    Sinulog Festival

    Sinulog Festival is a celebration in Cebu during the feast of Sto. Nino. It is celebrated every
    third Sunday of January. It is a special celebration for Cebuano’s because this is the where Cebu
    was known. During Sinulog Festival you can see how Cebuano’s are so busy in preparing things
    and food for their visitors. Thru preparation of foods and decorations, the Cebuano’s give thanks
    to Senor Sto. Nino thru this way. This is one of the tradition of Filipino’s that everyone must try
    to experience, the spirit of joy, gladness, and religiosity of Cebuano’s when Christianity came in
    the Philippines thru Sto. Nino de Cebu.
    Every Cebuano’s are known for their religiosity in devoting to Sto. Nino. When I went to
    Cebu, I witnessed how people are so devoted when after the bishop’s mass they all dance while
    praying for their intentions. Some are raising their hand while waving to the image, it means,
    welcoming the baby Jesus in their life and recognizing him as their guide in life. Some are dancing
    as their devotion of giving thanks to Sto. Nino or for their intentions. In many forms, Cebuano’s
    are devoting themselves to Sto. Nino because for them He is the giver of everything.
    One thing that I experienced in common with the Cebuano’s are their hospitality with every
    people, inviting everyone to eat. We all know that being hospitable is commonly known
    characteristic of every Filipino. When I was there, I am introduced to my foster family, I don’t
    know them totally but they welcomed me and accommodated me. They also tried their best to
    speak in tagalog because visayan speaking people are not that good in tagalog but very fluent in
    speaking in English. They always communicate with me in tagalog because I do not know how to
    speak in visaya and for me that is a part of being hospitable to me.
    Why am I saying that sinulog festival is a good experience? Because it was an unforgettable
    experience for me. What I felt when I was there is the spirit of peoples excitement and happiness
    to celebrate the feast of Sto. Nino. The experience of celebrating the feast of Sto. Nino is also a
    unique thing to Filipino. It is only the Philippines where Sto. Nino is recognized which is his feast
    has been part of every Filipinos culture. Sinulog Festival is one of the best feast of culture here in
    the Philippines where you will return because of the people and the culture. While celebrating and
    dancing what I felt was the spirit of holiness and religiosity of every people entrusting their whole
    life under the protection of Senor.
    The feast of Sto. Nino de Cebu or Sinulog Festival is a pride of every Filipino. The Sto.
    Nino de Cebu is the symbols and representation of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines.
    Sto. Nino de Cebu is the image brought by Missionary Spaniards here in the Philippines as a gift
    to our tribal brothers and sisters to embrace the Christianity. Sto. Nino was a significant
    representation for every Filipino Catholics for Christianity in the Philippines. Sinulog festival is
    not only a culture but a celebration of the root of Christianity in the Philippines.
