Geopathic Stress Free Zone

Only project in the tricity on Vastu basis to channelize the positive energies and bring prosperity,
good health & longevity. Chinese vastushastra is most advanced in the world, which is well known
fact. While starting the project they were consulted and to have positive energy flow through
ground many techniques were used to harness underground water’s true potential to spread
positivity all around the concerned area. This believed to bring prosperity and cheerfulness in the
lives of persons living in that vicinity.

The way Vastu of a place is imperative,Geopathy also plays an important role in the stress free
residence. Water is an element of energy and possesses both positive and negative energies. Being
one of the most effective elements of nature, when positioned rightly, it can bring positivity,
prosperity and good health in life.Every Golden Sand home is designed to remove negative
energies, eschewed by neutralizing and diverting these waves using conventional yet reliable
techniques that are being exercised for ages and have constantly shown positive output.

This has been scientifically proven that water flows beneath earth's surface along with magnetic
waves but when any structure comes up and restricts the passage it starts emitting the waves
through the surface of earth which travels through the building eventually setting up disruptive
vibrations in the building. Geopathic stress has been dealt with carefully to keep all the negative
energies and effects at bay and generate a happy and healthy precinct inside your home. Thus
giving you an environment which is 100% positive energy zone.

BUILDING MATERIALS USED CONSTRUCTION
 Uses of Cement:-
There are different uses of cement such as to make cement mortar, cement concrete which are
used in construction of various types of masonry and concrete structures. These uses of cement
are discussed in detail.

Uses of Cement
Following are the different uses of cement in construction works:

1. To prepare cement mortar

2. To prepare cement concrete

3. To build fire proof and thermal proof structures

4. To build hydrographic and frost resistant structures

5. To build chemical proof structures

6. As a grout material

7. To construct Cement concrete roads

8. To manufacture precast members

9. For aesthetic concrete construction

1. To Prepare Cement Mortar

Cement mortar is like a paste which is prepared by adding certain quantity of water to cement
and sand mixture. Cement in this case is denoted as matrix while sand is termed as adulterant.

We know Cement has good binding properties while there are other binding materials are also
available, but cement is mostly used because of its high strength and water resisting properties. It
is used to create a strong bond between bricks, stones in a masonry.

Plastering is done by cement mortar which gives smooth finish to the structure. Cement molds of
different shapes can be made using cement mortar. It is also used to seal the joints of brickwork
and stone work or cracks.
Generally, the cement sand ratio in a mortar is in between 1:2 to 1:6. The ratio of cement and
sand mix is decided based on the importance of work.

2. To Prepare Cement Concrete

Cement concrete is a major building material in the world which is widely using because of its
marvelous structural properties. The ingredients of cement concrete are cement, fine aggregate,
coarse aggregate and water respectively.

In general, ordinary Portland cement is used to prepare concrete. But for special cases or based
on different circumstances many types of cements like rapid hardening cement, high alumina
cement etc. are discovered.
3. To Build Fire Proof or Heat Proof Structures
To with stand against high temperatures and to prevent fire accidents structures should be built
with great fire-resistant materials like cement. High alumina cement is more suitable material to
make concrete for the structures in high temperature regions.

4. To Build Hydrographic and Frost Resistant Structures

Most of the hydrographic structures in the world are built using concrete with cement as binding
material. The structures built in water or in contact with water should be very strong against
moisture and they should be water tight.

Many types of cements like hydrophobic cement, expanding cement, pozzolana cement, quick
setting cement etc. are most suitable for constructing water retaining structures. Quick setting
cement is very much useful in the case when there is limited time to construct under water
structures.

Hydrophobic cement had more resistance against frost actions, so it can be used to build
structures in snow regions also.
5. To Build Chemical Proof Structures
In chemical industries, different chemicals are stored and they may damage the structure if
proper resistance is not there. Acid resistant cement is very much useful in this case.

Similarly, for the constructions under marine conditions, sewage carrying structures etc. Sulphate
resistant cement is useful.

