LOCK MANDREL

The Lock Mandrel is a downhole device, run

and retrieved on slickline in which it is placed
and anchored to the Landing Nipple within the
tubing string to provide a setting point for flow-
control equipment such as valves, chokes and
plugs.

The two main types of Lock Mandrel uses

different mean of locating and anchoring; a
Selective Lock locates and anchors any matching
Landing Nipple profile within the tubing; and a
No-Go non-selective Nipple Lock, usually
installed at the bottom of the tubing string. The
No-Go Nipple Lock can also be used in taper
string application.

Applications

• Plugging under pressure.

• Almost unlimited locations for setting and
locking subsurface flow controls.

Features

• Single nipple installation or as the bottom

nipple in a series of ‘KXO’ or ‘KRO’ Landing
Nipple.
• Standard weight tubing in a series of ‘KX’ and
‘KXN’ (bottom) Landing Nipple. (The ‘N’
designates no-go nipple)
• Heavyweight tubing in a series of ‘KR’ and
‘KRN’ (bottom) Landing Nipple. (The ‘N’
designates no-go nipple)
• Retractable Locking Key.
• Locks designed to hold pressure from above
or below or from sudden reversals.
• Extra large ID for higher flow volumes.
• Landing Nipples have the same packing bore
ID for a particular tubing size and weight.

Optional Holddown

• Interference holddown for smaller Locks.

• Shear pin holddown for larger Locks.

Benefits

• Faster slickline service because of the

retractable keys.
• Operator control of locating, landing and
locking in the selected nipple.
• Inside fishing neck provide large ID to
maximize production.
• Optional holddown feature for high flow rates
and safety valve installation.

LANDING NIPPLE

The Landing Nipple is a downhole completion

component, fabricated as a short section of
heavy wall tubular with a machined internal
surface that provides a seal area and a locking
profile. Landing Nipples are included in most
completions at predetermined intervals to
enable the installation of flow-control devices,
such as Plugs and Chokes. Three basic types of

Landing Nipples are commonly used: No-Go

Nipples, Selective-Landing Nipples and ported or
Safety-Valve Nipples.

Applications

• Plugging under pressure.

• Almost unlimited locations for setting
and locking subsurface flow controls.

Features

• Single nipple installations or as the

bottom nipple in a series of ‘KX’ or ‘KR’
Landing Nipple.
• Standard weight tubing in a series of
‘KX’ and ‘KXN’ (bottom) Landing Nipple.
(The ‘N’ designates no-go nipple)
• Heavyweight tubing in a series of ‘KR’
and ‘KRN’ (bottom) Landing Nipple.
(The ‘N’ designates no-go nipple)
• Large bore for minimum restriction.
• Universal nipple with one internal
profile.

Optional Holddown

• Interference holddown for smaller

locks.
• Shear pin holddown for larger locks.

Benefits

• Versatility helps reduce completion and

production maintenance costs.
• Simple Operation.
• Multiple options when running, setting
or retrieving subsurface flow controls.

‘KPX’ / ‘KPR’ PROFILE EQUALIZING PRONG

The ‘KPX'/’KPR’ Equalizing Prong is used in

conjunction with Lock Mandrel to plug the
wellbore in either direction holding pressure
from above or below.

The Equalizing Prong is designed for use where

sediments might collect on the plug. To
equalize, the prong is removed from the plug
housing. This will provides an equalizing path
across the Plug Choke. Two Slickline trips are
required to run or pull the plug.

Applications

• When pressure-differential are

anticipated across a flow control device.
• Used with ‘KX’ & ‘KXN’ Lock Mandrel for
standard-weight tubing and ‘KR’ &
‘KRN’ Lock Mandrel for heavyweight
tubing. (The ‘N’ designates no-go
nipple)
• Suitable for H2S or standard service.

Features

• Balance with seals for either Standard

or H2S Service
• Fluid bypass during running or
retrieving operations
• Extended-length prongs for use in
completions with side pocket mandrels
or when a large amount of sediment is
expected
• Vee-packing seals
• No-Go OD
• Set and retrieved on slickline
• Holds pressure from above or below
• More dependable sealing in extreme
environments

‘KXH’ / ‘KRH’ PROFILE EQUALIZING VALVE

The ‘KXH’ Equalizing Valve feature button-

type valves with a no-go OD that holds pressure
from below only. It is designed to be used with
‘KX’ Lock Mandrel to allow ambient and
pressure-differential safety valves to be
reopened against differential pressure without
being pulled.

The ‘KRH’ Equalizing Valve has a flow bore

compatible with subsurface flow control bore.

Applications

• Used with ‘KX’ & ‘KXN’ Lock Mandrel for

standard-weight tubing and ‘KR’ &
‘KRN’ Lock Mandrel for heavyweight
tubing. (The ‘N’ designates no-go
nipple)
• Suitable for H2S or standard service

Features

• Button valve
• No-Go OD
• Holds pressure from below only

‘KXO’ / ‘KRO’ PROFILE EQUALIZING VALVE

The ‘KXO’/’KRO’ Equalizing Valve is used in

the Lock Mandrel where pressure differentials
are anticipated. It is designed to hold pressure
from above or below and used with the large-
bore ‘KX’ Lock Mandrel for standard-weight
tubing and ‘KR’ Lock Mandrel for heavyweight
tubing.

This Equalizing Valve is run in the open position,

and the running prong shifts the sleeve to the
closed position during the setting procedure. The
pulling prong shifts the sleeve downward to the
open position for equalizing before pulling.

Applications

• When pressure-differential are

anticipated across a flow control device
• Used with ‘KX’ & ‘KXN’ Lock Mandrel for
standard-weight tubing and ‘KR’ &
‘KRN’ Lock Mandrel for heavyweight
tubing. (The ‘N’ designates no-go
nipple)
• Suitable for H2S or Standard Service

Features

• No-Go OD
• Holds pressure from above or below
• Fluid bypass during running or
retrieving operations

PRESSURE OPERATE UNLOAD VALVE (POUV)

The ‘POUV’ Pressure Operate Unload Valve

is used as an in-tubing pressure activated
devise, which when open, allows flow between
the completion tubing and the annular area. It is
designed with an opening sleeve in the Top Sub
with Elastomer Seals. This tool is designed with
full tubing flow ID.

The tool is designed, when open, may be used

to circulate heavy completion fluids out of the
tubing, to acidize formations, to allow pressure
tests to Packers and selectively produce well
zones.

This tool is designed to "open" with

predetermined activation tubing pressure.

SLIDING SLEEVE CIRCULATING DEVICE (SSCD)

The Sliding Sleeve Circulating Device

(SSCD) is a completion device that can be
operated to provide a flow path between the
production conduit and the annulus. Sliding
sleeves incorporate a system of ports that can
be opened or closed by a sliding component that
is generally controlled and operated by slickline
tool string.

This Sliding Sleeve Circulating Device (SSDC)

incorporates a Landing Nipple on top and a
packing bore at the bottom of the assembly. The
top Landing Nipple allows multiple options when
running, setting or retrieving subsurface flow
controls. The bottom packing bore allows
packing off of the Sliding Sleeve Circulating
Device (SSDC) (for installation of Separation
Tools, Straddle Tools, etc).
