The School Head, Dr. Marichu O.
Gapoy spearheaded the
San Nicolas Elementary School – Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (GPP). She established and maintained her own garden in front of her office. The teachers and the parents are involved in the preparation of the SNES-GPP. They are making trellis for their vegetables. The Parent Teachers Association is very supportive in the implementation of SNES-GPP. They are establishing a containerized garden using mineral water bottles. The EPP/TLE learners are also involved in the preparation and establishment of vegetable gardens. The school garden is being taken care of by the learners by watering the vegetables regularly to keep the soil always moist. Insect traps or fly catchers are placed to avoid insect infestation. The learners and teachers are removing the grass and weeds around the vegetables so they do not compete in getting the nutrients from the soil. Cultivation around the vegetable is also regularly done to loosen the soil. Heavy vegetable yields like squash are supported with nets. Crops like bitter gourd (Ampalaya) and sponge gourd (upo) are wrapped with paper to prevent them from insects.
