INTRODUCTION

Executive Summary
The internship started from the first 1st of May and we were introduced to the studio's
working setting at the very start. We have been briefed on what to do in the days ahead and
have been taught about the practical use of the equipments. The ASCO Studio at Amity
University is a well-equipped, multi-functional studio that gave us the chance not only to
learn film-making and photography, editing, but also to improve our craft with top-of - the-
line amenities and faculties. The project that made our way in the beginning was of Amity
Finishing School and we were given the responsibility of making their corporate video
which would showcase the courses offered and the activities performed in their curriculum.
We then held a meeting where we discussed what roles were to be assigned and to whom,
how we are going to shoot the entire video. The next day we had a creative discussion with
the faculties and the officials of the AFS and finalized what was to be done. Then we
progressed upon the next few days with shooting the interviews of the faculty of AFS and
several institute heads, photographs of the faculty were also taken for documentation.
In the latter stages me and the team worked on shooting the activities of AFS that are Yoga,
Fine Dining ,Ballroom Dancing ,Cooking and Social Etiquette to showcase how well these
activities take place, these were done under the guidance of industry specialists and qualified
instructors of their respective fields. Furthermore we learnt on how to shoot videos under
these unique set-ups
Shooting videos for Amity finishing school was a good experience and it took us a good
amount of time to finish it. Then we sat on the edit bay and started editing the AFS corporate
video, Multiple attempts at finalising the output were made during editing to meet the
satisfaction of their faculties and then it finally got approved by the AFS department. During
editing we also learnt a lot about the emphasis of 2 dimensional graphics in portraying
something that is easily understood to the audience. IN this Particular case we leaned on
graphics to showcase the courses offered at AFS
Then came the informative video for Amity University's Nanotechnology Department to
showcase the devices used to offer students the greatest experience and learn with the finest
facilities. for e.g 3d printer, Photon Plasmons ,Optoelectronics and microelectronics. The next
work experience was at the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau which went up as a show reel.
The project aimed to highlight WCCB's operations and steps to protect wildlife in India
through numerous movies on Tiger Skin, Rhino Horns, Elephant Tusks, Bear Fur and many
more endangered animals. A part of our team went to Dehradun to shoot videos and bytes for
this particular project.
The client (organisation) representatives had evaluated the film and proposed inputs based on
their vision and viewpoint, as well as providing us with data on government constraints and
minor details that required rectification.
Creating a corporate film for Amity Summer School was our next project and our Head of
Institution told us that we have a creative liberty as they wanted the video to be an unique
project that has never been created before. The aim of the project was to portray the life and
exposure that students get at Amity Summer school and about the activities that takes place to
enhance them as an individual. Amity Summer School helps students choose wisely on the
future career path (Rather Than Regretting Later For Choice Of Career Path In Graduation)
Students get to live university life even before getting into one for two full weeks and get
taught by industry level experts and side by side get to do activities like swim in an Olympic
Size Swimming Pool, do Horse Riding, play Squash and indulge in other sports like Tennis
Basketball Shooting, Etc. We had the task to showcase this as creatively as possible.

The next project that made our way was for Amity Institute of Advanced Research and
Studies (M&D) and we were given the responsibility of creating an educational video which
would showcase converting unclean water into clean, drinkable water. The method includes
placing two electrodes of saline water into a beaker. This method partly cleans water and also
generates electricity, water can be used for irrigation and other purposes, but to render it
consumable, semi-clean water is transmitted to an R.O scheme which further purifies it and
makes it consumable. The R.O system runs on the electricity provided by the electricity
produced during the cleaning of water, this a unique project that has never been done before
and if applied in a larger scale could end the need of any other energy sources and end most
of the problems. We showcased and explained this with the help of videos(small scale ),
interviews(how it works) and graphics(large-scale 400ltrs implementation)

BACKGROUND STUDY
Industry Overview
In digital video, photography, television and film, production refers to the tasks that must be
completed or executed during filming or shooting. This includes tasks such as setting up
scenes, capturing raw footage and using set designs, to name a few of the many tasks of pre-
production. Production is the second stage in film creation. It follows the pre-production
phase and evolves into the post-production stage.
Film Production is the often less credited creative process of making a film on which an
entire film leans upon whether it is a short film , documentary or a movie, generally in the
sense of films intended for theatrical display.Film development includes a number of discrete
phases, including an original tale, idea or commission, by screenwriting, casting, shooting,
sound recording and pre-production, editing and screening the completed item in front of an
audience that may result in a movie release and exhibition. Filmmaking takes place in a
multitude of financial, social, and political situations in many locations around the globe,
using a variety of technologies and film techniques. It typically includes a big amount of
individuals and can take between a few months and a few years to finish.

