Sastra Guru-Tattva Is Valued Even More Than Ishvara-Tattva (Aseity, His Nature)
Sastra Guru-Tattva Is Valued Even More Than Ishvara-Tattva (Aseity, His Nature)
Sastra Guru-Tattva Is Valued Even More Than Ishvara-Tattva (Aseity, His Nature)
2. My son, this (my) nature is immense. I am present everywhere. These words you hear
now are the words of God.
3. In order to punish the sinners God sends suffering, grief, torments, diseases, etc.
Sometimes, exhausted by diseases or suffering, man, like the elephant-leader,
disregarding any obstacles, starts to pray. In this way he is liberated from suffering
and finds belief in God. Thus, the grace of God is contained in His punishment.
4. Therein, where there is temple of God, there is the statue of God; there one partakes of
nectar from His lotus feet.
5. Worship of the stone statue is the first stage of the ladder to God, a road to the training
of mind.
6. Because of own stupidity man considers ishta-mantra (mantra of the selected
patronizing deity) to be merely a combination of sounds, and Gods statue to be
merely a stone. A spiritual teacher often estranges from such man.
7. Who offers his ownership to God, who uses his knowledge for virtuous deeds, who
speaks for the benefit of others; he will become tilaka-ornament on Gods forehead.
8. When sadhak (observing, performing, practicing spiritual activity) takes control of his
senses and his own Self, completely confides in his teacher, 5 million times reads
mantra, he meets God.
9. Even years of praying do not bring such benefit as feeding the hungry, and comforting
the tears of the one who cries.
10.God is patit-pavan (correcting the sinners). He annihilates all of the sins. By all means
He will correct you. You need not be afraid of the memory of your sins. He will
through you into fire and all of your sins will turn into ashes.
11.Most people in this world are sinful. Direct your body to help other, to make everyone
happy.
12.Grace of saint people, mahatmas (mahatma great soul), which has no cause and no
passion, is granted to each according to ones inclinations, diligence and needs. Its
amount cannot be conditioned by the quantity of prasad that you offer.
13.My son, in order to find God it is necessary to have a pure soul. This will help to reach
material welfare. Leading your life in accordance with the instructions from shastra,
try to take all of the sadness and suffering on the chin. In due time this will take you
to God.
14.My son, Guru-tattva has a great significance. It is extremely mysterious. Owing to its
grace it is possible to grasp understanding of both worlds (i.e. material and spiritual).
The natural state of yoga is also conditioned by the favor of your spiritual teacher. In
sastra guru-tattva is valued even more than ishvara-tattva (aseity, His nature).
However disciples aptitude is conditioned by the favor of his spiritual teacher.
15.My son, if you board on a boat with me, then you should take inside a bundle of all
your earthly anxieties, as they are no more your concern.
1/34
16.God is compassionate to all. His natural grace flows constantly, as the rain does. So
what should a man ask God for? Then he forgets about a prayer. This is a greatest
tragedy.
17.My son, when my body ceases to exist, then without any fuss put it directly into
Yamuna. My eternal grace covers all of my bhaktas. (Sri Baba left an order to his
followers, so that as far as possible they should refuse taking meals with onion, garlic,
beans, vegetable marrow, and observe ekadashi fasting). Dont give way to despair,
my devotees. I will come to existence again.
18.Disobedience to a spiritual teacher, censuring Veda and Shastra, distrust to the words of
acharya (aharya spiritual leader, guru, founder), treatment of the name of God and
His glory as empty words, commitment of evil deeds, behind a prayer, these all are
sins, a deliberate crime. Souls of such worshippers with never purify.
19.He, who concentrates his mind on God, on paramatma, which is always present in his
soul, has performed ablution in all of the holy places, like king Bali has given
presents to all honest brahmans, has received benefits from ten million sacrificial
offerings, has also received benefits from a righteous divine service, has pleased his
forefathers with the offering of delicious food, has helped them to reach divine
planets.
20.Considering the names of God contains a wonderful power. With His involvement a
soul can see the divine light, all of its vices subside, and gradually it receives the
sensation of being whole with paramatma. With the power of the name of God many
rishi (wise man, prophet of truth), muni (wise man, ascetic, a man who keeps silence)
Dhruva (epic hero), Prahlada (king of demons) and other bhaktas of God have been
liberated from reincarnation. In the age of kali there is only one way to receive
purification, and it is considering the names of God and meditating upon Him. Kali
yuga is only based on the name, that is why you should always remember this, and
always righteously consider the names of God.
