Dear Mr. Weberman:

Reference is made to the letter to you from Associate

Attorney General John H. Shenefield, United States Department
of Justice, dated August 13 , 1980, pertaining to your
administrative appeal (No. 80-1207) from the action of the
FBI on your r equest for access to records pertaining to
James Marshall Hendrix, also known as Jimi Hendrix.

Referenced letter advised that classified material

was to be referred to the Department of Justice Review Committee
(DJRC) for review and determination whether it warrants continued
classification under Ex ecutive Order 12065.

Prior to presentation to the DJRC, the FBI declassified

certain portions of the enclosed documents which were previously
furnished to you as an enclosure to our letter dated June 5,
1980. Certain portions of the enclosed pages continue to
be exempt pursuant to Title 5, United States Code, Section
552, subsections (b)(l) and (b)(7)(C). An explanation of
exemptions is enclosed.

The remaining classified material was presented

to the DJRC on December 11, 1981, at which time classification
was upheld.