6. For Grouting
Grouting is the process of filling cracks, joints, openings in foundations or any other structural
members to improve their strength. In general, ordinary Portland cements is used as grout
material to which required amount of water and sand is added.
To fill very fine cracks or to fill deep thin cracks micro fine cement is most suitable. Micro fine
cement contains very finer particles than the ordinary Portland cement so it can flow into very
fine and deep cracks in quick time.

7. To Construct Cement Concrete Roads

Cement concrete roads are more famous as high standard roads which are stronger than all other
types of roads. They are also called as rigid pavements because of their rigid nature. C.C roads
have long life span even without proper maintenance. Load wise also they are much capable than
all other types.
8. To Manufacture Precast Members
Many precast members are made using cement as binding material. Cement concrete pipes are
widely used as drains, pipes under culverts etc. Cement concrete brick masonry is more famous
because of the size of block, ease of construction and strength etc.

Water tanks and septic tanks are generally constructed by cement concrete rings. Many other
things like garden seats, flower pots, dust bins, lam posts etc. are manufactured using cement.

9. For Aesthetic Structures

Now a days cement is available in many colors. This is done by adding coloring agent while
manufacturing cement but the percentage of coloring agent should be below 10%. Some of the
coloring agents are iron oxide which gives red or brown, cobalt which gives blue etc.

The colored cement makes the structure beautiful without any painting. Colored cements
generally used for floor finishing, stair treads, window sill slabs, external wall surfaces etc..
 Extruded and Wood Mold Bricks for Residential Construction

Extrusion and Molding are the main two means by which the bricks are manufactured. The
bricks produced by each method have similar characteristics but have differences that are
noticeable.

Extruded Brick in Residential Construction

The main composition of bricks is clay or the shale mixed with suitable mixing agent like water
so that together a required consistency is obtained for the modeling clay mix.

The wet mix is forced and allowed to move through a standard die, which will impress the mix to
a required shape. This will give us an extruded brick. The mold mix is provided through a
molding chamber, which is called as the pug mill. This mix is allowed to pass through a die.
If the required shape required is rectangular, the shape of the die will be rectangle. This
conversion of mold into respective shape is through the continuous application of the pressure.

The figure -1 below shows the process of converting the mold mix from the pug mill into a
rectangular shape under pressure. This process is called as the extrusion and hence called as the
extruded brick.
Fig. 1: The Extrusion of the mold mix Coming out of the pug mill into rectangular shape
The face of the extruded brick can be provided with special texture or coloring. The extruded
column is later divided into adequate length, that will create individual brick. As both, the faces
of the brick will have optional texturing or coloring, both the faces of the brick will be suitable
for finished wall exposure. The top and the bottom face of the brick does not possess any kind of
distinction.

The figure-2 below shows the individual brick column of clay. The figure-3 below shows
different arrangement of bricks to bring different and attractive brick designs.

Fig.2: Individual Column of Clay Parted Separately

Fig.3: Different Possible Brick Orientations
The manufactured extruded brick can be made with hollow spaces or they can be cored as shown
in the figure-4. The bricks with holes throughout the brick is called as cored brick. These core
bricks help in reducing the brick weight and the amount of the material used for the manufacture.
These types of brick also help in getting uniform firing and drying.
They are economic in nature when it comes to their delivery cost. The presence of core help in
having good bond and interlocking between the mortar and the brick. The number of cores in
each brick and their respective sizes vary based on the specification required.

Based on the combined surface area of the core present in the bricks that are manufactured, they
can be classified as solid masonry unit and Hollow brick units. The bricks come under the
category of Solid masonry unit if the net cross-sectional area of the brick that is parallel to the
bedding area is greater than or equal to 75% of the gross cross-sectional area.
This gross cross-sectional area is measured in the same plane. These comes under the category of
Hollow brick if the combined surface area of the holes in the brick is greater than 25% of the
total bed surface area of the brick.
Fig.4. Different Brick with cores of different numbers and size
As mentioned above the cores in bricks help in reducing the unit weight of the material without
compromising the structural capacity of the material.