21.Soul should also be considered as light, concealed by the five sheaths of rough physical
body. Likewise, taking into account the three states of body wakefulness, sleep and
deep sleep without dreams it should be considered pure, invariable and eternal.
22.He who celebrates humility, and also he, whose humility is celebrated by his devotees,
is a magic sound Om, which contains all of the names of God.
23.So you should gain control of your body, and give priority to the sound Om, and also
study it with diligence. Then God will appear like the hidden flame.
24.When you are free from your Self and My, you will reach closer to God. This is a
true delight.
25.Hand over to God everything you own. You will see that the day will come, when God
gives you all. If a believer truly relays on God, then He will undoubtedly preserve this
support.
2/34
26.Inferior social casts spring from the lotus feet of Vishnu and belong to Ganga (River
Ganga; Goddess of the River Ganga). Thus, from the point of view of shastra, all of
them are brothers of Ganga.
27.Gyana (knowledge), karma (activity) and worship of God are the three parts of whole.
Theres no principal difference among them. Gyana and karma are the integral
properties of strong faith. Similarly inevitable is the obstacle on the way to get
knowledge, and namely, concentration on the benefits that are generated by activity,
which is also the basis to worship of God. Unavoidability of karma has been proved,
but through it one can also see the capacity for devotion and rejection. The difference
is only in the point of view. What, from the viewpoint of antarmukhi (turned inwards,
thought-immersed, meditating of divinity), is inconceivable (has no form), that, from
the viewpoint of baharmukhi (turned outwards, inclined to outward consciousness)
has many forms. That is why both yogi (who is practicing yoga; a disciple in any
field; an advocate for union with God) and gyani (sage; the one who has knowledge
of God) equally receive enjoyment. Yes, mostly it is possible to say, that the greatest
achievement of bhakta is reaching the highest bliss and that the finite goal of gyana
and yoga is the same. Following virtaka (thought) and vichara (thinking) there is a
state of bliss. Virtaka is doubt and hesitation. By immersing into virtaka, yogi learns
the properties of substances, and by immersing into vichara his vision can reach the
soul, the essence of the five universal elements and their primarily forms.
28.A word contained in Self, Self contained in mind, mind contained in mahatattva
(principle of mind or buddhi; Hiranyagarbha or Brahma), mahatattva, contained in
the soul are the means of reaching svarupa.
29.Exploitation of human body has only one reason, which is listening to the word of God
and, by following it, developing the ability to get knowledge of Him. He who
develops this ability will reach Him.
30.The man of truth experiences neither joy nor sorrow. By becoming chaitanya-svarupa
(aware of own true nature), he fully immerses into a primordial and natural state of
bliss.
31.Human being is an embodiment of love, mercy, worship and bliss.
32.I saw false differences, and in order to show union in their temporarily distinction, I
have presently started to consider Narayana-mantra (mantra, addressed to Lord
Narayana, i.e. Krishna) and Rama-mantra (mantra, addressed to Lord Rama)
together. I would like to consider them right now.
33.Taking a meal or milk one should accentuate the right side; and while drinking water
one should accentuate the left side. Otherwise the body will get sick.
34.When one gets to know own nature, the veil of maja falls and he can see his own divine
nature. This is called svabhava. One can grasp it by glorifying the names of God,
concentrating upon Him (meditation), and reading mantras. One, who comprehends
it, becomes bhakta. Svabhava transforms into love. When it opens, it naturally helps
mind to penetrate the realm of soul. Then mind starts into motion. This is the mystery
of prema-bhakti (overwhelming love of God). When this state is achieved, synna,
3/34
50.Earthly benefits are distributed among men according to their deeds in the past life. In
turn, they are directly based upon actions (karma). Thus, earthly happiness depends
upon actions.
51.My son, like forge bellows fan fire, with each breath fan fire of bhakti (devotion, love
of God). All sins will be burned in it.
52.Until mind is connected to Self, the soul cannot purify. Try to keep mind connected to
the soul.
