CHAPTER 1:
INTRODUCTION
Early exposure to smoking is consistently found to be positively associated with the millennials today.
Despite continued health campaigns, tobacco smoking remains a pervasive problem and the harmful
effects of tobacco smoking and secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure on morbidity and mortality are well
established. Although the prevalence of tobacco smoking among adolescents is declining in high-income
countries, the use of some tobacco products such as e-cigarettes has increased and these are often used
in conjunction with cigarette smoking. Many smokers try their first cigarette in early adolescence and
establish habits that can persist into adulthood.
Smoking is a practice in which a substance is burned and the resulting smoke breathed in to be tasted
and absorbed into the bloodstream. Most commonly the substance is the dried leaves of the tobacco
plant which have been rolled into a small square of rice paper to create a small, round cylinder called a
cigarette. Smoking is primarily practiced as a route of administration for recreational drug use because
the combustion of the dried plant leaves vaporizes and delivers active substances into the lungs where
they are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and reach bodily tissue. In the case of cigarette smoking
these substances are contained in a mixture of aerosol particles and gasses and include the
pharmacologically active alkaloid nicotine; the vaporization creates heated aerosol and gas into a form
that allows inhalation and deep penetration into the lungs where absorption into the bloodstream of the
active substances occurs. In some cultures, smoking is also carried out as a part of various rituals, where
participants use it to help induce trance-like states that, they believe, can lead them to spiritual
enlightenment.
This study used a sample of 20 grade 11 random students of Fellowship Baptist College to answer the
given questionnaires. Results indicated a statistically significant cases between early exposure to
smoking and making a decision about smoking, over and above the awareness of the effects of smoking.
Millennials are one of the particular cases today in the society that is exposure to smoking and some are
already used to smoke. Almost all first use of cigarettes occurs during the high school years. At that age,
millennials are either not well informed or they do not consciously process information on the health
hazards of smoking. At that time, the millennials are making a decision about smoking or either they
typically understimates the risk of addiction to cigarettes and mistakenly assumes that they can quit
easily in a few years.
CHAPTER 3
INTRODUCTION
We began this study to determine what is the reasons of the early exposure to smoking among
millennials. We chose and analyzed the question that we want to ask them to determine the facts on
what millennials respond to smoking. We gathered some information in some random students in
Fellowship Baptist College to know their reactions to the early exposure to smoking. This study shows
about the early exposure to smoking among millennials.
I. RESEARCH DESIGN
This study utilizes descriptive-quantitative research. The researchers conduct this study by giving the
respondents a questionnaire through quantitative data by using self-administered questionnaire. The
structured questionnaire was administered personally by our members.
As critical educational research, this study's substantive agenda was to examine and interrogate the
relationships and reactions between millennials and communities (social group being defined as part of
communities). Limitations of the study are noted, and suggestions are made for future studies.
The respondents of the study are the Grade 11 random students of Fellowship Baptist College, school
year 2018-2019.
The first step before going to the testing proper is to make an approval. The
researchers ask a permission to conduct a research at Fellowship Baptist
College and allow the researchers to recruit 20 random students from grade 11
to answer a first page questionnaire.
The results of the survey will be applied for the research project and each
result from this study will remain confidential. This study will be published,
but only answered results will not be documented. No costs will be liable by
your school or the individual respondents.
V. DATA TREATMENT
The viable responses and the expected problems that the respondents may
answer were posted. For instance, they do smoke or they know someone who smoke ,
are they aware about the effects of smoking, what do they feel when they smoke or sees
someone who smoke, and they advice someone who smoke to stop. In providing overall
picture of the early exposure to smoking among millennials.
