STEAM BLOWING

PLANT DETAILS

Plant Details

4 X 360 MW Coal based Power Plant at Uchipinda , Raigarh

172 bar 540 deg C

1) First Unit steam Blowing-Huff & Puff Method(Pressure built up method)

2) Second Unit steam Blowing-Huff & Puff Method (Pressure built up method)
3) Third Unit steam Blowing-Sliding Pressure without pressure accumulation
4) Fourth Unit steam Blowing-Sliding Pressure without pressure accumulation

LDO Consumption
1) First Unit- 1700 kl (approx)
2) Second Unit-1880 kl (approx)
3) Third Unit- 800 kl (approx)
4) Fourth Unit- In progress

2
EFFECT OF BLOWING DEPENDS ON
1) Thermal shock
2) Removal force of steam
3) Cleaning force of steam

3
CLEANING FORCE RATIO (CFR)

Blowing Mass Flow ,

Q flow= √1.25 * Qmcr √(Vmcr /Vblow)

Qmc= mass flow at MCR

Vmc= velocity at MCR
Vblow=blowing velocity

a) K=Velocity of steam during blowing / Velocity of steam at MCR

b) K= (Steam flow during blowing)2 *(Sp.vol of steam at blowing

(Steam flow at MCR)² * ( Sp.vol of steam at MCR)
Steam flow can be measured by the net feed water flow
CFR & velocities of the steam should be verified to avoid “Over Blowing”
The recommended value K > 1.25 ( between 1.25 and 1.4)

4
Huff & Puff Method

To give a thermal shock to the contour being purged, to dislodge the scale
etc.
Procedure: Raise the boiler pressure to a pre-determined value (40-60
kg/cm2), shut off firing and at the same time open the quick opening
valve(EOTV), thus allowing the steam to escape to atm. with high velocity
carrying with it the loose debris.

7
Sliding Pressure Method
Boiler is in by-pass operation at
about 20 to 40 % Load.
• The cleaning effect is achieved by sliding pressure against atmosphere,
resulting in low pressure and high Steam velocities.

sacrificial valve is required & operating valves is not required.

Steam Blowing time is incalculable Steam Blowing can be completed in 07-

10 days

Steam Pressure requirement is 40 bar. Steam Pressure- is 10-15 bar. Medium