The 3 Stages of Filmmaking

Pre-Production: Story Development and Planning

If there is one thing that all movies have in common, it’s the fact that all films started from an
idea. A good story is the foundation of the film and without it, you cannot convince financiers
to fund your film much more convince moviegoers into seeing the final product. Simply put,
the story you want to tell is the most important aspect of filmmaking.
So think of a good idea to build a good story. As you build the story, think of how to tell all
the important elements of the film: the plot, the characters, the conflict, and so on. You can
brainstorm with your partners, conduct research online or offline, and take notes. Always
bring a pen and notebook with you so you can write down cool ideas as soon as they pop into
your head.
During this stage, the idea is pitched to people involved in the film, including the producers,
studios, and financiers. The idea is then fleshed out, the script is written so the story, setting,
and dialogue take a linear form. The script serves as a guide so the rest of the people involved
in making the movie know what’s going to happen during filming. You can also use the script
as a reference for dialogues, lines, etc.
To visualize every scene, create a storyboard. A storyboard is a sequence of drawings that
represents the scenes you are planning to shoot. Apart from helping you visualize the
important scenes to shoot, a storyboard makes it easier to let other people understand what
you are trying to execute in a shot.
All the aspects of making a film from start to finish
are discussed and set at this stage, including the budget, location, legal agreements,
equipment, marketing, distribution, etc., To find the best location, you’ll have to scout for the
best spots. When constructing the sets or shooting on location, always consider the size of the
space for the cast and crew.
Because making a film is expensive, most films do not get past the development stage. But
once a project moves past the development stage, it’s ready for the actual production.
Production: Shooting a Film
The production stage is where the actual filming starts. It is a nerve-wracking and thrilling
experience at the same time because you’ll be diving deep into the story and working with a
lot of creative people. The goal here is to shoot all the scenes within the given schedule
without going over the budget. You have to get everything that the director needs to execute
his or her vision while also meeting the expectations of the financiers.
During the physical production, you have to assemble your cast and crew. Do not rush; take
your time finding the right people for the job so the director’s vision will be executed
perfectly. Do not feel obligated to include family and friends in your film unless they are
suitable for the job.
To minimize delays and avoid mistakes, come prepared. Be sure to shoot with the script
ready. Create an organized schedule; make sure every person involved in the movie knows
the schedule so the cast and crew know what scene will be shot and when. Check and keep
track of all the tools and equipment you’ll use for the actual filming. Make sure the actors are
prepared with their lines and the crewmembers are in their right places before shooting.
Allow yourself more time to shoot the same scene from different angles. By giving yourself
more time to shoot the scenes, you have a lot of footage to work with, in case changes or
problems crop up during post-production. To help with the editing, pay close attention to the
sound quality when recording live sound or pre-record some background sound for a certain
scene.

Post Production: Editing, Public Showing, and Distribution

One might think that the production phase is the most action-packed stage of filmmaking but
the post-production is even busier. This is the phase where everything falls together, all
scenes that were shot during the production phase are painstakingly pieced together to create
a rough cut version of the movie.
The online and offline editing will be the main focus of the post-production phase. The
director and the editor will work together to edit the film so the final product appears exactly
the way the director wants it to. You’ll get an editor to edit the film and apply motion
graphics, audio, computer graphics, etc. Colour grading and sound mixing are also applied to
fine-tune the color and soundscape of the final film.
The distribution phase is just an added step to the process because it is not a part of the studio
workflow. Unless a distributor has already been acquired, the final film is presented to the
public through public showings, film markets, and movie festivals to find a distributor. The
distributor will handle the marketing campaign for the film and decide the way the film will
be released (DVD or wide theatrical release).

The past of film creation or production had its ups and downs but always evolved and had a
tendency to push through, and pushed through it has ton the present scenario where films are
made in any scale it may be i.e lengthy feature films to small advertisements and every one
of them is booming creating their own little industries. This has resulted in monetary success
and also more importantly creative accomplishment in the niche fields. This has opened up
the gates to newer, fresher ventures and the ever increasing speed of technology will leave us
spellbound to what we will see in the future. (TDU)

PROJECTS
UNDERTAKEN
Projects Completed
I as an intern majorly indulged myself in creating top quality visual content for our
university so were my fellow colleagues and senior members. I personally worked with many
camera and camera equipments including DSLRs with various lenses , 4k Video Cameras ,
supporting equipments such as the tripods, light stands. Gaining practical knowledge about
lighting equipments (Strobe Lights, Baby Spot Light etc) and the various techniques known
only by handing the equipment in real life situations not theoretical knowledge. Not to
mention small necessities that are needed such as butter paper and its usage for diffusion of
light as to get the perfect tone of it these were things that were new to me. We learnt how to
deal with different people from unique professions and different walks of life while
completely indulging ourselves in creating corporate and educational videos for various
departments of our university .