The most common core brick that is available in the market is 230mm x 110 mm x 76 mm with a
standard weight of 3.09kg. These are used for the construction of the internal walls or as
structures used for supporting.

These core bricks can be used in combination with sound bricks together acting as common
renders that are not load bearing.

The strength provided by a solid brick wall and a cored brick wall does not bring any kind of
variation. The cored brick walls have similar moisture penetration resistance as in the case of a
solid bricks. But in the case of availability of the material, the most available brick type whether
it be solid or cored brick.

Wood Mold Brick for Residential Construction

The placement of clay in a wooden form or a mold will give us wood mold brick. The wood
mold brick does not have cores in it. These type of brick does not have any sort of distinction
between the face side and their backside. But the top and the bottom side will possess some
distinction.
These differences are observed at the edges where some portion of the brick is protruded
outwards. The top is normally flat with the mentioned edges protruding. Bu the bottom face is
not as flat as the top surface. This distinction is observed in the figure – 5 below.

Fig.5. Wood Mold Brick with top surface flatter when compared with the bottom surface

While laying the brick in the mortar bed, either the top or the bottom surface can be used for
laying. But normally the placement of the bottom layer on the mortar bed makes it easy for the
mason to bring alignment horizontally and vertically correct.

During the forming process of the wooden block brick, a recessed area is created on the bottom
surface of the brick. This is called a frog. The frog for different bricks in varying sizes are shown
in the figure-6 below.

Fig.6: The Frog in bricks with different size and shape

The presence of frog in bricks help in increasing the surface area. This in turn help in increasing
the bond between the mortar and the brick.
As per the Brick Industry Association Technical Notes, the bricks that are employed in the
construction of the exterior walls are the Face Bricks. These bricks are classified into three
grades namely the Grade SW, The grade MW and the Grade NW.
The Grade SW = Severe Weathering Brick
These are bricks that are employed for temperatures that makes the bricks more susceptible to
freeze and thaw. The walls that are exposed to temperatures below freezing can be constructed
by this type of brick.

The Grade MW = Moderate Weathering Brick

These can be applied in construction of structures where the freezing is not a problem

The Grade NW = Normal Weathering

These are applied for the construction of the interior walls that must be protected from the water
absorption and freezing issues.

Similarly, the Brick Industry Association also classifies the Paving brick into Grade SX, Grade
MX and Grade NX.
The wooden mold brick will have a sand finish texture. This is because sand is used as an
releasing agent in the mold box.

The wood mold brick is used in giving a traditional touch to the residential building. It improves
the aesthetics of the exterior and the interior walls. A proper and well defined pointing works
with these bricks help in giving a good finish wall without further painting or plastering works.
 How to Determine Suitable Pipe Sizes for Water Distribution in Buildings?

Pipes for water distribution in a building are available in various sizes. Determination of suitable
pipe sizes for various purposes in a building based on various factors such as cost, pressure etc.
are discussed.

Following points regarding pipe sizes in buildings are discussed:

o What are the factors that influence the selection of water distribution pipe size in buildings?

o Procedures used for the determination pipe sizes for water distribution in buildings

Fig.1: Different Pipe Sizes to Distribute Water in Buildings

Factors Influencing Selection of Water Distribution Pipe Size in Buildings
o Cost effectiveness

o Pressure at the source of water supply

o Required pressure at each outlet fixture (examples of outlet fixture are bathtubs, channel drains,
bidets, drinking fountains, kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, showers and others)
o The loss of pressure of outlets placed above water source. Loss of pressure is commonly caused
by friction of water. The friction is occurred due to flow of water in pipes, water flow meter, and
backflow preventer.

o Restriction on water flow velocity to avoid noises and pipe erosion.

o Extra capacity of possible expansion in the future. Generally, the additional capacity if around 10
percent.

o Economic considerations govern the selection process to a great extent. But other factors
explained above may enforce the use specific pipe size other than the most economical ones.