53.Sharanagati (devotion) means being satisfied with own income in full faith and trust,
accepting them as His grace (faith + trust + satisfaction = Gods grace).
54.Considering every action as service to God, and consequences of these actions as
prasad, being equally truthful and decent with everyone, getting rid of anger and
greed is service to God. (every action + consequences of actions as prasad + equal
treatment for each and everyone + liberation from anger and greed = service to God)
55.My son, I am omniscient. There is nothing that could conceal from me.
56.When the sick drinks water, blesses with my name, he will be healed.
57.A person gets benefit from yoga in accordance to his abilities. As the light of sun rays
he absorbs different knowledge corresponding to his abilities.
58.Friendship with a happy person helps to get rid of envy. Sympathy for the unfortunate
help to get rid of desire to treat others badly. Meeting with a well-mannered person
and efforts to be like him help to get rid of jealousy. Ignoring sinners helps to get rid
of anger, aversion, etc. This is the life code of a spiritual disciple (sadhaka).
59.You should take meal seated, quickly finding a place to stay in private and removing it
from the sight of the others. You should eat in silence. You should eat food faced to
the East, while drink faced to the West. Seated in front of your meal you should bow
hands fold.
60.Energy of God rules the world. He endows His bhaktas with His grace in accordance to
their actions. However, the energy of a spiritual teacher us a boundless ocean of
sympathy and grace.
61.When sadhak (yogi, muni) tires of constant penetration into the essence of divine, of
studying the Scriptures like Ramayana, and his mind fails to think, paramatma
endows him with such powerful mind and gift of prophecy, that having grasped its
(paramatma) nature he finds wealth and all of these difficult tasks will be completed
easily.
62.As the daylight prevents from seeing the stars, so beyond the dazzling light of avidyamaya (ignorance, lack of knowledge; power of illusion in Brahman) it is not possible
to see God. The dual nature of joy and sorrow, emerging as a result of desires and
hostility, is interpreted by the majority of people as ignorance.
63.But he, who is fond of meditation, receives the highest grace of paramatma, which
destroys the root of ignorance in his heats with the light of knowledge. Such bhakta
can see the nature of paramatma and he is filled with it.
5/34
64.That is why bhakti is the way, following which with the grace of God, it is possible to
conceive His mysterious nature. With mere knowledge of Veda, Purana and other
Scriptures, or merely studying these texts it is not only difficult but also impossible to
conceive the nature of paramatma.
65.(It is important to remember) that God is the ocean of mercy. He cannot bear the
suffering of his bhaktas. (You are not taking off the veil) God reveals himself.
66. These Self and mid are the riches of God. Dont consider them to be yours, give them
out under His protection take! Me Self is Yours, my mind belongs to You.
67.All of the intrigue is in Self, isnt it? It will not remain yours, and will not disturb you.
With the grace of God it will come to the state of rest and then he will open up to you.
68.Going deep into meditation, try to receive the grace of all-loving God. Undoubtedly
you will receive His grace. And when you will receive it, God will come into your
consciousness.
69.Do not give way to despair. Concentrate upon the prayer. He brings closer those, who
follow this road.
70.Do not worry over changes that occur in the world. Taken prisoners of earthly joys and
sorrows, we turn away from God, while He never turns his back on us.
71.Everything happens because its the will of God and will continue to happen
notwithstanding your desire. Theres no one who could delay the world. That is why
it is necessary to completely turn away from the world sansara (material world, the
Universe, perishable world; the worlds of continuous reincarnation) and address God
as often as possible.
72.If you remain under the influence of the world sansara, then you will have to laugh and
cry. Try to come under the fascination of illusion as little as possible. This is wisdom.
73.It is wonderful when the spiritual teacher guides the activity. The object of meditation
can be God, guru, some definite object, and also the one who meditates.
74.Meditation is one for the forms for concentration of soul and intellectual modification.
In meditation of God it is important to have concentration both on His name, and His
form. Concentration upon the name of God leads to concentration upon His form.
Communication with bhaktas and grace of the spiritual teacher are very important in
order to develop the capacity of concentration upon God. Without these two things it
is impossible to reach bliss.
75.If during meditation on the image of God you will perceive several images, you should
see them as ishta (object of desire, selected ideal, a special form of God) or a spiritual
teacher.
