    Reflection

    When someone confronts me with the inquiry of whether or not I have determined

    my future career, my initial response would be resorting to every young childs dream,

    which is to be famous. However, the more your mind develops, and the more you

    progress towards higher education, such trivial ideas must be put aside and replaced with

    practicality, which can be determined with the amount of effort one has put into their

    primary education. It must be replaced with a more specific objective, one that is

    contrived from ones natural abilities and the work they are willing to put in to achieve

    that goal.

    Therefore, returning to my original thesis, my initial response, after being

    deliberated upon for a rather extensive period of time, would be to pursue a degree in pre-

    medical studies, afterwards receiving an education in a more specific field of surgery. My

    reasons are simple; this career path will give me the challenge that will test my abilities to

    that point where one can feel they have achieved true success. It will also satiate my

    desire for knowledge, and the contribution to society is something I look for in my

    careers. This career overlaps with the evolving art of science, in which I also find a great

    deal of interest. It will allow me to interact with many new discoveries, and it tests my

    ability to provide treatment for these medical anomalies. One may recall the separation of

    the Siamese twins, which presented Dr. Benjamin Carson the situation I too one day hope

    to encounter, analyze and resolve.

    This opportunity to volunteer at Yale New Haven Hospital will give me access to

    experience the working environment of the career I plan on entering. It will give me the

    chance to interact with those who have followed the path I plan on taking, and it gives me

    the possibility of communicating with those who also want to pursue the same career.

    This position at Yale New Haven Hospital will enable me to exercise some of my prior

    experience, and it will also facilitate my ability to observe and learn. Some of my talents

    that qualify me for this position are that I am an incredibly quick learner, with the added

    openness to receive and apply correction. I also work fairly quickly, and can get a task

    done in an efficient and effective manner.