Procedures for Determination of Pipe Sizes for Water Distribution in Buildings

o Draw all suggested horizontal mains, risers and branch lines with necessary information includes
types and number of fixtures and flow that is needed.

o Calculate fixtures demand weight employing Table 1 and Table 2.

o Specify water demand in gallon per millimeter using Figure 2 and Figure 3 and total number of
fixture units.

o Estimate equivalent length of the pipe for each stack in the system. This step should start from
the street main.

o Determine average minimum pressure in the street main. This can be obtained from Water
Company or by test.

o Specify minimum pressure required for the highest fixture

o Calculate the loss of pressure in the pipes using the computed equivalent length of the pipe.

o Finally, select the size of the pipe using Figure 4.

Note:
o Unit sizes provided in the table 1 and table 2 is in mm, but the size of pipes in the chart is in
inch. 1 inch= 25.4mm, 1 ft. = 304.8mm, 1 gallon/m=3.785L/m.

o Water velocity should not be greater than 2.438m/s at valve seat to prevent noise and erosion.

 What is Floor Screed? Its Types, Materials, Construction and Applications

Floor screed is composed of cementitious materials and sand blended based on a suitable mix
design and applied to provide a leveled surface for the floor finish which is introduced to the
surface of the floor screed.

So, floor screed is the base for the floor finish and greatly influences the performance of floor
finish. In this article, different aspects of floor screed will be explored.

Fig.1: Details of Floor Screed

Fig.2: Floor Screed Construction

Following points regarding flooring screeds are discussed:
o Types of floor screed

o Floor screed materials

o What are the requirements that a floor screed should meet?

o Floor screeding procedure

o How a successful screed floor can be constructed?

Types of Floor Screed

There are different types of floor screed that is specified based on the requirements and
applications and the functionality of the floor:

o Unbonded screed floor (Figure 3 and Figure 6)

o Bonded screed floor (Figure 3 and Figure 4)

o Floating screed floor (Figure 3 and Figure 5)

o Heated screed floor (Figure 3 and Figure 7)

Unbonded Screed and (D) Heated Screed
Fig.4: Bonded Screed Floor

Fig.5: Floated Screed Floors

Fig.6: Unbonded Screed Floors

Fig.7: Heated Screed Floor

Materials for Floor Screed
Following are the materials used for construction of floor screeds:

o Cement

o Clean and sharp sand

o Water

o And occasionally additives are added to obtain specific properties. Polymer materials or metal
mesh or glass are likely to be introduced to reinforce the screed.
The above components are adequately blended based on the prepared material proportions. If the
thickness of the floor screed does not exceed 40mm, then the recommended mix is 1 Portland
cement: 3 sands or 1 Portland cement: 4.5 sand.

However, 1 cement: 1.5fine sand: 3 coarse aggregate (10 mm maximum aggregate size) should
be considered if the floor screed thickness is greater than 40mm.

It should be known that drying shrinkage gets reduced as the proportion of cement to sand is
decreased.

Suitable amount of water should be specified to provide required workability since excessive
water would reduce floor screed strength and inadequate water quantity lead to poor compaction.

What are the Requirements that a Floor Screed Should Meet?

Floor screeds should have adequate thickness which is based on the screed type and application
frequencies. Recommended floor screed thickness based on the type of the screed floor and the
construction conditions are provided in Table-1.

Table-1: Recommended Floor Screed Based on the Type of Screed and Construction
Condition

Recommended floor screed

Floor screed type and construction condition
thickness, mm

For monolithic construction. In this case floor screed will be placed no

12 longer than 3 hours after the placement of concrete. This will guarantee a
satisfactory bond between floor screed and placed concrete beneath it.