76.Meditation on God should be considered the supreme means of worship of Him. But
upon one condition: devotion should be kept only towards one of the images, while
the rest should be considered to be merely variations of it.
77.In meditation thoughts and feelings are everything. (Feeling is the primarily image of
thought) When once you experience joy in meditation, then sattva-guna will start to
6/34
develop (one of the three guna, symbolizing something light and bright, like for
example, kindness and sanctity). Development of sattva-guna leads to concentration,
whereas concentration is love and God himself.
78.When sattva-guna is developed w start to perceive all of our earthly duties as happiness
and fulfilling the most laborious tasks brings joy.
79.The birth of sattva-guna is the revelation of God.
80.When a strong bond to the object of mediation is developed, there are no rules left.
81.Bhava-samadhi also originates from concentration upon the object of meditation. In
this process Self, speech, breath, and body come at rest.
82.Gyana, karma, bhakti, religious ceremonies, and divine service, all sorts of worship of
God, facilitate spiritual development, whereas, meditation upon God is
the best method of all and the best spiritual practice.
83.Regular study of Veda is also one of the types of meditation, as they also provide
knowledge about the true nature of the object of meditation and help developing
attachment to His qualities.
84.During Kaliyuga kirtany have a great importance (celebrating the name and glory of
God). During kirtana chanting the power of sound is perfect. Imagination weakens
also.
85.If bhakta fails to find time to study Veda, rituals and other spiritual activity, and also
lacks intelligence because of ignorance, he will find the remedy in glorifying the
names of God. It is very important to go deeply into this practice. Sadhak starts to
rhythmically glorify the names of Gods, thereby developing animadika (animadika
the supernatural ability to reduce body weight, one of eight Siddhi supernatural
abilities).
86.He, who has no self-confidence, has no confidence in God.
87.When glorifying the names God or a spiritual teacher, bhakta and the name of God
merge together. Kirtana is the flame of word. With the help of kirtana the body
becomes brahman (one possessing knowledge, bliss, and the absolute) and achieves
such fortune, that even God is indebted to him.
88.Whatever states are mind, speech and body of djiva (living being), mind should always
remember God, speech should be continuously directed to glorify His names, and
body should be guided to perform the divine service. This is worship of God.
89.All universal knowledge is contained in Gayatri (a type of verse for Veda writing; the
most sacred Hindu mantra). At the same time Gayatri itself is part of all knowledge,
magnitude and purity of the world.
90.It is good to know Maja, but it is dangerous to challenge it, as it is very powerful.
Tearing away the veil of Maja it is possible to find the ability to see God. Maja is
only afraid of devotion to God.
7/34
91.When mind is diverted from everything and concentrated only upon God, then comes
the sense of sadhana (spiritual practice, perform rituals, etc.) and in this and
following incarnations all of desires are purified.
92.Main rituals that were performed in the past incarnation ensure a meeting with a good
spiritual teacher in this life. Otherwise it is very hard to receive a good spiritual
teacher.
93.It is hard to achieve renunciation of sensual pleasures, direct experience of the soul,
and sahedjavastha (supreme state, that has become natural and constant) without the
grace of spiritual teacher.
94.A word or name liberating from ignorance is called mantra. Thus, under the influence
of mantra and accelerated by it, human life becomes what it should be like.
95.There are three important kinds of faith: faith in oneself (self-confidence), faith in God
and faith in the grace of God.
96. God is Creator, not me, and all belongs to Him, not to me as this will penetrate your
consciousness, Self will retreat.
97.The most sacred place for pilgrimage is your own soul. It doesnt accept gifts from
anyone, while is content with what it gets conditioned by achievements in past
incarnations.
98.With this memory the soul becomes mature. Meditation helps to enforce this memory.
That is why meditation is also considered to be one of the types of yoga, as well as
dhyana-samadhi.
99.In the field of bhakti dhyana-samadhi is all, because a single moment of dhyanasamadhi brings infinite delight, which is even more than that, which is achieved in
yoga-samadhi. Also in the field of bhakti memories, continuous remembrance, or
memory repeating time after time, is a necessary element of meditation, i.e. it is a
primarily form of love. As love (of God) is developing feelings start to balance, and
gradually there will be no slightest hint of the difference between the meditating
person and the object of meditation. In this balanced state your breath will also slow
down and will become regular. This is called bhava-samadhi. In this state comes
liberation from the false identification of self with the body.
