Required Data Collection for Study of the existing water pipe lines
system –
• Existing water pipeline layout with material / Dia / Length / Pressure
Rating
• Topographical survey levels
• Location / size / pressure rating of different types of valves viz. Isolation
Valves, Air Valves, Pressure Reducing Valves, Scour Valves, Surge
Protection Valves, any other.
• Problematic area/ types of issues faced during O & M viz. pipe bursting,
leakage from joints, not meeting required pressure at irrigator etc.
• Details of each irrigator such as flow and head requirement at the inlet
Required Data Collection for Study of the existing pumping
arrangement –
• General Arrangement Drawing of the pumping station
• Existing pumping units – Nos. / Arrangement / Working / Standby
• Duty of the pumping unit
• Existing flow control methodology viz. pressure switch / variable
frequency drives etc.
• Working hours
• Pump efficiency curve
• Age of pumping unit
• Pumping unit maintenance schedule
• Water source location
• Type of pump suction head – positive or negative
Water Pipe Line Alignments/ Route –
Topographical Survey
Detail Topographical survey will be carried out from the established control network, all above
grade features and change of ground within the specified area will be surveyed considering but
not limited to the following :-
 Existing Ground levels ( OGL) will be taken @ every 5m Grid unless otherwise any changes in
the natural ground or slopes will be picked and surveyed at 2m Grid and highlighted in the
plan.
 30m corridor will be the ground of interest for the survey corridor (main & sub )
 X-Cross section of the path will be taken @ every 10m interval

Underground Irrigation Network Survey

Detail Underground Utility Detection will be carried out from the established control network
 Radio Detection will be done in a parallel and perpendicular grid .
 Irrigation chambers will be armoured with a a transmitter and the signals will be followed to
trace the under-ground utilities with their relevant depths.
 Pipes will be traced and extended outside the site boundary to record the manholes
upstream/downstream invert level .
 Irrigation network will be surveyed where the interconnectivity is not clear aboveground ,
Underground detection techniques ( RD7000 / GPR 1000 ) will be used to establish and
confirm the direction and depth of the utility
 Irrigation utilities will be detected electronically by using Radio Detector instruments and by
visual inspection of manholes.
 The same shall be reconfirmed at the valve chambers for dia and thickness of pipes
Pipeline Thickness or Class of the pipe

• Hardware – Pipe thickness meter (HT-1200 Digital Ultrasonic Thickness

Gauge Tester Meter)
• At the valve chambers where the pipeline would be visible, the
thickness of pipe shall be verified if available

• Output - Pipes thickness in mm/ inch

• Type of pipe
• Age of pipe
• Roughness coefficient
• Various pipe network components
• Levels of pipe networks
• Water demand at various outlets/ nodes
• Water levels in tank
• Section of tank
• Water pumping unit i.e. pump designed duty, pump curve, max.head,
max. operating capacity head
Data Output -

the maximum and minimum
transient head envelopes along the
Main path.
• Time History: the time-dependent
changes in transient flow, and head
