The document discusses the conceptual design of a PLEM structure including design assumptions, strength and fatigue calculations for structure and pipe members, and calculations for the mudmat foundation.

Design assumptions included a wave height of 3.62m, wave return period of 5.48s, sea current velocity of 2.42m/s, seabed depth of 19.6m, soil conditions, design life of 25 years, and design codes used.

Strength was calculated based on AISC-360 with allowable stress design. Fatigue was calculated based on ABS code and referred to ABS S-N curves for non-tubular details in seawater. Parameters like design life, fatigue design factor, and stress ranges were defined.

STRENGTH AND FATIGUE CALCULATON FOR STRUCTURE MEMBERS :

The strength analysis will be conducted based on AISC-360 Code with allowable stress design method. The
strength analysis result will be represented as strength ratio (the ratio between total stress caused by combined
design loads and allowable stress of the structure’s members).

The fatigue calculation is based on ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) Code, Guide for Fatigue Assessment of
Offshore structure. The end result is maximum principal stress range based on total cycles in design life. Since
the structure will be designed by using non-tubular members, the parameters will refer to ABS S-N Curves for
Non-Tubular Details in Seawater with Cathodic Protection.

STRENGTH AND FATIGUE CALCULATON FOR PIPE MEMBERS :

The strength analysis will be conducted based on ASME B31.4 Code with allowable stress design method. The
strength analysis result will be represented as strength ratio (the ratio between total stress caused by combined
design loads and allowable combined stress of the pipe). Internal pressure of the pipe will not be considered in
the structure model in order to get critical result.

The fatigue calculation is based on ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) Code, Guide for Fatigue Assessment of
Offshore structure. The end result is maximum principal stress range based on total cycles in design life. The
parameters will refer to ABS S-N Curves for Tubular Intersection Joint in Seawater with Cathodic Protection.

ON BOTTOM STABILITY ANALYSIS :
The analysis will be conducted for the PLEM foundation (mudmat foundation) to verify the following design
issues :
‐ The gravity base has sufficient on bottom weight to prevent uplift. For simplified analysis, the gavity
based will be judged as safe base due to uplift if there are no tension forces acting on each spring
supports. But, if tension force will be occurred, continuous analysis for uplift and overturning effect will
be proceed.
‐ The soil has sufficient bearing capacity to resist vertical loads from the PLEM. The allowable bearing
capacity will considering settlement effect and safety factor 3.
‐ The PLEM has enough weight in water to prevent sliding with safety factor 2.