For screed floor placed on hardened concrete. The concrete should be cut
by appropriate means then cleaned, wetted and finally screed is placed.
40
Not only will this ensure good bond but also make the screed to dry
slowly and prevent cracks.
For floor screed placed on impermeable damp proof membrane. In this
50 case a bond between the screed and the layer below it would not exist and
hence shrinkage is unrestrained.

For screed installed on compressible course of sound or heat insulation

material. This is recommended for domestic application only, otherwise
65
the thickness of the screed should be increased. Lesser thickness will
suffer from crack development.

For screed installed on compressible course of sound or heat insulation

75 material. This is advised for applications other than domestic utilization.
Lesser thickness will suffer from crack development.

o Floor screed strength should be 20MPa for domestic application and 30MPa for industrial
utilization

o It should be solid and compact so as to provide satisfactory base for the floor finish

o It should be curried properly to prevent shrinkage and rapid drying which lead to cracks. So, it
should undergo almost all shrinkage, which floor screed might experience, prior to applying
floor finish. This will lead to prevent the initiation of cracks.

o Finally, floor screed surface should be flat and smooth.

Procedure of Floor Screeding

o Evaluate the surface of the base

o Estimate materials used for screeding

o Prepare the base

o Prepare the floor screed mixture

o Apply bonding agents such as water or bonding slurry

o Place the floor screed mixture

o Finally, properly cure the placed materials

How a Successful Screed Floor can be Constructed?

o Choose right and suitable screed contractor

o Select suitable screed floor type

o Produce right and suitable floor screed mixture

o Construct floor screed using appropriate and acceptable screed placement process

o Consider right approaches for floor screed protection

 Types of Glazing Panels, Methods and Construction Details

Glazing are referred to the panels that are fixed into the aluminum or other types of frames to
curtain wall construction. Commonly, there are various techniques which can be used in the
construction or placement of glazing panels; glaze panels might be glass or other materials.

These methods glazing panel construction will be discussed in the following sections.

Fig.1: Curtain Wall, Glaze Panels are Fixed into Frames

Types of Glazing Panels and Methods
Glazing methods are provided as follows:

o Dry glazed

o Wet glazed

o Point supported glass systems

o Cable net

o Double skin wall

Dry Glazed
In this approach, compression stresses are applied to fix metal panels or glass units into the
glazing pocket of the frames. The necessary compression force can be obtained using rubber
gaskets and occasionally structural tapes.

Generally, the rubber gasket, which is compressed in advance, are placed on either side of the
glazed element, and panels may be glazed from the exterior or interior based on the system.

Fig.2: Dry Glazed

Fig.3: Dry Glazed System with Rubber Gasket used in the Oldcastle Building, United
States
Wet Glazed
In this technique, the infill element is placed and attached to the frame using proper attaching
agents such as silicone sealant. The sealant application process should be conducted properly
otherwise the attachment agent would not work suitably. For example, the perimeter need to be
prepared sufficiently and then the sealant element is applied to the perimeter.

Structural silicone glazing as shown in figure-4 is a particular kind of wet glazed utilization that
need utmost attention and observation of the sealant. The process begins with applying the
adhering agent to the aluminum frame and then the panel is placed into its position.

The silicone would create a bond, which can withstand lateral loading, between the aluminum
frame and the panel.

It is recommended to carry out such process in closed spaces such as factories and shops since
the adhesion of the agent would decease when dusts are present on the surfaces.

The structural silicone glazing can be made for one or two storey heights. Figure-5 illustrates the
direction of the structural silicone glazing applied in a multi storey building.
Fig.4: Structural Silicone Glazing

Fig.5: Structural Silicone Glazing

Point Supported Glass Systems
This system has been used since 1960s and it has undergone some development but its basics
remain the same. It consists of strengthened or tempered glass through which holes are provided
to attach it to the structure using proper means such as bolted fittings as shown in Figure-6 and
Figure-7.
It can be observed form these figures that the fittings cause smallest obstruction of views due to
their small sizes. The glass is commonly tempered by exposing it to high degree of temperature
during its processing. This will reduce possible damages during its life service.

