• POSTERS
Future University, an Egyptian Private University, was founded by the late, Dr. Hasan Azazy. Currently, Mr. Khaled
Azazy, J.D. is the chairman of the board of trustees. The board of trustees includes former ministers of high
education and distinguished professors and governors.
FUE includes faculties of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Industries, Oral and Dental Medicine,
Computers and Information Technology, Commerce and Business Administration, Economics and Political Science.
The College of Pharmacy, under the leadership of Dean Osama Salama is collaborating with prestigious
international universities: Nova Southeastern University, USA, Temple University, USA and Basel University,
Switzerland. A team from Nova University headed by Dean Andres Malave presented a two weeks intensive course
in Clinical Pharmacy in December 2008. Dr. Gabi Betz, Uni Basel presented a Pharmaceutical Technology course in
February 2010. Temple University professor and Associate Dean Maged Abou Gharbia, and his team taught module
courses and presented a workshop with Dr. Okasha in April 2010.

Dr. Tom Sam is Director Global CMC Regulatory Affairs, MSD, the Netherlands with a PhD in
Chemistry and a Master degree in Business Management. He has over 30 years of experience in
pharmaceutical development and regulatory affairs. Tom is past president of the Netherlands
Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences and of FIP's Industrial Pharmacy Section, and vice chair of
AAPS' Manufacturing Science & Engineering section. Tom is recipient of the Leiden University Franc
Himont Award and Biochemistry Medal. He is Distinguished Professor at Beijing University, Visiting
Professor at Yeditepe University, and is Fellow of the International Pharmaceutical Federation.
Prof. Dr. Clive George Wilson is J. P. Todd Chair of Pharmaceutics, Strathclyde Institute of
Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences, Glasgow, U.K. and President, European Union Federation of
Pharmaceutical Sciences. Major areas of research have been the study of the behaviour of drug
formulations in man. He pioneered applications of scintigraphy in the study of physiological and
patho-physiological effects of transit on drug absorption following oral, nasal, pulmonary and
ophthalmic delivery. He advised 54 completed Ph.D. and students, the research resulting more
than 152 papers, 71 review papers and book chapters, 6 books and many communications.
Prof. Dr. Saleh Al Suwayeh is Professor and Chairman of Department of Pharmaceutics, College of
Pharmacy, King Saud University, Riyadh, K.S.A. and Chairman of the Saudi FDA technical registration
committee. He also has extensive experience in conducting and evaluating bioequivalence studies.
In addition, he contributed to writing many guidelines for the Saudi FDA including: Bioequivalence
Guidelines, Clinical Studies Guideline, Stability Guidelines and Saudi Drug Law. He has published
many articles in peer-reviewed journals and has represented KSU, Saudi MOH and Saudi FDA at
national and international conferences on science and regulation related topics.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Adel Sakr is Board of Trustees Chair Assistant for Graduate Studies, Research
& International Affairs, Future University, Egypt, Emeritus Professor of Industrial Pharmacy
& Pharmaceutics, and Director of the Industrial Pharmacy Graduate Program at the College of
Pharmacy, University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Dr. Sakr’s primary areas of interest include
the design and optimization of immediate and modified release tablet formulation and
manufacturing processes. He has more than 50 years of international academic and industrial
experience, more than 160 internationally published research papers and has presented more
than 450 conference presentations, invited presentations and/or workshops. Dr. Sakr is an elected
Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, FIP Fellow and Graduate Fellow
of the University of Cincinnati. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award
of the University of Cincinnati and was awarded DOCTOR HONORIS CAUSA in the year 2000. Dr.
Sakr is Emeritus Congress Chair, FIP-Industrial Pharmacy Section, the recipient of the 2008 AAPS
Outstanding Educator Award and the 2011 AAPS Research Achievement Award in Manufacturing
Science and Engineering.
Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab is Dean College of Pharmacy and Professor of Pharmaceutics, Suez
Canal University. He supervises the research projects department at STDF. He is consultant for some
pharmaceutical companies. He is the recipient of the Encouragement state prize in medicine. He
was Research Trainee, College of Pharmacy, University of Montreal and Post-Doctoral at University
of Utah, USA.
Engineer Dale Natoli, President of Natoli Engineering Company, Inc., has over 32 years
troubleshooting in the tablet compression industry. Natoli has published articles for major
pharmaceutical publications and authored chapters in three books, including the “Tablet
Specification Manual”, sponsored by the American Pharmaceutical Association. He presents
lectures for universities, pharmaceutical associations and tablet manufacturers worldwide.
Engineer Doug Kirsch is the Technical Service Manager for the tablet press division at Natoli
Engineering Company, Inc. With over 40 years of experience in the tablet compression industry, he
has been with Natoli for over 30 years and has trained press operators and maintenance technicians
worldwide. He began his career training in the U.K. with Manesty machines and then served as a
Technical Service Representative for Manesty tablet presses over 10 years. For the next three years,
he served as the Maintenance Manager for tablet compression at General Nutrition Corporation.
Dr. Marcus Knöll is a pharmacist and graduated from Philipps Universität Marburg/Germany.
He accomplished his doctoral thesis "Enteric coated Mucoadhesive Micropellets in Rotary
Agglomeration Process for Wet Spheronization“(2002-2005). He is Head of Pharma Service at
OYSTAR Hüttlin, Schopfheim/Germany since 2005 with four co-workers.

