Write an Informal Letter to your mother in about 300 words telling her of your achievements in
college.

A-607, Hillcrest,

Andheri,

Mumbai-400008.

22nd July 2015.

Dear mother,

I hope this letter finds you in the best of your health and spirits. I am writing this letter to you to tell
you about my achievements at the college this year.

This year has been one of the most eventful years of my life. In the first month of college itself, I was
elected as the class representative for the year. My classmates and teachers believed that my
responsible and humble demeanour made me the perfect choice for this position. This was just the
beginning. Once college began full swing, I became as busy as a bee.

My next successful endeavour was being a part of the organising committee of Mumbai’s largest
college festival – Unnati. I participated in the organisation of this event in the capacity of the President
of the entire organising team. Managing a multitude of people and ensuring that all that was planned
was executed effectively almost took a toll on my physical and mental health. However, the
satisfaction of its fruition was unparalleled. Besides this, I took part in a variety of conferences to
realise my public speaking potential. Being awarded the ‘Best Speaker’ at several of these symposiums
instilled a huge load of confidence in me. Academically, too, I have been working hard and I managed
to achieve a position among the top three ranks in each semester. I do not think that this would be
possible without the constant support of my teachers and friends who helped me cover up the classes I
missed so often.

After such a tiring but fulfilling college year, I will be coming home over the summer break. I have
been missing Papa, you and Vedika a lot and hope to see you soon!

Yours lovingly,
Sanaya.
Write a Formal Letter to your Municipal Corporation in about 300 words complaining about the state
of roads in your area and the lack of street lights there.

Director (Personnel) – South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC)

New Delhi, Delhi -110056

SUBJECT: POOR CONDITION OF ROADS AND LACK OF STREET LIGHTS IN ASHOK VIHAR

Sir,

I, Ankita Vasudha, am a resident of Ashok Vihar. This letter is to draw the attention of the SDMC to the
pathetic condition of roads in Ashok Vihar. The stretch between sector 64 and sector 125 has been in
a very poor state since the last 6 months. This stretch, which is one of the busiest roads in New Delhi,
also lacks street lighting.

The onset of the monsoon has only worsened the situation. There are huge potholes on this road which
along with zero maintenance of this stretch leads to huge traffic jams during the peak hours. Needless
to say, the damage it causes to the vehicles plying on this road is costing the citizens heavily. Almost
every other day, a vehicle is punctured or dented or it gets stuck. Lack of proper lighting only adds to
the misery of the people. The number of accidents occurring here has also gone up significantly.

Further, it has become very difficult for the pedestrians to walk along this road due to the fact that the
vehicles including company buses, cabs and cars tend to avoid the potholes and drive along the sides
of the roads, where pedestrians tend to walk because of the lack of proper footpaths.

These conditions have caused a lot of inconvenience to the residents of this area as well as commuters.

Keeping the above in view, I hope that the SDMC will initiate expeditious steps to ensure the repairing
of this road with proper lighting.

Thanking you.

Yours faithfully,
Ankita Vasudha.

Subject: Request for increasing security for women in college

Dear Sir,

I, the undersigned, am writing this letter to you to request you to hike the security for women in the
college. I am a student of your institution and am pursuing Economics. I am voicing out such a concern
on behalf of all the other female students of the college.

Given the current scenario in the Indian diaspora and numerous untoward incidents that are being
reported almost daily, I believe that women’s security is an issue that needs to be tackled effectively at
the earliest. Most of the female students in the campus travel from faraway suburban areas and often
stay back in the college campus even after the lectures are over because they participate in a wide
range of extra-curricular activities. As such, it is imperative that the surveillance be increased for
women in the college lest we face undesirable consequences.

This is why I earnestly request you to take some action as soon as possible. I would be highly obliged
if you would do the needful and heighten the security in and around the college campus for all the
females. I thank you in anticipation.

Yours truly,

Write a letter to your civic body complaining about hoardings and advertisement signboards on the roadside.

To,
Mr P. K. Singh
Municipal Commissioner – Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation(NMMC)
Belapur,
Navi Mumbai, 400706

SUBJECT: ILLEGAL HOARDINGS AND ADVERTISEMENT SIGNBOARDS ON THE ROADSIDE

I, Sanket Misra, am a resident of Belapur. This letter is to draw the attention of the NMMC to
the illegal hoardings and signboards on either side of Palm Beach Road.

In total disregard to the existing rules, hoardings and signboards have been placed along the
roadside for over a year. No one really knows who has placed these hoardings and
signboards, but several private organizations have taken advantage of this lapse in vigilance.
Despite a complaint lodged by the residents of Belapur, the local police authorities have
failed to remove these boards.

