strictly in accordance with this Admission Policy which is reflected in the
Prospectus.

2. Currently, the University of Health Sciences Lahore (www.uhs.edu.pk) is

responsible for conducting the Admission Test (MDCAT) and finalizing the
selection of candidates for MBBS and BDS in Public Sector Medical and Dental
Institutions respectively.

3. Admissions to the public sector medical/dental colleges Institutions is strictly

merit-based, with no discretion, whatsoever, vested in any authority.

4. The Admission Process starts every year with an advertisement in the major
newspapers of the country. It usually appears on the Last Sunday of June or First
Sunday of July. The advertisement is also uploaded on UHS website. It contains
details about the application procedure and schedule of admissions.

5. Admission Test (MDCAT) :

i. The Medical & Dental Colleges‟ Admission Test is a standardized

admission test which is mandatory for admission to MBBS and BDS
programme in all public and private sector medical and dental institutions
(except otherwise provided in the regulations) according to the regulations
of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC). It is a two and a half
hour (150 minutes) paper based test that is offered once a year. The test
is administered by the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore, on
behalf of the Government of the Punjab. UHS is responsible for producing
and marking the test, and also facilitating an extensive province-wise
centre network at which the candidates can sit the test.

ii. It is mandatory for candidates having domicile of any district of Punjab to

appear in this Admission Test for admission against Open Merit, Disabled,
Under-Developed Districts and Reciprocal Seats in Public Sector Colleges
and for Local Seats in Private Sector Colleges of the Province.

iii. The candidates desirous for admission against Overseas/Foreign seats in

Public as well as Private Sector Medical and Dental Institutions can either
appear in the Admission Test or in lieu of Admission Test they can present
their SAT II scores (which must not be less than 550/800 in Biology,
Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics each) or American MCAT scores
(which must not be less than 24 in old scoring system and 498 in new
scoring system in aggregate (43 or above percentile)). The validity period
for SAT II/MCAT scores is 02 years. This means that scores declared
before 1st October 2015 shall not be acceptable for admissions for the
session 2017-18. It is also to be noted that these scores are a pre-
requisite for admissions. The results declared after the last date of
submission of Admission Forms for Public sector Medical/Dental
Institutions shall not be acceptable.

6. Admission Procedure:

i. The Admission Process in Public Sector Medical/Dental Institutions begins

in October after the declaration of HSSC Part II result by all the Boards of
Intermediate and Secondary Education in Punjab.

ii. UHS invites applications from eligible candidates for admission against
Open Merit and Reserved Seats including Disabled, Under-Developed
Districts, Reciprocal (for Punjab-domiciled candidates) and
Overseas/Foreign Seats as per the schedule advertised earlier.

iii. The merit is worked out as per the regulations of Pakistan Medical and
Dental Council (PM&DC), and is based on the aggregate percentage of
the candidates worked out by adding the marks in the following ratio:
Matriculation (SSC or Equivalent) – 10%
HSSC/F.Sc (Premedical or Equivalent) – 40%
Admission Test/SAT II/American MCAT – 50%

iv. The Formula for calculation of merit is as follows:

Marks obtained in SSC /Equivalent x 1100 x 0.10 = 10% of SSC/Equivalent
Total marks of SSC/Equivalent

Marks obtained in HSSC /Equivalent x 1100 x 0.40 = 40% of HSSC/Equivalent

Total marks of HSSC/Equivalent

Marks obtained in Admission Test /SAT II/MCAT x 1100 x 0.50 = 50% of Test
Total marks of Admission Test /SAT II/MCAT

10% SSC/Equivalent +40%HSSC/Equivalent +50% Admission Test = Agg. Marks

Aggregate Marks x 100 = Aggregate Percentage

1100

Example 1 :
Marks obtained in Matriculation = 992 / 1050
Marks obtained in HSSC/FSc = 980 / 1100
Marks obtained in Admission Test = 970 / 1100

By applying the aforementioned formula:

992 / 1050 x 1100 x 0.10 = 103.92

980/1100 x 1100 x 0.40 = 392
970/1100 x 1100 x 0.50 = 485

Aggregate Marks = 103.92 + 392 + 485 = 980.92

Aggregate Percentage = 980.92 / 1100 x 100 = 89.1745%

Example 2 :
Equivalence of O-Level = 812/900
Equivalence of A-Level = 925/1100
SAT II Score = 2100/2400

812/900 x 1100 x 0.10 = 99.24

925/1100 x 1100 x 0.40 = 370
2100/2400 x 1100 x0.50 = 481.25

Aggregate Marks = 99.24 + 370 + 481.25 = 950.49

Aggregate Percentage = 950.49/1100 x 100 = 86.4081%

v. Final calculation in percentage will be rounded up to four decimal points.