1. AMITY FINISING SCHOOL ( Corporate video)

Amity Finishing School gave us the responsibility of making their corporate video which
would showcase the courses they offered and the activities performed in their core
curriculum. We shot the operations of AFS that were Yoga, Fine Dining, Ballroom Dancing,
Cooking and Social Etiquette to show how well these activities are carried out and how they
create a better individual out of you so that you can trust yourself and accomplish whatever
you want in your future career opportunities.
Duration : 14 days
Length of the Video : 5 minutes
2. AMITY SUMMER SCHOOL ( Corporate Video)
Our next initiative was to create a corporate film for Amity Summer School, We were
given the responsibility of covering every event and activity that takes place in summer
school. We started of by shooting interviews of various students participating in summer
school, We then progressed in the next few days with shooting the activities of different
departments (aerospace, architecture, fashion designing, film & drama, mass
communication etc) for the project. We also took interviews of the faculty members as
well as the coordinators.
Duration : 20 days
Length of the Video : 5 minutes
3. AMITY INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED RESEARCH &
STUDIES (M&D) (Educational Video)
ASCO Studio were once again given the responsibility of creating an educational video
which would showcase the conversion of unclean water into clean, drinkable water. The
method includes placing two electrodes (cathode & anode) into a beaker with saline water.
This method partly cleans the water and also generates electricity, the water can be used for
irrigation purposes, but to make it consumable, half-clean water is moved to an R.O device
that further purifies it and makes it consumable.. This R.O system runs on the electricity
provided by the electricity produced during the cleaning of water, this a unique project that
has never been done before and if applied in a larger scale
Duration Taken : 9 days
Length of the Video : 5 minutes
4. Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology department of Amity University is an interesting field of research
and we were given the opportunity to learn more about how it functions and what all
the department can do with its various top of the line equipments. We documented
every equipment and students and faculty working on it for their video
Duration Taken : 5 days
Length of the Video : 5 minutes

Miscellaneous
Our job as interns was learning as much possible and also contributing at the same time hence
we worked on many other projects as well for e.g. WCCB, Sahranpur-Sheesham project ,
Voice of Slum and other previously undertaken projects by our ASCO studio but we weren’t
an integral part in some and in other cases things got wary and the project was cancelled due
to unforeseen reasons such as the Sharanpur project in which was cancelled one day before
we were about to travel to the location we had everything planned out and had already
invested a lot of time and energy on planning and researching. Nonetheless it was an
experience gained as we got to know the things that can happen in the industry at any given
time.
Learning Outcomes
Under the guidance of Dr. Gauri Chakraborty (Joint Acting Head ofASCO), who has already
carried out countless projects effectively, I learned immensely and also thanks to Mr. Ankit
Alok (Asst Producer & Faculty) who we directly reported to who gave us the opportunity to
be a part of the amazing ASCO team . He was a huge help during the course of the internship
and continues to do so. He made us understand what film production is and how its basics
should be done. I’ll be always be thankful for the staff of Amity School of Communication &
its studio and their valuable inculcation of knowledge and values in me and my field of work.
Over the two months, I could see myself improving both my quality of job, skill sets and me
becoming an effective communicator. Apart from the personal assignments, working as a
team was an invaluable thing I got to experience. ASCO's team was highly productive
,cooperative and enjoyable. I was taught the significance of interaction and comprehension at
the job to generate quality output.
We transitioned from shooting outdoor venues and then sitting back on the editing bays to
dump footage and edit what we shot, hence I learnt how to have a balance between these two
and also know what I could do better. I discovered that involving yourself in a project is
something you tend to like, as numerous individuals are engaged in a objective and that team
effort is appreciated, and at the end, when the project is successful, you feel satisfied, as you
have put a lot of effort into it, so it is a mixture of team and individual effort to attain a
common objective that helps us comprehend its significance.
My prior knowledge of video editing in Adobe Premier Pro was a huge help in pursuing this
internship as we had to edit most of the projects in it. Working on newer versions of the
software also helped. I also learnt the basic functions of Final Cut Pro as well as most of the
workplace had it. It was a learning curve to be a part of ASCO and its team for 2 full months
and I will continue to do so in the near future.
Dr Gauri Chakraborty helped me learn about the importance of research and planning before
getting into a project, observing her personally helped me a lot on how one should think both
creatively and technically. I always leaned upon the creative side of filmmaking but her work
routine and the way she did things made me understand that if planning is not taken care of
the creative side will also suffer as everything cannot be improvised.
Mr Ankit Alok brushed up my knowledge on how things are done at ground zero . How
small technical difficulties can be solved without any fuss was a specialty that I picked up
from him during the course of the internship. Minute changes and improvisation done during
the location of the shoot for that extra bit of perfection is something I admired and learned
form him. Making that extra bit of effort to satisfy the creative hunger is something I always
do and seeing someone do it on a regular basis and to do it with guile is what I liked about
him. Lessons and anecdotes of past experiences by him were something that kept us intrigued
about the future opportunities and the fact that this field has both work and fun involved in it.
To sum it all up my time as an intern at ASCO studio was great learning experience in which
I acquired knowledge I previously didn’t have and brush up what I did know. I’ll forever be
grateful for my teachers and senior members who gave me this opportunity and thought I
would excel at the job.