Engineer Christoph Riedel, P.E. graduated from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute New York
with a BS in mechanical engineering. He worked 7 years for an EVONIK PMMA processing plant in
the US as project engineer, process engineer and maintenance manager. In the last 12 years he has
been involved in international sales of process equipment from EKATO and now from the OYSTAR
Hüttlin Company, Schopfheim/Germany.
Dr. John Tillotson is Applications Lead and a Senior Scientist in the R&D department at SPI Pharma.
He has developed multiple orally dispersing tablet and powder technologies and formulations. Dr.
Tillotson received his Ph.D. in Industrial Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati (USA).
Dr. Ehab Hamed is the Director of Product Development at CIMA LABS, USA. In this role, Dr. Hamed
and his team have successfully developed, from ideation to commercialization, numerous new drug
products utilizing multiple drug delivery technologies. He has also spearheaded the implementation
of QbD principles in formulation and commercial process design. He is a pharmacist by training and
holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati, USA.
Dr. Mohamed Abbas Ibrahim is an assistant professor of Pharmaceutics, Kayyali Chair for
Pharmaceutical Industries, King Saud University, KSA. He gained a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical
Technology from the University of Regensburg, Germany, in collaboration with Al-Azhar University.
His research interests include biomaterials such as drug delivery systems and industrial pharmacy
and he has published several international research articles in these areas.
Prof. Dr. Roland Bodmeier is Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the College of Pharmacy
at the Freie Universität Berlin in Germany. Earlier, he served as an Associate Professor at the
College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin, USA. His research focuses on innovative
drug delivery systems with controlled drug release (peroral systems, biodegradable implants/
microparticles, microencapsulation, multiparticulate dosage forms) and has resulted in more than
150 publications, book chapters and patents/-applications.

Prof. Dr. Sandra Klein is Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-
University in Greifswald, Germany. Her research is focussed on developing biorelevant in vitro
models to predict drug bioavailability from oral and vaginal delivery systems and on improving
the bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs. She is co-author of various original manuscripts and
book chapters and has been an invited speaker at international dissolution workshops of AAPS,
APV, CRS, FIP and WHO amongst others.
Engineer Fadhel Belaiba is the regional commercial director at Harro Höfliger, his tasks consist of
understanding the customer requirements and providing them with an individual solution during all
phases, from process development, machine development & building, stability samples to product
launch. He studied Business and Technical Engineering at the University of Cologne.
Dr. Karlheinz Seyfang is Division Leader Pharma Services, Harro Höfliger Verpackungsmaschinen
GmbH, Germany. Ηe is expert Solid Dose production, Galenical development, Powder dosing and
handling and Pulmonary Drug Delivery. He obtained his Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences and
Doctor of Natural Science from the University of Wuerzburg.
Erik Naeser, M. Pharm. Sci., MBA, is a Swedish pharmacist having many years of experience
in the pharmaceutical industry focusing on Quality Assurance. Nowadays Mr. Naeser is based in
Switzerland and works as an global entrepreneur within the health care segment and also acts as a
board member within the International Pharmaceutical Federation's Industrial Pharmacy Section.
Linda Felton, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics and Chair of the Department of
Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Felton
is an editorial board member of Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, the Manufacturing
section editor of the 22nd edition of “Remington: The Science and Practice of Pharmacy”, and the
co-editor of the 3rd edition of “Aqueous Polymeric Coatings for Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms”.

