 Benefits of Solidworks
 Dassault Systèmes, "The 3DEXPERIENCE Company", is a French
multinational software company that develops 3D design, 3D digital
mock-up, and product lifecycle management (PLM) software.

 A subsidiary of the Dassault Group created in 1981 by Avions

Marcel Dassault.

 Headquarter - Vélizy-Villacoublay, France

 CEO - Bernard Charlès

 No. of employees - 13,974

 SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD)

and computer-aided engineering(CAE) computer program that runs

on Microsoft Windows.

 SolidWorks is published by Dassault Systèmes.

 Over two million engineers and designers at more than 165,000

companies were using SolidWorks as of 2013

 Founded in December 1993 by Massachusetts Institute of

Technology graduate Jon Hirschtick

 Its first product SolidWorks 95, in November 1995.

 Latest released SolidWorks 2017 in September 19, 2016

 The SolidWorks model is made up of:
› Parts - 2D design (Sketch) , 3D design
(Features) , Part design consider in the
part design section
› Assemblies - Assembling of two or more
than two parts consider in
this section
› Drawings - Designing with standards is
consider in the drawing
section

are required.
› Fully defined sketch entities are
black (by default).
 Over defined
› Contains conflicting dimensions or
relations, or both.
› Over defined sketch entities are
red (by default).

 An assembly design consists of two or more
components assembled together at their
respective work positions using parametric
relations.
 All components are created as separate part
documents, and then they are placed and
referenced in the assembly as external
components.
Drawing Drawing
 Maximize the productivity of your design and engineering
resources to create products better
 Faster and more cost-effectively
 Built-in intelligence takes the guess work out of 3D design
 Easily manage product data, share designs, automate
workflows, and securely share design data across your
organization, with clients, and with external partners
 Autodesk, Inc. is an American multinational software
corporation that makes software for the architecture,
engineering, construction, manufacturing, media,
and entertainment industries.
 Headquartered in San Rafael, California

 AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design
(CAD) and drafting software application.
 AutoCAD Version 1.0 was first released in December 1982.
 Released in India in 1988.
 AutoCAD is used across a wide range of industries, by
architects, project managers, engineers, graphic designers,
and many other professionals.

 Absolute co-ordinates - Using
this method, you enter the points
as they relate to the origin of the
WCS.
 Relative coordinate - A relative
coordinate is a point specified
with reference to the last point
specified.
 Polar coordinate - Polar
coordinates use a distance and
an angle to locate a point.

 Layers are the primary method for
organizing the objects in a drawing by
function or purpose.
 Layers can reduce the visual
complexity of a drawing and improve
display performance by hiding
information that you don’t need to see
at the moment.
 With layers, you can
› Associate objects by their function
or location
› Display or hide all related objects in
a single operation
› Enforce linetype, color, and other
property standards for each layer
 A block is a collection of objects that are
combined into a single named object.
 Block is an individual drawing file.
 You can create several drawing files, which
are sometimes called block library drawings
 Isometric drawings are not actual 3D drawings,
they are made with 2D geometries but they
appear like 3D.
 Isometric drawing can be made by tilting viewing
angle to 30 degrees for all of its sides in the 2D
plane.
 F5 key is pressed to select isometric plane.
 The three Isoplanes available for selection are
Isoplane top, right and left.
