The headlight of the e-up! does not differ from that of the up! in terms of
hardware. The difference can be found in the way the lamps in the headlight are
activated. The lamp for the daylight running light in the headlight is not activated
in the e-up!; only the lamp for the side light (5 W). Two curved LED lights are
installed in the bumper; they have three LED lamps, each with three watts. The
LED daylight running light is switched off when terminal 58 is activated.
6
The rear lights of the e-up! doe not differ from those of the up!. The high-
mounted brake light is white and features 16 red LEDs.
The lamp in the tail light is identical to that in the tail light and rear fog light,
where only the 4 W lamp is activated.
7
The dash panel insert of the e-up! is based on the highline dash panel insert of
the VW Beetle. For the e-up!, the display instruments and the multifunction
display (MFI) have been subjected to electric drive-specific modifications.
Next to the centrally arranged speed display, the battery charge level and the
percentage performance indication (power meter) are displayed in an analogue
display.
8

The maps and more portable navigation and infotainment system J982 is
produced by Garmin, and has been since week 22/13. Visually and in terms of
function, it is similar to the familiar maps and more made by Navigon, but new
functions have been added.
The reset button familiar from the Navigon device on the underside of the device
has been omitted. A hard reset on a Garmin device is performed as follows:
Switch off the device, press one finger on the display while the device is
switched off, keep finger pressed on the display and activate the device; wait
until the displayed time has elapsed; the device then performs the reset.
11
Maps and more features live services that provide, for example, information on
the current weather, traffic jams and speed cameras, and a local search for
points of interest or businesses, for example, with the assistance of an internet
connection.
For this purpose, it is necessary to connect a data-capable mobile telephone
with Bluetooth tethering support to maps and more.
A help function for this connection process is displayed when the live services
are called.
The sources for the live services are the "yelp.com" search engine, the Navteq
traffic information and speed camera service, and Garmin's own weather
forecast.
12
The Think Blue Trainer in maps and more has been expanded to include the
fuel-saving tips and analysis functions. The "fuel-saving tips" / "energy-saving
tips" sub-menu uses charts to give the driver hints on how to drive his up! in a
more fuel-saving (energy-saving) and therefore more environmentally friendly
way.
The "status" sub-menu displays the level of fuel efficiency with fictitious flyballs
and the blue circle. The motto: the more blue you see, the better and more
efficient. The driver receives blue score points for thrifty driving.
In the "analysis" sub-menu, the driving style can be analysed by means of the
blue score points or the average fuel consumption over time.
13
The maps and more system in the e-up! and the Eco-up! features multi-stop
route planning. That means that the current electrical (CNG) range is considered
when the route is planned. Charging options (CNG fuel stations) contained in
the POI data are integrated; otherwise, approximate locations are specified, and
the vehicle must be charged (fuelled) in the vicinity of these locations. The
charging duration during charge stops is included in the overall journey time and
also displayed separately.
14
The maps and more system in the e-up! features a new range display. It is
possible to display the simple electrical range, the range with consideration of
the return journey, and a combination of both in a kind of fried egg display on the
map.
15
16
Apart from the electrical air conditioner compressor, the refrigerant circuit of the
e-up! is identical to the refrigerant circuit of the up! with combustion engine.
A single-zone Climatronic is installed 100% in all markets. There are no different
variants or country codes.
New components in the e-up! are:
Heater and air conditioning unit
Electric air-conditioner compressor
High-voltage heater element
Operating and control unit
Fresh air blower - activation via LIN bus
The stationary air conditioning function is also new. It can be activated via a
smartphone app or via Maps+More.

18
The electric air conditioner compressor is installed at the front, right of the
electric drive motor.
It is designed as a scroll compressor and R134a is intended as the refrigerant.
The electric air conditioner compressor would have to be completely overhauled
for the e-up!.
The challenge is to reduce the effects of the rotating masses in the compressor,
both acoustically as well as vibration-specifically.
In the case of a combustion engine, they are masked by the engine. In the case
of an electric vehicle, they are not masked by the working noise of the engine.
Measures are necessary, such as fine balancing and mass reduction of the
rotating components .
19
The high-voltage heater element is necessary because no combustion engine which
supplies waste heat is available.
The heater element heats up the coolant mixture in the coolant circuit. It is activated by
the Climatronic J255 control unit via a LIN data bus. The input and output temperature
of the coolant are both measured by a temperature sensor. The high-voltage heater
element sends the status data in a LIN message as feedback to the control unit for the
Climatronic J255.
Technical data:
Power: 5.5 kW
Activation: 0-100%
Input voltage: 180-450 V
Max. input current: 30 A
Interfaces: LIN 2.0 with self-diagnosis
AC/DC insulation: 100 M

