifted in to
position, such equipment shall be planned for in advance of works.
8 It should be noted that any leakage within the duct will cause sound noise.
1. Foreman will instruct regarding the execution of the works and will distribute all
necessary drawings of the latest revision.
2. Ensure horizontal Ductwork is adequately supported at equal distanced in accordance
with construction drawings with all brackets fixed to the vertical face of ribbed beams of
the structure.
3. Care will be taken during setting out, that ductwork runs between ceiling module lines so
as to maintain maximum flexibility for any future relocation of lighting fixtures or other
services.
4. Ductwork supports and hangers will be placed as per SMACNA standard.
5. Screwed drop rods will have thread adjustment in either direction available after leveling
of ductwork and associated plenum boxes.
6. Ducts will be supported of mating flanges or joints according to SMACNA standard
7. Ductwork passing through non fire rated walls and floors will be adequately supported on
either side.

8. All locknuts are tightened correctly. At all open end's check for debris then cover with
suitable material to prevent any ingress of debris vermin, or moisture.
9. During installation to ensure that there are no dents, buckling of ducting that damage
sheet metal work will be rejected
10. Ducting to be installed allowing sufficient space for expansion/contraction and thermal
insulation.
11. Continuously check horizontal and vertical alignment of ductwork and compliance with
contractors drawings and specification requirements by using spirit level plumb or other
suitable instrument
12. Supervisor to ensure that all completed installations look neat and tidy, and there is
adequate spacing between ductwork and in line equipment allowing access for operation
and ease of maintenance.
Joints, seams and fittings of duct systems shall be made substantially airtight by means of tapes,
mastic, jacketing or other approved methods
PART B: INSULATION:
This procedure is applicable for insulation of all supply and return mains, headers, branches,
risers, , Duct work, fittings, connections associated with the Ducting system installation .
2.8.3.2 Responsibilities
HVAC engineer and supervisor shall be responsible for implementation of this procedure and
ensure the quality of insulation work is good.
2.8.5 Inspection
a. Ducts shall be visually inspected to ensure that it has been installed in accordance
with the applicable project specification, codes, standards and the system IFC
drawings.
b. Visual inspection of duct, deflection, correct support interval and elevation.
c. Verify rigidity of supports to maintain required location as shown on the approved
IFC drawings.
d. Visual inspection of workman ship and quality of work, such as: joints, tightness
and ducts finished surfaces.
a. After completing a specified area of duct work, the QC engineer has to be informed
by the contractor for scheduling for the smoke test.as per the project specs and
requirements
b. The duct or zone need to be tested .should be closed from all sides, all grills and
diffusers for both return and supply has to be closed.
c. Smoke fan has to be used , with a suitable static pressure and flow rate to the tested
zoon
d. An opening in the duct has to be maintained for the smoke fan in order to blow the
smoke inside
e. Smoke candles or equivalent has to be used and inserted inside the duct , suitable to
the area to be tested
f. Visual inspection has to take over in order to see the leak of air in the form of
smoke leakage
g. Area where leak were found ,should be marked and repaired later on then tested
again in the same procedure

h. If no more leakage has been observed, then the test is satisfactory completed and
QA/QC representative confirms accuracy of test results as witnessed.
i. After completion of testing, system shall be cleaned by opening the ducts sides and
the supply and return diffusers and grills
a) He will be responsible on project planning and project scheduling and coordinating to the
K&A for the associated work schedule and activities.
b) Responsible on overlooking the activities on the project and preparing work progress.
a) Responsible on executing and supervising the activities as per approved shop drawings.
b) Checking all the shop drawings and materials if conforming to approved specification and
project requirements.
c) Monitor productivity, quality and reports to the Project Manager.
d) Responsible for leading safety and enforcing compliance with HSE procedures of work
activities at site.
3.3 QAQC Manager/QAQC Engineer/Inspector
a) Responsible on overseeing the quality requirements and quality control measures of the
project.
b) Ensuring the proper implementation of QA/QC program as per Project Quality Plan.
c) Check and control project documentation.
d) Ensure equipment traceability records are filled up and recorded.

3.4 Supervisor/Foreman
a) Assist the Site Engineer in implementing the approved drawings.
b) Monitor at all time the site execution and installation works.
c) Report to the Site Engineer any conflict of on-going activities with other trade services.
d) Attend inspection, testing and commissioning together with Site Engineer and QC Inspector.
e) Monitor productivity, quality, safety and reports to the Site Engineer.
4.1 Guidelines
a. Person working with welding works shall wear the personal protective equipment's at all times
on the job site.
b. Warning sign boards shall be provided where necessary to isolate the working area and
prevent un-authorized personnel.
c. All equipment shall be tagged and checked before using.
d. Housekeeping shall be done before and after working to maintain cleanliness in the area.
4.2 EMERGENCY PROCEDURE
4.2.1. Communication
As a minimum, the Project Manager shall ensure that HSE Communication Flow and
Emergency Telephone Numbers are complete, kept up to date and circulated on Project HSE
Notice Boards.
2. Upon discovering an accident, call to attract the attention of others nearby to assist you
and ensure any injured person is in no further danger
5 ENVIRONMENTAL
1. Project Quality Plan shall be followed at all times during the project execution, T&C
and handover. Quality management and policy shall be accomplished at all times.
2. QC Engineers shall monitor all these stages and Request For Inspection (RFI) shall be
submitted only if the works is properly executed.
3. Site Engineers and QC Engineers to ensure all inspections and testing being carried-
out are based on Inspection and Test Plan (ITP). Also all materials will be based on
approved MIR & specification requirements.
