Minutes of our Practicum Orientation

1. 29 per batch (1st batch april 25-may 13 2nd batch may 16-june 3)
2. district 1 have 10 lawyers
district 2 have 11 lawyers
3. nature of work? -busiest task is notarization
4. smile always. be patient. youre in the government office.
5. notarization requirements:
valid id
cedula
6. what if no valid id? or cedula? - ask the lawyer if its ok or not
7. if student, for instance, for exception of income tax: student id is ok
8. give evaluation form (for services rendered by PAO) some people dont know that youre an
OJT, so your acts will affect the institution
9. judicial affidavit: talk to clients to get the facts
10. in case of doubt, just check the internet (if your shy to ask)
11. pleading in court: take note: not so dramatic, only ministerial. but go to court and stamp as
received and bring back to lawyer
12. usually hearing of lawyer 3x a week (either iloilo or out of town) you can try to insist to go out of
town, if the lawyer does not invite you.
13. have initiative to get the schedule of cases/ hearing of your lawyer: prepare the sched of your
lawyer a day before (most probably, they ll appreciate it)
14. if there are clients, ask whether they already have an appointment with the lawyer.
15. during legal counseling, ask if you can sit and listen. esp during mediation, if amicable
settlement could be made, why not.
16. position paper, for instance, search the latest case of the supreme court
17. we have time card. start at 8am. you can go at 730am, but not earlier, cause time will not be
counted.
18. no noon break (how bout lunch?) you can do the quickie. haha. you can have pack lunch, or
eat at carinderia. if youll lunch out (need to log in and log out)
19. 5pm time out, if inquest duty, ends at 7pm (only 2 lawyers a day)
20. if home work, lawyers can decide how many hours to give. case to case basis
21. what attire? dress code is strict.
22. for women:
23. you can wear slacks or skirts
not allowed to wear maong pants
24. for boys:
25. no tshirt
you can wear polo
26. no rubber shoes
no sandals
27. for graduating students, theyre at prosecutors office
28. at the end of 120 hours, evaluation form given by lawyer. the lawyer assigned to us gives our
grade.
29. typically, evaluation consists of:

2 panctuality

32. make a daily journal, dean may require it at the end of our ojt.
33. can you go out to eat snacks? yes just buy at the canteen.
34. if youll go outside hall of justice, even at atrium, inform your lawyer.
35. if you cannot render 8 hours, inform your lawyer before hand, (start of your ojt) for instance you
can only render 4 hours every afternoon,mwf. give your schedule. negotiate with them
36. if cannot finish before school year starts, you can continue whenever you are vacant.
remember, the office is just there. But, it is preferable to finish early! And, remember, your
support system is your batchmate
