What do you want to accomplish while living in Japan?

Japan, not so long ago when I started hearing things about this nation. Not so long ago, when I
first talked to a Japanese person. Not so long ago that I set foot in its ground and witnessed its
beauty. And not so long ago, that I found myself dreaming of what life can be if I were to live in
that country.

I could only read and hear about Japan from our history books and our teachers back then. The
tales of war and struggles under its tyranny. Yet, nothing was taken seriously. I always think, we
can never be what we are now if not of what we were before. Years later, things had taken a turn.
My fascination to Japan in general has grown so much. My curiosity has gone beyond more than
knowing the country. I have to be there. I have to experience and immerse myself in the culture
that have lured me into longing of unraveling its mystical and true charm.

It is not an opportunity that knocked but rather a dream to be chased after. I am driven by this
belief to excel in what I am good at - teaching. When I decided to pursue this endeavor, I knew
that I must be competent enough to make it. It is my great aspiration to be recognized as a teacher,
as a Filipino who can make a difference in a globally competitive country. The life that Japan may
offer will allow me to get closer to the things that I have yet to learn.

I admire the respect that Japanese people put in to perfect their work. The art that I want to master
for me to be able to apply it to my own craft. I love its unique historical thread and how visible it
is in people’s everyday life. As a foreigner, astonished by all of it, has the desire to grasp and
understand how I can relate it to my life. Japanese people have amazed me in so many ways. A
mere conversation with them could open one’s eyes into seeing their strong will, optimism, passion,
and unshakable faith in their truths which made me realize the things I am lacking as a person.
Possessing these qualities could make a better version of me; hence, I aim for it. Most importantly,
my eagerness to contribute something and succeed in helping my students is something that I must
fulfill in my future journey in Japan.

Working as an ESL teacher for almost nine years has given me enough experience in dealing with
diverse types of learners. I have handled learners that vary in age, nationality, gender, culture and
personality. As a professional, I envision working in Japan as a combat for learning new things
while applying the learned ones. No task comes easy. However, tough duty creates the best
employees. This is much different from the nature of work I have gotten used to, but my
undertakings motivate me to take on this challenge.

People say, “The only thing constant is change”. For this reason, humans seek for the things they
lack or so may say the things they do not have. You would never know you could climb higher if
you would not take a step. One must learn how to take risks to enhance further their given skills
and capabilities. Never we should settle for less, if we could have the best. I aspire to reach the
fullest growth I could possibly obtain in fulfilling the job. Growth, which I wouldn’t attain, if I
would not embrace the change, I am courageously ready for.