On several occasions, these hoardings have displayed obscene photographs that often
distract the motorists and onlookers. The traffic police generally blame rash driving and lane
indiscipline for the growing number of accidents on Palm Beach Road, but one cannot deny
the role of these distractive hoardings in causing accidents. These illegal hoardings and
signboards have caused a lot of inconvenience to the motorists and residents of this area.

Keeping the above in view, I hope the NMMC will initiate the necessary steps to ensure the
removal of these illegal hoardings and signboards.

Thanking you.

Yours faithfully,
Sanket Misra.

Write a letter to your elder brother asking him to guide you in making a career choice.

B-103, Riddhi Siddhi,

Airoli,
Navi Mumbai – 400704
17th November 2017
Dear Brother,

I hope this letter finds you in the best of your health and spirits. I am writing this letter to
seek career advice from you.

After completing my graduation this year, I intend to take up a short-term course in banking
management from a reputed banking institute in Mumbai. After completing this course, I am
sure that the banking certificate will open the doors of opportunities for me in the private
banking sector.

Why banking? Why do a banking course? Why private sector? I know that these are some of
the questions you may want to ask me. I have always admired bankers ever since you had
taken me to our bank when I was 8 years old. Bankers have a good status in the society and
it is also considered to be a respectable profession. I can clear banking competitive exams
and gain entry into nationalized banks or take up a banking course to get a job in a private
bank. For nationalized banks, the competition is fierce. But gaining entry in private banks is
not that easy at all. Hence, the banking course would be the best way to fulfill my
aspirations.

Since you have been in the corporate world for over two decades now, I feel you are the
right person to guide me on my career decision. Should I try for a public sector bank or
should I seek opportunities in the private sector banking domain? What are the pros and
cons of each? What would you have done if you were in my place? I am not expecting an
immediate reply as I know that you may want to do some groundwork before you give me
pertinent advice.

Please give my best regards to your wife and lots of love for your cute daughter, Ria. I am
hoping to meet you and your family this Diwali for a fantastic vacation.

Yours lovingly,
Kamal
Q. Write a letter to the SHO of your area complaining against the violation of traffic rules by
the people. (WORD LIMIT- 150)

24th August 2017

The SHO,
Sadar, Nagpur,
Maharashtra

Sir,

I wish to draw your kind attention towards the increasing incidents of road accidents in our area. The
major cause of such incidents is the violation of traffic rules and absence of traffic police on signals.
People are in a habit of breaking laws. Everybody on the road seems to be in a hurry.
It is very common that many people talk over mobile while drive and also jump red lights. Over
speeding is another cause of road accidents. All these have contributed to the increase in the road
accidents. Pedestrians do not feel safe while moving on the road.
It is, requested to take immediate necessary action to check the incidence of road accidents. Traffic
police may be deployed on every street to punish those who dare to break the traffic rules.

Yours faithfully,

Subject: Installation of Traffic Lights

Dear sir,

I wish to draw your kind attention to the fact that the crossing near our locality has no traffic lights.
Also there is found hardly a constable to man the crossing. A heavy traffic passes through this
crossing. All this poses a danger to the residents since they face much difficulty in crossing the road
lights.
Despite the best efforts of the residents to be vigilant in crossing the roads, there occurred recently an
accident at this crossing. A boy of the locality was knocked down by a speeding car. God id to be
thanked that he had a miraculous escape except some minor injuries.
In these circumstances, i request you that traffic lights should be installed immediately and the zebra
crossing lines be painted at the appropriate places.

Thanking you

SBI PO Mains – Online Education in India

Education is the basic foundation of a student’s life. It shapes his overall personality and demeanor.
Thus it is important that everyone has access to good education. With the growing popularity of
electronic media, conventional methods of teaching are slowly and steadily being replaced by modern
technology. With simple blackboards changing to interactive whiteboards, we are assured that change
is on its way. This brings us to another important facet of education in a country like India – online
education.

Online education is considered to be the means of attending classes via the internet. Many
companies and start-ups provide online platforms to study on. These include MeritNation, Testbook,
Toppr, Simplilearn, Ufaber, Intellipaat and Learnsocial among others.

Also known as distance learning, online education provides students with the advantage of studying
in an atmosphere in which they are comfortable. This is especially beneficial for those individuals who
are burdened with family responsibilities at a young age and those who barely have the time to attend
a formal institution.

On the other hand, however, online education hinders the process of socialization. Limited contact with
peers and restricted interactions with teachers can confine one’s horizons. The guidance that can be
given through a direct, face-to-face conversation is often dwindled by the boundaries of the virtual
world.

To add to this, internet penetration in India is very low. So it is not possible for people who really need
this kind of education to actually benefit from it. This becomes the responsibility of the government
then to ensure that the internet and consequently online education is made available to the remotest
parts of the country.