Fig.6: Fitting in the Point Supported Glass System

Fig.7: Various Configuration of Point Supported Glass Systems

Fitting manufacturing are mostly controlled by architectural intent. Point supported systems are
considerably pleasing aesthetically but it needs great cautions to obtain required detailing and
precision.

The analysis of point supported system is quite complicated and it may need to use finite element
modeling to specify loads transfer and stress through an by fittings.

Fig.8: Point Supported Glazing System

Cable Net
Cable is another type of glazing panel construction that provide substantial views. It is an elegant
glazing panels that does not need framing but it could be costly and expensive.

Due to the effect on loading on the panels, not only does cable net structural analysis is required
to be carry out accurately but also construction works need massive coordination.

Cable net walls are commonly flexible that is why they are likely to deflect extremely. This may
make occupants uncomfortable but the functionality of the building will not be influenced and its
aesthetic views would not be distorted.
Fig.9: Use of Cable Net in UBS Tower, Chicago, United States
Double Skin Wall
This type of curtain is considered to be the most expensive compared to other ordinary types of
panel construction.

Fig.10: Double Skin Façade

Double skin wall construction is quite complex and consist of two skin of glass or façade, and
the space between the facades is employed to manipulate energy comes from sunlight and
ventilation are installed that employs the warm air in the space between glass walls. It should be
said that the ventilation could be natural, fans, or mechanically controlled.
 Health Issues with Building Materials During and After Construction
Building materials used in construction of building structures can welcome health issues
subsequently for occupants or to workmen involved in building services, maintenances,
demolition and refurbishment.

Even if the most green and benign materials are employed for the construction, the building
siting, the original design as well as the any kind of conversion carried on it will bring the
conditions of indoor environment to be imperfect.

This may be due to:

1. Vibration Effects

2. Poor acoustic characteristics of the building

3. Dysfunctional lighting

4. Extremes of relative humidity

5. The air exchange is inadequate

6. Toxicity mediated through soil

The above-mentioned issues will affect the durability of the building along with the health and
comfort of the people residing in the respective building.
Building Materials to Hazardous Material Conversion Stage
The whole life of a construction material must be considered and audited into account to
understand what are the human and environmental health hazard issues from these materials.

Other than this, the following mentioned stages must also be considered:

1. The health as well as environmental impacts during the procurement of raw materials and the
final disposal of the by-product or the waste product must be considered.

The process of obtaining raw materials includes mining, synthesis, manufacture and quarrying.
Disposal of mine or unwanted by products, quarry spoil is some of the disposed materials.

2. The hazards and health effects during the transportation of the materials must be considered.

3. The effects of manufacturing a building product: The harmful effects if exist will affect the
production worker, the members involved in the process, the public and the environment around.

4. Improper handling of the product bringing harmful effects to the construction workers, the
local residents and the environment.

5. The hazard effects from commissioned buildings that have installed product to the people
residing.

6. The hazard effects from the works like maintenance, refurbishment and servicing to the
professional workings, the decorators, plumbers, electricians and residents.

7. The health and hazard effects arising due to the disposal of discarded materials obtained
through replacement or demolition to the residents, tradesman and the environment.

Identification of Hazards Within a Construction Material

The hazard in construction materials are explained by taking the practical examples of stock
houses located in United Kingdom. These stock houses constitute a thousand-year history of
construction techniques and materials.
The materials vary from rubble, timber, stone which were used in early constructions to concrete,
steel, brick and breeze block.

During the time of construction, the surface skins and the connective tissues filling the gas are
largely composed of materials. By the end of 20th century as a concern of economy and safety
thousands of construction materials of asbestos have been installed in UK for new and old
buildings.
The variation in the use of water supply connection materials have also brought mitigation to
leakage problems hence avoiding the possibilities leakage that will in turn cause cholera, typhoid
and other health problems.

This was the time where less toxic materials where used for plumbing systems like copper, iron
and polymers.
