The Titanomachy

The Titanomachy was a war between the Gods and the Titans. This war lasted 10 years with no

clear winner. However, the Gods defeated the Titans a little bit after that. According to

GreekGodsandGoddesses.net, the series of wars in the Titanomachy took place in Thessaly. The

Gods were in control of Mount Olympus while the Titans controlled Mount Othrys. In

GreekMyths-GreekMythology.com, they explained how the Titans were a powerful race of

deities and came to power of the world when they overthrew their father Uranus who was the

first ruler of the universe. During the war, the Gods and the Titans fought long and hard battles

for over a decade. After Zeus freed the Cyclops, they rewarded him with his very popular

lightning bolt. Then, the Gods finally defeated the Titans with the help of older powers. Zeus

was named God of the sky and thunder after his great leadership in the war.

In this picture, Zeus is seen defending the Gods and attacking the Titans with his lightning bolt.

The enemy is a three headed snake known as the Hydra.

Cronus

Cronus was a ruthless Titan that fought alongside the Titans in the Titanomachy. He was the

most popular Titan because of his power and how he ruled the universe. He came to power by

overthrowing his father, Uranus, who was ruler of the universe before him. According to

GreekGodsandGoddesses.net, Cronus envied the power of Uranus, who was the ruler of the

universe at the time. Gaia was angry at Uranus because he put her children in Tartarus, which

imprisoned them. Gaia convinced Cronus and his Titan brothers to overthrow Uranus. Only

Cronus was willing to overthrow him. Once it was all over, Uranus’s blood fell onto the Earth

which created Gigantes, Erinyes, and Meliae. The blood that fell onto the sea created Aphrodite,

the God of love and beauty. Cronus then incarcerated the Cyclopes and the Hecatonchires.

Cronus and Rhea, his sister, took over power together. After this is when Cronus heard about the
prophecy that one of his sons would overthrow him. Then we know that Zeus overthrew Cronus

and the Titanomachy started.
