    ABOUT OFA

    Ordnance Factory Ambarnath (OFA) is one of the glittering stars


    among the galaxy of Ordnance Factories, operating under Ordnance
    Factory Board, Ministry of Defense, Govt. of India. OFA was set up with
    core competence in the field of Non-Ferrous Metallurgical production
    and later on High Strength Aluminum Alloy Extruded products were
    added.

    The Factory was established during the World War II period.


    Construction commenced during 1942 and Production during 1944.

    OFA is a non-ferrous metallurgical Factory under Materials &


    Component (M&C) Division. Primarily OFA is engaged in
    manufacturing of cartridge cases, small arms ammunition cups, strips
    and aluminum alloy extruded products for sister factories. These
    products from sister factories are being supplied to our esteemed
    customer Indian Army, Navy & Air force. OFA is also manufacturing
    Brass-ingots (from recycled scrap
    ) and strips for sale to Indian private indenters.

    3. OFA PRODUCTION FACILITIES

    COPPER BASE ALLOYS

    1.1 MELTING
     Channel type induction furnaces.
     Conventional turn table casting.
     Horizontal continuous casting facility with off-line
    milling and coiling of strips.
     Direct reading spectrograph for close control of
    chemistry of heats.

    1.2 ROLLING
     4-hi reversible Rolling Mill.
     Flattening & milling stands in tandem for rolling of
    strips with close control of thickness.
     Continuous Annealing and pickling line.
     Electric Annealing Furnaces with close control of
    temperature.
     Pickling line for controlling the surface quality.

    1.3 DEEP DRAWING


     Blanking presses for production of circular blanks.
     Double action presses for manufacturing of various
    shapes.
     Hydraulic Heading and Indenting Presses.
     Tapering presses.
     Pickling & Washing line.
     Electric Annealing furnaces.

    ALUMINIUM BASE ALLOYS

    2.1 MELTING
     Reverberatory furnace with semi-continuous casting
    facility for casting billets for extrusion.
     Ultrasonic testing machine for ensuring the soundness
    of the billet.

    2.2 EXTRUSION
     Direct and indirect Extrusion press of 2500 ton
    capacity with piercer for extrusion of tubes and rods.
     Continuous billet preheating furnace, electrically
    heated with close temperature control.

    2.3 HEAT TREATMENT


     Solution treatment furnaces both horizontal and
    vertical.
     Straightening machine for ensuring straightness of the
    bars and rods.
     Ageing furnaces.

    3 INSPECTIONS AND METALLURGICAL TESTING


     Direct reading spectrograph.
     Chemical laboratory.
     Universal tensile testing machines.