Ultimately, just like there are two sides to a coin, online education has both advantages and
disadvantages. It depends on an individual and his circumstances to decide whether the pros outweigh
the cons or vice versa.

And that is probably why Heidi-Hayes Jacobs has said, “Teachers need to integrate technology
seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event.” The
education scenario in India must take such suggestions in its stride to better its service and quality.

Topic 4 for SBI PO Mains – Honesty is the Best Policy

Right from a young age, the one value that people around us have always tried to inculcate in us is
honesty. Our parents, older siblings, teachers and guardians always emphasize how important it is to
be truthful in our actions and words. Even the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi, always
propagated truth as the strongest value addition to our characters.

However, we often tend to be carried away by the ease and comfort that lies shield us with. Truth is
something that is often seen as the more complicated and difficult thing to speak out. The bitterness
and rudeness attached with giving someone a frank opinion is tougher to handle than sugar coated lies
and flattery.

The most important thing to understand is that genuineness always pays off. Firstly, if you tell the
truth, you don’t have to remember what lies you created and concocted. Distorted versions of the
truth, on the other hand, require a very good memory.

Secondly, the truth may hurt for a while but a lie causes much more agony when it is revealed as a lie.
Honesty is the foundation on which relationships and trust are built. A single lie can jeopardize one’s
faith. A single deception can destroy relations.

Lastly, people who always speak the truth do not live in the fear of being caught. Their mind is free of
the worry and anxiety of making up another lie. It is true, to cover up one lie, man has to speak a
thousand!

So why choose the wrong path when the right one is welcoming us with open arms? It is true, and so
shall it always hold – Honesty is the best policy.

Cyber Security & its Threats to Banking Industry

Cyber security or computer security is the way to protect the computer data from theft and threats
that may damage the hardware, software and the information. Major areas covered in cyber security
are application security, information security, disaster recovery and network security.

In the world of technology everything has gone digital. From ordering food to booking flights,
everything can be done with use of internet. As the banking sector is evolving and going digital,
security is the key concern for it.

Understanding E-Banking Industry

Recent government initiatives like ‘Digital India’, ‘Demonetization’, etc. have brought the boom in
digital world. Large number of transactions and payments are made online, due to which more focus
needs to be given to strengthening financial cyber security. Banking sector is extremely vulnerable to
cyber frauds. This sector has seen various frauds and cyber attacks.

The recent outbreak of global cyber attack, done by a malware known as ‘WannaCry ransomware’
locks access to user files and, in an on-screen message, demands a hefty payment in the virtual
currency ‘Bitcoin’ in order to decrypt the files. The malware is being said to have a potential to hack
ATMs and encrypt user details during online transactions. Such malicious viruses if not countered on
time, can cause unimaginable loss to economies and fail the consumer’s trust in banking, especially
online banking.

Recent Steps by RBI to Curb Cyber Threats

To ensure the safety and security, RBI and government come up with some security measures. RBI
notified the framework for cyber security in banks to minimize the cyber frauds. The framework will
enable bank to disallow the unauthorized access to networks and database, protection of customer’s
data and cyber crisis management plan. In the digital world, attackers are finding their way to theft
and damage the data. Government needs to adopt some measures to implement the strict security
guidelines.

“I dream of the digital india where cyber security becomes

an integral part of our national security” – PM, Narendra Modi

Women Entrepreneurs in India

The word ‘entrepreneur’ has mostly been synonymous with men. In the 21st century though, things
are changing and many successful female entrepreneurs have emerged. These women are becoming
role models and are flourishing in their respective fields. Their confidence and refusal to be dominated
by men has inspired many more women across the country. These women have been acknowledged in
their respective fields and have even received accolades for their work.

In layman’s terms, entrepreneurship is basically running your own business. The person who has an
idea, and who executes this idea and makes sure that it functions smoothly is called an entrepreneur.
Entrepreneurs can also helm a business and make sure it runs smoothly. Some of the most famous
women entrepreneurs in India are Chanda Kocchar, (MD and CEO, ICICI Bank), Simone Tata
(Chairperson, Trent Limited), Neelam Dhawan (MD, HP-India), Naina Lal Kidwai (Country Head- HSBC
Bank), and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (Chairman and MD, Biocon).

The rapid strides that these women have taken over the past few decades have shown us the calibre
that all women inherently possess. Indian women are coming out from the daily routine of their lives
inside the doors of their houses. Multitasking women all over the country balance their work, home and
family perfectly. Family members too are helping out and supporting women to achieve successful
careers.
If all women decide to explore themselves and not limit their lives to certain jobs, then each one of
them can become a successful entrepreneur, working by their own rules and contently living their own
life. Indian women can achieve this dream and in the coming decades women will do brilliantly in so
called ‘male-domains’ as well.