The high-voltage heater element, the heat exchanger for heater and the coolant
pump for the high-temperature circuit are integrated in the high-temperature
circuit.
The supply is via the connection to the coolant circuit of the engine. The return
is via a 2/2 way valve and a non-return valve with 1.5 mm restrictor back to the
coolant expansion tank.
The coolant pump for the high-temperature circuit is controlled upon request of
the air conditioning control unit according to the demand. Activation takes place
between 0 and 100%.

21
The stationary air conditioning can be activated as immediate air conditioning
via the smartphone app.
The maximum running period is 30 minutes in charging mode and 10 minutes in
battery mode.
It is not possible to operate the air conditioning system during stationary air
conditioning. No controls light up and the buttons are not active. The nominal
temperature, the cooling or heating function as well as the red or blue vehicle
discs are displayed in the smartphone app in the event of control via CarNet.
22
Stationary air conditioning can be activated by means of timer programming via
Maps+More.
The request from the charge manager is controlled by the control unit for
Climatronic.
The nominal temperature and departure time are sent by the charge manager
as temperature control request in the control unit for the Climatronic.
Furthermore, the provision of the energy required for air conditioning for the
high-voltage heater element or air conditioner compressor is released by the
charge manager to the control unit for the Climatronic.
The maximum power consumption for stationary air conditioning is limited by the
charge manager to 3.3 kW.
Stationary air conditioning is independent of the selected driving mode.
It is not possible to operate the air conditioning system during stationary air
conditioning. No controls light up and the buttons are not active.
If stationary air conditioning was activated via Maps+More, any other timer
entries which may still be stored are ignored. Any changes made here via
Maps+More are not synchronised with the smart phone.
23
The air conditioning system has a target time logic which automatically
calculates the air conditioning duration.
The control unit for the Climatronic is woken by the charge manager one hour
before the desired departure time in order to calculate the required air
conditioning duration and report it back to the charge manager. The air
conditioning control unit then returns to sleeping mode.
At the calculated starting time, the charge manager wakes the air conditioning
control unit and stationary air conditioning begins. The lead time takes up to
max. 30 minutes, the lag time is always 15 minutes.
No stationary air conditioning takes place if the charge level of the battery is
below 20%. Only once the charge level of the battery exceeds 20% can the
customer start stationary air conditioning. In this case, it is indicated to the
customer that charging with simultaneous stationary air conditioning is
restricted.
Starting the air conditioning system must be confirmed by the customer.
Only charging or air conditioning can take place when charging with alternate
current (AC charging).
Air conditioning can only take place during the charging process when charging
with direct current (DC charging). (The charging station is switched off as soon
as the high-voltage battery is charged.)
24
In battery mode, stationary air conditioning starts 10 minutes before the
programmed departure time. No stationary air conditioning takes place if the
minimum charging capacity of the battery is fallen short of. The minimum
charging capacity can be adjusted by the customer.
25
The button for E735 driving modes can be found in the centre console in front of
the shift lever.
26
The windscreen heating is implemented as a full-surface windscreen heating
with heating wires installed in the shape of a trapezium. This ensures that the
entire surface can be kept free from condensation and ice.
The windscreen heating is activated with the switch for windscreen heating E ,
which is connected to the onboard supply control unit. The heating duration is
time-limited. Deactivation takes place by the J519 onboard supply control unit
after max. 4 minutes. If necessary, it can be switched on immediately with the
button for windscreen heating E.
The windscreen heating can also be switched off by measures taken by
the charge management!
27
The windscreen heating can also be activated by the control unit for the
Climatronic J255 if the due point* exceeds a defined value. The temperature
and humidity on the windscreen are registered and the windscreen heating
activated if necessary by the humidity sender for the G260 air conditioning
system.
In "AUTO" mode, the windscreen heating is automatically activated by the
Climatronic in different driving and operating situations. This may make more
sense energetically than activating the high-voltage air conditioner compressor
of the air conditioning system. This function can be interrupted at any time by
pressing the button for the windscreen heating.
