IRON MAIDEN
FOR MAIDEN KIDS
Through illustraons suitable for children and interesng stories based on Maiden songs, your kids
will get to know, in an interesng and insighul way, the following: Who is the most famous imaginary
person from Transylvania? Who was the Phantom of the Opera? Who was Genghis Khan? Who are the
Nave Americans and why do some people call them Indians? When did the Viking voyages take place?
What is a solar eclipse? What happened to Icarus? What was it like during the me of the dinosaurs?
Why were the pyramids built? Who was Alexander the Great? What happened to Moonchild? How do
submarines work? Why are people afraid of the dark? Will the earth collide with an asteroid? Who were
the Highlanders? Who are the Nomads and where do they travel? What is an atomic bomb and why is
it dangerous? When did we start to explore outer space? And much, much more...
Of course, everything in this book is described in a way that is easy for children to comprehend, and can
serve as an extra educaon which will encourage your children to explore various topics, read books and
encyclopedias outside of school.
The illustraons in this book are drawings done in a picture book/encyclopedic style, and they were
drawn by hand by the excellent Croaan arst Luka Valković.
I discovered Iron Maiden at the age of seven, during the most fruiul era of the band – the early eighes.
As English was not my mother tongue, the thing that first drew me to the band was the clever and
imaginave illustraons of Eddie, their mascot. My childish curiosity pushed me to find out what kind
of music lay behind those album covers. When I first heard songs such as Number of the Beast, Sll Life,
Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Alexander the Great, my imaginaon told me that the spoken word parts
in those songs were narrated by Eddie himself. Later on, in elementary school, I started to recognize
historical and mythological characters such as pharaohs, Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Icarus, and
so on. As I was growing up, I started reading and exploring stories about the Phantom of the Opera, killer
orangutan from E.A. Poe’s short story, the planet Dune, the Ancient Mariner from Coleridge’s poem,
etc. As a teenager, I experienced the horrors of war and the loss of life that was going on in Croaa and
Bosnia, but my love of Maiden kept growing stronger. In the mid-ninees I was out of my teen years,
ready to finally comprehend all songs that I had considered to be unclear or which were trying to convey
more complex noons. Today I can say that Maiden songs opened many new horizons, made me read a
lot of books, explore many historical facts and look at the world with a different set of eyes.
I would now like to share that wonderful experience with new generaons, as it has been more than thirty
years since I have first encountered Iron Maiden, a band sll going strong today, as creave as ever. I am
lucky to have been born on me to be able to tesfy to all of this and even write a book about it.
