01 Chapter 01 Almona PE Pipes SYSTEM

About US Established in 2008, Almona is a leading pipe manufacturing company in

Saudi Arabia. Certified to ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems.

Almona is the first choice for customers across Saudi Arabia, with a product
range from 20mm to 125mm pipes and its accessories. The pipes comply
with the Saudi (SASO) and German (DIN) Standard.

Our success is the result of the company’s persistent commitment to con-

tinuous innovation and technology, with a relentless pursuit to provide
quality products and services.

Introduction Almona PE pipe System is made from Polyethylene (PE), specially devel-
oped for the use and construction of pressure pipe systems in the applica-
tions field of drinking water and natural gas, pressure sewerage, relining,
ducting systems, sea outfall and industrial, with outstanding reliability over
time.

The Raw Material Almona PE pipe system is made from PE, Polyethylene risen approved for
the production of pipes according to SASO 1402 standards (METHODS OF
TESTING POLYETHYLENE PIPES FOR GENERAL PURPOSES).

The raw material is supplied in granules.

Before processing, the granule is submitted to specific tests in our

laboratories to verify its suitability for use (ISO/R 1133 procedure 18.
Melt index MFI 190/5).

(PE) is a thermoplastic resin which is transformed into the finished

product by a rise in temperature, which plasticizes the material, al-
lowing the pipe to be produced by means of extrusion. These pro-
cesses are carried out inside our factory, under the control of skilled,
qualified staff. The dimensions of the pipes and fittings, with the rela-
tive processing tolerances, are established in accordance with DIN
8074 (Polyethylene (PE) - Pipes PE 63, PE 80, PE 100, PE-HD - Dimen-
sions).

Polyethylene in Pipe Polyethylene has been the first choice mate-

Applications rial for pipe distribution systems for over 35
years in many countries.

In 2001 alone, 76% of small diameter water

pipes in Europe were made from polyethyl-
ene.

In larger diameters 47% were polyethylene.

Today, some 3.4 million tons of polyolefin’s

Polyethylene and Polypropylene are dedi-
cated to pipe grade production globally.

01 Chapter 01 Almona PE Pipes SYSTEM

The Benefits of Polyethylene has become the most popular material for pipe systems as it
offers significant benefits compared to alternative materials, namely:
Polyethylene
- Low Maintenance
- Low Cost of Installation
- Long Lifetime
- High Safety Record
- Easily Processed and Recycled

Low Maintenance - PE pipes retain their strength and functionality with minimum maintenance - they are
easily wieldable into long sections, exhibit slow crack growth resistance along with resistance to rapid crack
propagation and a long lifetime in both static and dynamic loads.

Lower Cost of Installation - PE Pipes are flexible, light weight and tough, enabling easier site handling and
installation along with easier coiling into long lengths for easier handling and storage.

Long Lifetime - PE pipes can be certified to last at least 50

years and to withstand harsh terrains and climates with no
corrosion. They exhibit excellent chemical resistance, abra-
sion resistance and good resistance to weather ability and UV
along with resistance to micro organism and rodent attack.

High Safety Record and No Leakage – Weld ability brings leak

free joints over long distances, and the ability to withstand
high axial and bending loads without joint failure. Chemical
inertness ensures no contamination of water through taste
and odor.

Failure statistics from earthquake pe-

riods clearly indicate the superiority
of polyethylene pipe systems over
alternative materials under severe
ground movement.

In the UK, Anglia Water a major utility company, adopted pol-

yethylene as a standard material for water mains and service
pipes. Failure statistics show the competitiveness of PE ver-
sus, other materials.

Easily Processed and Recyclable – Polyethylene as a thermoplastic is easily converted into various pipe and
fitting dimensions and can be recycled into less critical applications at the end of its lifetime.

PE pipe grade High quality PE compounds suitable for water and gas pipe manufacture are
produced by combining all the necessary additives with the polymer powder
classification
in a very controlled manner. The additives protect the polymer from degra-
dation during pipe manufacture and during its service lifetime.

PE materials are classified in terms of their 50 year design strength (Minimum

Retained Strength - MRS), which is extrapolated from pressure test data as
illustrated below for PE63, PE80 and PE100:

The Polyethylene materials used in drinking water and gas pipe production
are PE80 and PE100 materials, and must meet the 50 years MRS defined in the
table:

Classification
MRS value 50 year Design Strength
to ISO 12162

PE63 6.3 Above 6.3 MPa - less than 7.99 MPa

PE80 8.0 Above 8 MPa - less than 9.99 MPa
PE100 10.0 Above 10 MPa

Gas Pipes Chapter 03 03

Polyethylene Gas The need for PE pipes is increasing throughout the whole world. There
Pipes small weight allows easy handling, and simple, swift and reliable assem-
bling. They are flexible and can be delivered in the rollers of 200m. They are
extremely resistant to chemical, there for they can be easily placed into the
aggressive ground. They have a very high impact resistance even at very
low temperatures, especially if made of network like polyethylene.
These pipes do not corrode and with a life time of more than 50 years.

.The pipes are entirely in accordance with ISO 4437 (DIN 8074) standards

Technology The pipes are entirely in accordance with ISO 4437 (DIN 8074) standards.
Almona PE pipe System uses materials made by the world known
companies, which have been checked and approved by its own
laboratory. The production itself is being monitored and controlled by the
contemporary scanners. At the same time Almona PE pipe System controls
the quality of its products in its own fully equated laboratory.
