I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

A. CONTENT STANDARD: The learner understands the principles and uses of a position
paper.
III. PROCEDURE:
1. Pre-Activity
A. Prayer

C. Checking of Attendance
D. Classroom Management
The students are will be asked to arrange the chairs properly and observe silence in the
class.
E. Review
The teacher will ask about their understanding about the past lesson “concept paper”.
- What is a concept paper?
- What is the purpose of concept paper?
F. Presentation of the Lesson
1. Activity
The teacher will flash a picture showing about “Death Penalty” to the students and they
will be asked to give their ideas or position either to agree or disagree?
2. Analysis
- What is persuasion?
- Is the art of persuasion is important to us? Why or why not?
- What do you think is the impact of giving your insight about this issue?
- How you persuade others about your positions on the topic?
3. Abstraction
Position paper is an essay which describe a position on an issue and the rationale for
that position. The position paper is based on facts that provide a solid foundation of your
argument.

How to Make Position Paper
1.Consideryouraudience
Start with a topic sentence or two that attracts attention and summarizes the issue.
Inform the reader of your point of view. Focus on three main points to develop. Each topic
is developed with a general statement of the position, an elaboration that references
documents and source data, past experiences and authoritative testimony conclusion
restating the position.
2. Establish flow from paragraph to paragraph
Keep your voice active
Quote sources to establish authority
Stay focused on your point of view throughout the essay
Focus on logical arguments
Don't lapse into summary in the development--wait for the conclusion.
3. Summarize, then conclude, your argument. Refer to the first paragraph/opening
statements as well as the main points does the conclusion restate the main ideas? reflect
the succession and importance of the arguments logically conclude their development?
4. Application
The class will be divided into four groups. Each group will be assigned to pick a
topic that has written in a rolled paper inside a bowl. Each member of the group will
collaborate to write all their ideas and opinions. (15mins)

2. The Legalization of Same Sex Marriage in the Philippines
IV. Evaluation
The students will answer the following questions:
1. Define what is a position paper. (5 pts)
2. Identify 3 situations in which a position paper may be effectively used in our present
society. (5 pts.)
V. Assignment
Read the selections: “The Other Side of Email” and Who Talk Too Much, Men or
Women?” Learner’s Manual pp. 130-138.
