Welcome and Enjoy!: II International Symposium Mycorrhizal Symbiosis in South America
Dear all,
We are so glad and honored to welcome you next week in our hometown, Bariloche. We are anxious to finally meet
you and have you all in this wonderful city! We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we everyday enjoy the incredible
natural scenery offered by the surroundings and the kindness of local people. Information about arrival and logistic is
available in the web page. However, we would like to remind you some arrival information that we consider useful:
ARRIVAL
If you arrive by plane, you have the option of taking a taxi at the airport to the hotel, which may be the expensive
option (~700 AR$). Taxis are white and blue and are usually available at the exit of the airport. We suggest you to have
local currency available as exchange may not be obtainable at the airport. There is a currency exchange downtown,
please find details on the list below. Other option for leaving the airport is local bus 72, although you need a local card
called SUBE which is not sold nor charged at the airport but downtown. 72 bus timetable is available at
www.mibus.com.ar. Car rental is also available at the airport. The fourth option is a van transfer for which you should
ask as soon as you leave the baggage claim section, this would be a cheaper option compared to taxis but the last stop
is downtown from where you should take a taxi or bus to the hotel. If you arrive by bus, the bus terminal is a few
kilometers away from downtown. Several lines go downtown from the bus terminal (e.g. 20, 21, 10 – mibus.com.ar).
THE CITY
Bariloche is quite a big town surrounded by mountains and lakes. Downtown you’ll be able to enjoy local food (don’t
forget to taste the famous Patagonian lamb and the world famous asado), chocolates and ice cream (several places to
visit and enjoy), local brewing (many good options to choose), together with museums, historical attractions, and
cultural activities. Outside the city center you’ll find tones of ideal places for hiking, climbing, and trekking together
with the possibility of doing water sports such as rafting, kayak, and kitesurf. A city immersed in a National Protected
Area will for sure offer you quieter activities also: just relax staring at the sunset, drink mate at a lake’s beach or even
enjoy a horse ride to contemplate astonishing views of the Andes. More information about the city and surroundings
is available at: ttps://www.barilocheturismo.gob.ar/en/home
THE WEATHER
Patagonia is cold, that’s a fact. However, March is a great month in terms of weather. Mean max temperature for the
month is 20°C and min is 8°C. Do not forget to bring some water proof clothes also as scattered rain usually starts
increasing during March. Also during March most local tourists are leaving the city back to their hometowns and snow
season is still a few months ahead (Bariloche is famous for having one of the biggest ski centers in South America), so
you’ll be able to enjoy a less crowded city!
The Symposium will take place at the main event room of the Villa Huinid Hotel. The hotel has two entrances: Pioneros
Avenue (2694 Pioneros Av.) and Bustillo avenue (2600 Bustillo Av.), there is a road inside the hotel park that connects
both entrances. Please inform that you are a Symposium’s assistant at the reception desk. The hotel is 3 km away from
downtown and it has a very complete restaurant with many meal options. Apart from this restaurant, the nearest
place to have lunch is downtown. If you’re inscribed as a student (grad or undergrad) remember that you can still
apply for your meal benefit for the three days of the meeting! According to the final program, registration on
Wednesday 6th opens at 8.15am. The open ceremony is at 8.45am. Also remember to complete the registration for the
fabulous final dinner at the mountain. See you there!!

Local Currency: Due to the economic situation, Argentinean pesos change their value compared to US dollars every
day (even multiple times during the same day). This month the average official conversion has been 1USD = 39 $AR,
but at currency exchange places the rate would be less favorable. We suggest going to an official currency exchange.