Dr. Kerstin Pauli is the head of a group of project laboratories in Global Drug Development within
Bayer HealthCarePharmaceuticals, Berlin, Germany who is responsible for all aspects regarding the
analytical part of product development. In her previous position, she was specialized in the area of
dissolution testing (including development and validation of dissolution methods, submission of
development projects and handling of post approval changes, life cycle management and patent
protection of market products) and also for automation in dissolution testing (Robot Technology).
Dr. Horst-Dieter Friedel is head of a department in Global Quality Assurance for Pharma Drug
Products and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, Bayer Pharma, Berlin, Germany. He spent 15 years
in the quality control for pharmaceutical drug products under development. He graduated in
pharmacy and chemistry in Marburg, Germany and received his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry.
He is co-chair of the FIP special interest group on Dissolution/Drug Release.
Dr. Nikoletta Fotaki is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at the University of Bath, UK. She graduated
in Pharmacy from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and she holds an
MSc in Toxicology and a PhD in Biopharmaceutics-Pharmacokinetics. Her expertise and research
are focused on drug absorption, biorelevant dissolution methods, in vitro-in vivo correlations and
relations (IVIVC/IVIVR), formulation development, animal models for the prediction of absorption,
biowaivers, in silico models and PBPK. She is a member of several scientific societies and has been
an invited speaker at several conference seminars.

Prof. Dr. Bassem El-Menshawi is Professor of Pharmacognosy and Vice Dean for Postgraduate
& Research Affairs, FUE. He was Vice President for Research, National Research Centre, Egypt, and
Regional Coordinator for Northern Africa for Science & Technology, NEPAD, African Union. He was
Principal Investigator of 7 pharmaceutical and medical research projects awarded by US-AID. He
Supervised 19 Ph.D. and M.Sc. theses and published 67 Research papers.
Prof. Dr. Omar El-Ahmady is director of R&D and Quality; and member of the board of EIPICO,
Egypt. As a professor of Biochemistry and Emeritus dean of college of pharmacy, Al Azhar
University, he founded the tumor markers research center and advised/co-advised more than 100
M.S. and Ph.D. students. He published more than 140 publications and presented more than 200
international presentations to conferences all over the world. He received many awards including
the Egyptian National Award in Biological Sciences.
Dr. Sarah Adel Ibrahim is a senior scientist at Endo/Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, USA. She received
her PhD from University of Cincinnati on transdermal drug delivery. She has significant experience
in transdermal, ocular and ungal drug delivery, iontophoresis, liposomes and nanoemulsions
endorsed by industry experience in product/process development, formulation development,
scale-up/technology transfer and process validation. She has 9 scientific papers and posters, and
three patent filings.
Dr. Rania Salama is a Post Doctorate Fellow in Pharmaceutics at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University
of Sydney. Her research expertise is in inhalation medicine, with a specific interest in controlled
release formulations, in vitro/in vivo methodologies and correlations. To date, Rania has published
20 research articles and conference proceedings, including 6 peer review articles since 2007.

