Company Picnic Game Ideas: 1. Horseshoes
Company picnics are about bonding and relaxation. You have the basket, the sandwiches, your
co-workers, and the games. Of course, these activities arent limited to just Truth or Dares or
Charades. Here are the fifteen coolest company picnic game ideas to spice up your outdoor
party. Just keep an eye on that basket.
1. Horseshoes
This game is the staple of company picnics, played by two players, who throw horseshoes to a stake
stuck on the ground. Whoever gets his horseshoe ring around, or closest, to the stake wins. The
distances vary from 30 to 40 feet.
2. Tug-of-War
All you need is a long piece of strong rope, and the athleticism in you. Make a knot in the middle of
the rope; draw a marker on the ground. Divide into 2 teams and let the pulling begin. The team that
pulls the other team the furthest away from the marker in the middle wins.
6. Spew
Another silly game that will surely make you laugh. Each player puts an Alka-Seltzer under their
tongue, and drinks a cup of Sprite, or 7-Up. The player who holds the bubbles in his mouth the
longest wins. Be ready to stand back shout Yuck!
11. Gargle
Split your co-workers into groups. Show one member a famous song then have him gulp water.
While gargling it, he sings the tune of the song. The other members have to guess it correctly.
12. Connect
A game of quick-thinking. Form the group into a circle. The first person will say a word (like dog)
then point another person in the circle who needs to respond with a related (or opposite) word (say,
puppy) within five seconds. If they go beyond the time limit and theyre out. The last man standing
wins.
One of those wired company picnic games. The night before, soak shirts in
water, wring them, fold, and put them into the freezer. The next day, use a large ice bucket to
preserve the frozen shirts. Hand each to a member, have them unfold the shirts, and wear them.
The first to do it wins.
14. Hip-Hip-Hooray!
From a game show in the Philippines. A moderator will point randomly a member who will yell Hip-
Hip! while bending over; clapping his hands between his two legs. Then the second person
(randomly chosen, too) will shout Hooray! with his hands raised. The game will go on continuously.
The person who shouts the wrong phase, or does the wrong action is out.
3. Treasure hunt
Print out nature hunt sheets containing pictures of common outdoor objects like leaves,
feathers and pebbles. The hunters simply have to track down all the items on their list.
The first one to gather everything and return them to base wins!
4. Blanket volleyball
Turn those picnic blankets into a fun game. Divide into two teams and use two blankets
to launch a ball from one team to the other, just like volleyball.
5. Im going on a picnic
Sit everyone down in a circle, and begin by saying Im going on a picnic and Im
bringing _____. The next person repeats the phrase, but has to remember your object as
well as saying their own. Continue going round, with each person adding an object until
people start forgetting. Whoever can remember the most wins.
6. Two truths one lie
Get to know everyone at the picnic by taking turns saying two truths and one lie about
yourself. The others will have to guess which ones a lie, based on your fibbing skills and
what they already know about you.
7. Hot potato hide and seek
Rather than having one person spend ages finding everyone, the person whos found
becomes the next seeker. Use a tennis ball as a hot potato to signify the person seeking.
8. Fruit bowl
Everyone stands in a circle and gets labelled with one of four fruits (you might have three
bananas, three oranges, three pears and three apples, for example). Shout out the fruits at
random, and everyone whos labelled with that fruit has to run and switch places with
another. Shout out fruit bowl and EVERYONE has to run and find a new place. Theres
no winners, but lots of fun!
Sponge Race
After dividing your group into teams, direct them to stand in rows. Place a
bucket with water and a sponge in the front of the row and an empty bucket at
the back. The goal is for each team to transport the water using the sponge
from the front of the line to the back. The last person in line squeezes the
filled sponge into the bucket and runs to the front of the line, where the task
begins again. Set a timer and the team that manages to pass the most water
before the time is up wins. For added fun, have the team members pass the
sponge over their head and down the line.
Newspaper Press
This fun game pairs up team members for a race with a newspaper page held
between them as they run to the goal. Begin by creating teams and then
pairing up team members. Provide single newspaper pages for each team.
The goal is to run to a finish line by while holding the newspaper page
between them no hands! If a pair drops their newspaper page, they must
return to the start line and begin again. The team that has all their pairs
complete the race first wins.
Sack Race
Sack races are popular picnic past times. The original game used burlap feed
sacks. Alternatively, large pillowcases work well. The team members must
stand in the sack and hop down to a designated place, turn around, and hop
back to their teams line. The first team to get all the players to complete the
race wins.
Quick-Change Relay
Collect clothing that is large enough to be put on over the players own
clothes. Create a pile for each team. Players must race to the pile of clothes,
put all the clothes on, turn around, race back and take the clothes off. The
next player in the line puts the clothes on and races back to the starting point.
The first team to have everyone complete dressing and undressing wins. For
added fun, make sure there are buttons, zippers, and ties that must be
fastened.
Shoe Hunt
This relay race works very well for a large group. Have everyone take off one
shoe and put it in a large pile. Have your teams line up an equal distance
away from the pile. One-by-one team members run to the pile and find their
shoe, put it on and run back to their teams line. The game is over when
everyone from one team manages to complete the race.
Dance Off
To have a picnic dance off, all you need is a boom box and a child-appropriate dance
mix CD. Ask the kids to form a giant circle. As the music plays, have the children turns
entering the center of the ring to show off their best dance moves. Encourage everyone
to cheer for the moves they really like; the person with the most applause per song
wins. Adults and teens may even want to get in on this one. Alternatively, you could
play dancing musical chairs. Place your chairs in a circle, with one less chair than the
number of kids playing. Turn the music on and the kids have to bust a move while
circling around the outside of the chairs. When you turn the music off, each child must
race to take a seat. Whoever is left without a chair is out. Remove one chair each time
a child is out. Whoever claims the final seat at the end is declared the winner.
