1. a) Derive an expression for branch admittance matrix using singular transformation. 8

b) The positive sequence reactances for the network are shown in figure Q.1 (b). Indicate the
elements A - B and D - F as links and form :
i) Bus incidence matrix. 2
ii) Branch path incidence matrix. 2
iii) Basic cut set incidence matrix. 2
iv) Basic loop incidence matrix. 2
v) Bus admittance matrix YBUS using Singular Transformation. 4

2. a) Obtain ZBUS using singular transformation for power system in fig. Q. 2(a). The values 14
indicated in figure are self reactance's in p.u.

3. a) Derive the equation useful for the formation of ZBUS when added element is a link, start 10
from performance equation of a partial network.

b) The power system represented by single line diagram is shown below obtain :
i) YBUS by direct inspection 3

4. Positive sequence reactance of different elements are shown in fig. 4 obtain Z bus by 20
algorithm Use Nodel as reference node.

5. a) Prove that performance equation of 3 - phase stationary element in admittance form when 10
excitation is balanced. Can be represented on single phase basis.

b) How three phase network component is represented in impedance and admittance form? 10
Write down performance equations in both forms.

6. For the power system shown in fig. 6. If L - G fault takes place at Bus 3. Determine 20
a) Total fault current.
b) Voltage of each bus during fault.
c) Current through phase 'C' of transformer element. Assume prefault bus voltages are
1 pu.

7. a) Explain the significance of load flow studies. Give classification of buses for load flow 5
studies.

b) Derive the equation used to calculate real & reactive bus powers for load flow solution by 8
using Newton Raphson Method with YBUS .

c) Compare the performance of Gauss Siedel and Newton Raphson methods for load flow 7
solution.

8. A 25 MVA, 50 Hz synchronous generator circuit delivers 20 MW over a double circuit line 20


to an infinite bus. The generator bus kinetic energy is 2.52MJ / MVA at rated speed. The
generator transient reactance is Xd  0.35pu . Each transmission circuit reactance is 0.2 pu
on 25 MVA base. Initially the generator bus voltage was 1.1 pu & infinite bus voltage is 1.0
pu. A 3 phase short circuit occurs at the midpoint of one of the transmission lines at t  0
and it is cleared in 0.05 sec. Find the swing of rotor upto 0.15. Take time step of 0.05 sec.
Use modified Euler's method.