Prof. Dr. Uday Kompella is Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Colorado
Denver. Dr. Kompella’s research interests include development of drug and gene delivery systems
for treating neovascular disorders such as diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration,
corneal angiogenesis, lung cancer, and prostate cancer. He has authored/co-authored over 100
scientific papers and book chapters and co-edited two books. He is an editor for the journal,
“Pharmaceutical Research”. Also, he is an editorial board member for five other journals. Dr.
Kompella was honored with the “AAPS Fellow” status.
Dr. Patrick Crowley was the Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development at GlaxoSmithKline,
USA. During his career, he was involved in the development of 15 commercial products containing
novel chemical entities, fermentation products, semi synthetics and a Biopharmacy material.
Since retiring he is an independent consultant and holds lectureship positions at a number of
institutes and is an Examiner for the MSc Courses.
Prof. Dr. Luigi G. Martini is Professor of Pharmaceutical Innovation at King’s College London and
Director of Rainbow medical engineering. Professor Martini has occupied many roles in Industry
from Senior Director of Preclinical and Pharmaceutical Development for Emerging Markets and
Asia Pacific at GlaxoSmithKline to the development of dosage forms to the design and successful
implementation of technological platforms. Professor Martini has 10 patents and over 35 papers
published in the field of Drug Delivery, Formulation and Innovative technologies.
Dr. Silvia Kocova El-Arini supervises postgraduate students at NRC, Cairo, and at the University of
Tuzla and is advisor to the pharmaceutical industry of Bosnia. She taught at the American University in
Cairo and was affiliated with FDA and University of Basel. She served as UN consultant and held posts
at Bayer and Merck. She is co-author of two book chapters, many publications and presentations.

& Research Excellency Awards from KSU (2009). Dr. Yassin has obtained his Ph.D. degree in

program at the Arabian Gulf University, in Manama. He is an International Expert in Technology
Education & Transfer Strategies in the biomedical field. He is the former CSO of Jeddah-Biocity Inc.
and CEO of Rethab-Biotech Co. He holds five international patents for the development of four
biopharmaceutical products. He authored three books and published several papers in the topic.
Dr. Michael J. Miller is President, Microbiology Consultants, LLC, in Tampa, Florida. Over the past
22 years, he has held numerous R&D,manufacturing, quality and business development leadership
roles at Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly and Company and Bausch & Lomb. He has published more than
100 book chapters, articles and scientific presentations; and has received many awards including the
Parenteral Drug Association Distinguished Service Award. He is adjunct professor at Georgia State
University, and is the Editor of the Encyclopedia of Rapid Microbiological Methods.
Dr. Paul Ruffieux is Vice President and a board member at SKAN AG, Switzerland. He holds a
Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Basel and has an extensive experience
in the Pharmaceutical Industry over 25 years in operations for solid and sterile forms in different
pharmaceutical companies. He is an expert in isolation technology and played a key role in the
design and building of sterile facilities.
Dr. Erich Sturzenegger is global project director, Global PharmOps Strategy at Novartis Pharma,
Switzerland. He held over the past 25 year career at Sandoz and Novartis different leading positions
in Sterile Operations Pharma and Vaccines, in Third Party Operations and Biopharmaceutical
Manufacturing. He is Fellow Swiss Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Honorary member Swiss

Mr. Otto Feil is a project manager at Bausch + Ströbel with approximately 30 years of experience

about 20 years in R&D and QC for pharmaceutical drugs. His experience covers pharmaceutical
development, preclinical development, clinical trials supplies and regulatory affairs. He has
supervised and participated in innovation of two novel drugs for treatment of Schistosomiasis &
Fasciolcasis and HCV. He has published about 100 research papers in national and international
Journals.
Prof. Dr. Saleh Al Suwayeh is Professor and Chairman of Department of Pharmaceutics, College of
Pharmacy, King Saud University, Riyadh, K.S.A. and Chairman of the Saudi FDA technical registration
committee. He also has extensive experience in conducting and evaluating bioequivalence studies.
In addition, he contributed to writing many guidelines for the Saudi FDA including: Bioequivalence
Guidelines, Clinical Studies Guideline, Stability Guidelines and Saudi Drug Law. He has published
many articles in peer-reviewed journals and has represented KSU, Saudi MOH and Saudi FDA at
national and international conferences on science and regulation related topics.
Prof. Dr. Aiman El-Khatib is Professor of Pharmacology at Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University
and the Assistant Egyptian Minister of Health for Pharmaceutical Affairs. Formerly, he held
several positions including Vice Dean for Education and Students Affairs, Community Service and
Environment. His primary research area of interest is investigation of pharmacological actions of
natural products. He published numerous articles in international journals. His awards include
Cairo University Scientific Research Fosterage in field of Theoretical and Applied Biological
Sciences in 2004, Silver and Gold Medal of Merit from Egyptian Syndicate of Pharmacists in 2004
and 2005.

Dr. Medhat Swialam is an international trainer who is developing & delivering programs to
