Non-Shrink Grout
Non-Shrink Grout
SECTION 03610
PART 1. GENERAL
A. The basic and minimum requirements for prepacked non-shrink cementitious grout to
be used applied load (such as to support a structure, a machine, bearing pad, pot bear-
ing, under base plate of gable frame or cantilevered structure for signboard, ends of
prestressed girders).

D. Test reports of the test described in Article 3.04 Sampling and Testing.
A. General Requirements:
1. Unless otherwise shown on the Working drawing, the requirements for different
classes of non-shrink cement grout to be used in the Works shall be as described
in Table 03610 – 1.
2. Select the mix proportions and, unless otherwise specified, the workability in or-
der to satisfy the strength and other requirements of the Contract.
Table 03610 – 1
Classes of Non-shrink Cement Grout
A. Design Mix:
1. Once a design for any class of non-shrink cement grout is determined, it shall not
be varied as to water requirements.
B. Before beginning work on large repetitive works, the Contractor shall arrange for a
site trial of the materials and methods with the suppliers representative being pre-
sent to train the Contractor’s personnel in the Contractor’s personnel in the correct
use of the material.
A. Package shall be supplied in sealed bags, which shall bear the brand, name, manufac-
turer’s name, weight of bag, lot identification number and directions for use.
B. Bag shall be stored in dry weatherproof sheds or other such temporary buildings.
C. Any consignment of package which has become caked, contaminated by damp or oth-
er causes shall not be used in the Works and shall be immediately removed from the
Site.
D. During transport and storage, the package shall be fully protected from all weather
elements.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Non-Shrink Grout shall be non-metallic type and meets ASTM C-1107, Grade A. Gas
producing, metal oxidizing and expansive aggregate grouts shall not be allowed.
B. The flow characteristics shall be such that the volume of the bed of plinth as shown on
the Construction Drawings is completely filled with homogeneous material when
placed within the range of ambient temperature between 5 ْC and 25 ْC.
C. The physical and chemical properties shall be compatible with those of all adjoining
surfaces.
D. Where the grout is required to resist stress before attaining its 28-day strength, the
grout cubes stored under conditions that simulate the field conditions shall be required
for compressive strength test.
E. Calcium chloride or admixture containing chloride salts shall not be used and the total
chloride ion content shall not exceed 0.1% of the mass of non-shrink grout admixture.
F. The total water-extractable sulfate non-shrink grout admixture of the mix expressed as
SO3 shall not exceed 4% of the mass of cement in the mix. The sulfate content shall
be calculated as the total from the various constituents of the mix.
G. Compressive strength test of non-shrink cement grout shall be carried out as specified
in ASTM C1107.
H. Compressive strength: 1-day, 3-day and 28-day compressive strength shall be as speci-
fied in Table 03610 – 1 for all classes of non-shrink cement grout as applicable.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL
A. Mixing
1. The material shall be mixed by mechanical mixer with water, and water content is
15% which is thoroughly by adding appropriate quantity of water as established
by trial.
2. The weight of water to dry grout shall not exceed 0.16. The water content shall be
confirmed during the approval tests, and maintained within a tolerance of ±1% in
mortar placed in the Works.
3. The total mixing time shall be about 2-4 minutes.
3.02 APPLICATION
D. Surfaces to receive the grout shall be clean and free of any type of foreign matter,
grease, paint, oil, dust, or efflorescence. If the concrete surface is defective or has lai-
tence it shall be cut back to a sound base. Bolt holes and fixing pockets shall be blown
clean of dirt or debris. Where applicable, the substrate shall be flushed clean with wa-
ter two hours before placing and maintain wet until grouting commences. Any free
water on the surface of the substrate shall be removed before grouting.
E. Where applicable, the underside of the base plate shall be clean and free from oil,
grease loose rust and loose mill scale at the time of grouting. The non-shrink cement
grout shall be placed in its final position within 25 minutes of commencement of mix-
ing.
F. Where applicable, the non-shrink cement grout shall be poured in one corner of the
plinth. The addition of non-shrink cement grout to the sides of the plinth shall only be
permitted after the grout has flowed completely under the plinth.
G. The formwork shall be firm and tightly jointed so that no leaking of the grout during
grouting.
H. After pouring the non-shrink grout 5-6 hours (final setting), immediately cure the mor-
tar with covering hessian/burlaps on the surface for at least 3 days.
J. Vent holes shall be provided to allow the release of air from isolated sports.
K. Formwork shall be made leak proof by the use of form rubber strip or mastic sealant
between the constructive formwork and joint. Formwork shall extend above the re-
quired pour height and if necessary shall be extended to allow a hydrostatic head to aid
placement.
L. Grout shall be poured from one side and it shall be verified that the grout has flowed
under all of the base plate with no voids. Pouring from several sides shall not be per-
mitted.
A. General
1. Grout temperature shall be maintained as specified in manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Where applicable, the grouted surface shall be covered with burlaps immediately
after the grout had reached the final setting and spread water on it for moisture
curing for at least 7 days. Where used, forms may be removed 3 days after com-
pletion of grouting.
3. Only full packs of non-shrink grout shall be used in the work. On-site proportion-
ing should not be permitted.
4. No internal metal shims shall be allowed to remain in the hardened bedding mor-
tar except as where shown in the construction drawings.
A. There shall be at least one test for every type of test per every 4,000 bags of packaged
dry grout as follows:
