Ashwini Mudra is a yogic technique that directs the prana (Life Energy)
upward along the spine by contracting the anal sphincter. The meaning
of Ashwa means Horse and Mudra means a gesture where it is just a
superficial definition, the deeper meaning of mudra is about recycling
the energy. For easy understanding, this mudra can also be called as
Horse
Gesture.

Features of a Horse
They say the horse is a unique animal. Let us look at some horse facts that may sound
surprising to most of us.

Horses don’t vomit

Horses can never vomit because their digestive system is a one-way street. Their
digestive system is a one-directional system and opposes gravity and their rectum does
not face downwards towards gravity. Therefore, the horse never faces anal leakage
issues. Not bad, huh?

Horses support Veganism!

1/6
A lot of us have seen a lot of Vegan bodybuilders lately. Many of us might have wondered
how they gained well-built muscles by just eating a diet comprising just plant-based
products. But nature had introduced a well-built, strong creature that ate only plants and
vegetables long ago. The horse is one of the best examples for it. They are grass-eating
herbivores who are sturdy and strong by nature. Horses are so strong that any animal
(or human!) that messes with it would receive a painful back kick.

Faster than Usain Bolt

Ever heard of the word “Horsepower”? It is a technical word used in the automobile
industry where speed is a concern. For ages, the horse is one of the fastest animals
known to mankind. It reaches an incredible speed in just a matter of seconds. This gift
has been helpful to the horse in escaping its predators and other dangers. Horses are
some animals that cannot be hunted down easily because of their speed.

The All-Seeing Eye

Not only is
the horse’s
visibility

commendable, but the eye itself is something worthy of appreciation. A horse has large
eyes and has clear eyesight. Out of a 360° angle, the horse has a viewing angle of 350°
and has a wide range of vision. A horse has a long vision and can zoom in to a scene in
front of it.

Horses are ever-vigilant

A horse has keen instincts. They can react without thinking. This characteristic is because
of their internal instinct. It developed this ability to save itself from predators and other
dangers. They react instinctively and try to get away from their predator as soon as

possible. The horses have much higher sensitivity, awareness about surrounding,
mindfulness and consciousness about the entire body compared to other animals as
well as human beings. For example, we realize that a mosquito has landed on us only
after it has bitten us. But a horse realizes that a mosquito when it is approaching it. That
is how alert a horse is.

They are a lucky charm!

The horses symbolise freedom without restraint. The horse represents travel,
movement, and desire. It also symbolises power in certain communities. Many cultures
in the world consider the horse to be an auspicious animal. It has brought victory to
many Kings and won Kingdoms with their fast-mobility.

They are expensive!

Horses are priced high and maintaining a horse is expensive too. The feed that is given
to the horse, specialized veterinary checks and paperwork related to horses cost higher
than maintaining any other animal. Many performance horses that take part in races
have a high maintenance cost. Horses eat a lot to sustain their fast metabolism.

Horses sleep while they stand

Yes, you heard that right. The horse sleeps while it’s standing. But it does not mean it
never sleeps lying down. It lies down when it wants to take a short nap. An adult horse
sleeps every 3 hours in a 24-hour period. A sleeping horse balances its weight by carrying
its weight on both the forelegs and one rear leg.
