14. Leaders Training Camp – MGOCSM TORCH BEARERS
It has always been a prime focus of MGOCSM to help evolve spiritually committed lay leadership
in the Malankara Orthodox Church. There are several glorious examples of lay leaders of our Church
whose formative years in life were groomed and nourished by the MGOCSM. This has been true in the
case of the Church diaspora also, where youngsters have been enabled to root themselves firmly in the
faith of the Church.
The MGOCSM organized a special programme on 9th to 11th December 2016 at Mar Baselious
Dayara, Njalikuzhy, Kottayam to help them discover their innate leadership skills, nurture these and
channelize them for the overall growth and wellbeing of the Church and society.
Our special thanks to the Mar Baselious Dayara Superior Rev. Fr. George Philip and inmates of
the Dayara for providing all the assistance and support for the programme.

b. St.Pauls Orthodox Christian Students Centre, Bangalore (Under St. Paul’s Orthodox
Christian Society, Bangalore)
St.Paul’s Orthodox Christian Society, Bangalore, came under the control of MGOCSM from 16th
March 1998. The Society owns a small Chapel in a 1575 sq.ft plot of land very close to the Cantonment
Railway Station, Bangalore.
It was a Parish (St.Pau’ls Orthodox Church) under the Diocese of Madras. Due to the financial
liability the parish was closed for a long time. MGOCSM Senior Friends and Rev. Fr. Sabu Kuriakose
(H G Zacharias Mar Aprem, then a Student of UTC) took the help of the then General Secretary Fr.John
Thomas to settle the Rs.1.5 lakhs liability and took over the property during 1998. The members of the
Society resigned and the President, Secretary of MGOCSM of India and the Senior friends from Bangalore
replaced the members of the society. Though an independent society, it is under the control of the MGOCSM
of India. One of the conditions of taking over the parish was that there shall be Holy Qurbana every week.
The church was renamed as St.Pauls Orthodox Christian Students’ centre, Bangalore. It is a meeting
place of MGOCSM Senior friends and students, Bangalore.
During 2006 the chapel was renovated using the funds generated out of a Musical night organised
by the Senior friends. Initially there was regular Holy Qurbana by MGOCSM Student Chaplains and later
on frequency was reduced to once a month. There has been no Holy Qurbana for the last four years.
There is scope for constructing a hostel building on top of the chapel and to develop it as a student centre.
The premises is located in the heart of the city and is a very valuable asset of the MGOCSM.
