INTRODUCTION

Tomato (Lycopersicum) is economically one of the most important vegetable

worldwide as it is relatively short duration crop and gives high yield. Tomato belongs to
the Solanaceae family and contribute to a healthy, well balanced diet. They are rich in
minerals, vitamins, amino acids, sugars and dietary fibers. It can also help reduce risk of
heart disease and cancer. Tomato plants also possess bioactive components with
pharmacological and nutritional properties. Tomato leaves is good source of phenolic
compounds, pigments, antioxidants and other nutrients these compounds prevent
oxidative changes in cell by reducing the level of free radicals (Norma et al., 2015).
Aside from being one of the healthiest vegetables, tomato can also be a natural
insecticide. Pesticides produced from natural products have been recently attracting the
attention of many scientists to avoid the problems caused by synthetic compounds.
Tomato plants contain a natural alkaloid [glycoalkaloid] called tomatine sometimes
referred to as lycopersicin which possesses antimicrobial, fungicidal, and insecticidal
properties. These alkaloids are water soluble that can be easily mix and dilutes by/with
water and use as a natural insecticide. Cockroaches have been around millions of years
and can live for a week without food and water or any source or energy. They can also
live headless for a week, can hold breathe from five to seven hours. Killing cockroaches
using slippers, broom or anything that can kill it is very cruel and disgusting. Using the
traditional way of killing cockroach will only spread the bacteria they carry. Also,
chemical control strategy has been the primary method of managing infestation, but this
method has become less effective due to development of insecticide resistant population.
That is why we ended up with this kind of research and product. The overall purpose of
the research problem is to execute Cockroaches that serve one of the reasons why people
experience different illness that can also turn into a disease or even virus. The research
findings will help my classmates, teachers and their home in terms of killing cockroaches
in a cheapest and cleanest way.

This research was conducted because pests have been spreading different kinds of
diseases. Pest like cockroaches carries various kinds of disease such as Salmonella Typhi
which causes Typhoid, virus like Polio virus and Dysentery a disease that causes severe
diarrhea that may include bleeding. Our objective is to help individuals stop and control
the spreading of cockroaches because cockroaches that carry diseases have a huge impact
in poor lives and worst can be cause of death. One of the objectives is to give people idea
of how they can avoid and execute cockroaches without having to spend so much money
to buy expensive, made of chemicals insecticide that can be harmful not just for
cockroaches but also to the family members. The product of this research can be made at
home as it is from tomato leaves that you can found in your yard.

The research will be conducted at Balanga City, Bataan. The mission of this
research is to eradicate cockroaches carrying bacteria and to lower down the cases of
people getting affected from of the said problem while our vision to keep every home and
food clean and safe. The chosen is a serious problem as this may cause people virus and
diseases that can be transmitted human to human.
METHODOLOGY
Materials and Methods

Experimental procedures for the Preparation and Extraction of Tomato leaves and other
procedure was performed in one of the researcher’s house at Bagumbayan, Balanga City
Bataan.

I. Materials

1000ml of distilled water, mortar and pestle, spray bottle and Tomato leaves that
that researchers used were obtained in one of the vegetable garden of Bataan
National High School Senior High School.

II. Preparation of Tomato Extract

Collected tomato leaves were chopped into small pieces and pounded with mortar
and pestle then added 25ml of distilled warm water. After the juice is extracted,
mixed it in the remaining amount of distilled warm water. Strained the tomato
leaves extract with a fine strainer, cheesecloth or coffee filter. Squeezed out every
last drop of the extract and poured it in a proper spray bottle.

III. Preparation of Cockroach trap

Prepared a clean transparent box for the container of the cockroaches. Prepared a
long pieces of duct tape and put a fragrant food in the middle of the tape. Placed
the trap in the areas where you have seen cockroaches. Leave the trap until
morning.
