as a function of its water content rate. The design shall consider the total daily drainage
flow of the tanks
Depending on the fluid being stored, the discharge shall be controlled by more than one valve
in order to send the contaminated water to the line that shall carry it to the respective treatment
system, or to the rain water system if the stored fluid is not considered contaminated (according
to MINAMB standards).
Drainage valves in tank firms must be located outside the area protected by the fire walls.
The drainage system shall be tested so that with the valve fully open, the maximum level of the
combined contaminated waters inside the dikes shall not exceed in 300mm the height of the
support base of the tank, after 6 h of continuous fire fighting
The Manning equation shall be used to calculate the gravity flow in channels and pipelines.
V = (1/n) x R 2/3 x S 1/2
Where:
Q = Flow (m3/s).
A = Area of the section that transports the effluent (m²).
V = Velocity at filled section (m/s).
n = Manning roughness coefficient of the pipeline or channel material.
0.015 : Concrete D < 21"
0.013 : Concrete D > 21"
0.011 : P.V.C.; Fiberglass
0.011 : Steel; cast iron
R = Hydraulic radius (ratio between wetted area and wetted perimeter).
S = Longitudinal grade of the pipeline / channel.
For closed collectors or pipelines, the maximum design flow shall be the one estimated for a cross