100. My son! Such is the sequence of earthly lives: love (of God) is developed through
meditation, then develops a desire to receive it, further one finds himself under the
influence of anger (extreme ignorance) this brings memory into ignorance. Ignorance
of memory causes destruction of intelligence, followed by complete destruction. But
all of the abovementioned states are only possible, when there is desire of benefits,
received from the object of worship, i.e. not desire fore the object itself (vishayakar
vritti), but to the benefits that it brings (phalakar vritti). Im telling that if there is
only yearning for the object of worship, then even the greatest sinner can receive
freedom from reincarnation, because in vishayakar vritti there is only the game of
senses, whereas in phalakar vritti there is desire for benefits and their utilization.
(Naturally Baba meant that it is out of question lest feelings, memories, meditation,
8/34
etc. should not even mention benefit. Computing benefit means the end of vishayakar
vritti. You should keep commitment to your spiritual teacher or God, remember,
practice meditation, cherish love, but do not consider any benefit in these activities).
101. (Baba continues) Those beasts and birds, which, like the saints, adhere to vishayakar
vritti are better than modern men. Vishayakar vritti means that meditation is merely
concentration upon the object and nothing more, neither concern for the body, nor
worry for the words in mantra and their meaning. There are only memories,
continuous memories, memory of the image, name, and nothing else.
102. Then body, breath and mind become whole. This is vishayakar vritti.
103. There may be a question: vishayakar vritti is free from concentration upon benefit but
still there are desires. Sri Baba says: Yes, my son! It is impossible to fully eradicate
desires, as they may appear in the form of phalasakti (desire to use benefits, results).
104. There are to ways to stop them. The first way is yoga, the second one is bhakti. In
yoga the object loses its qualities by merging into triputi (triad: observer sight
object). This eradicates desires as well.
105. In bhakti there is the following: the true nature of the object is separated from it. The
object of worship disappears, but the attachment to it cannot disappear. Gita says:
niraharasya dehinaha vishayaha vinivartante sarvadjanam (which means: by
separating the true nature from the object of worship, the soul continues to enjoy its
benefits).
106. (In this case) To the best of ones ability it is necessary to separate body and mind. I.e.
no need to concentrate upon neither physical needs, nor any of its particular activities,
as in both of the abovementioned cases mind develops attachment to the body.
107. If your mind will be directed towards the object of meditation, like the thick stream of
oil, then it will separate from the body on its own and cause kevalakumbha (sudden
breath-holding without prior inhale or exhale). Asana (pose, position) or ability to
perform pranayama (regulation and control of breathing) are yet another ways to stop
activity of the body. This practice of bhakti is called krija-yoga.
108. Thus, when ishta, or the object of worship, becomes the center of all desires there will
appear the ability for recollection of memories and meditation. When all of desires
and activities are put under control, what is left is knowledge, which is for bhakti the
form of aspiration for the image of God.
109. My son, there are four stages to reach bhakti: name, image, lila (divine games) and
dharma (pious way of life, as written in the Scriptures). In the majority of bhakti
trends these stages possess a great significance.
110. You need help of faith and trust for your spiritual activity. Thus, a spiritual teacher is
also an important link. At the first stage of spiritual activity, while you are reading the
mantra, given by the spiritual teacher, you have to go fully and deeply into the image
of your spiritual teacher. In order to do this you need a keen vision of a talented artist.
111. The proof of stable attention (in meditation) is what is in the kingdom of mind of
sadhaka: 1. The main start is meditation of guru-lila (of the works of spiritual
9/34
teacher). 2. At the second stage of spiritual activity feelings start tot melt, a feeling of
attachment to lila is developed, imagination ceases. 3. At the third stage of spiritual
activity one experiences the state of bliss. 4. At the fourth stage samarpana emerges
(gifting, offering, handing in, i.e. entrusting ones property to God), and the feeling of
love of ishta.
112. Life energy in the state of spiritual meditation should be directed inwards Self, which
will gear development of sattva-guna, and turn Self to the quiescent state. Ego of the
ordinary sadhaka submerges into the life energy, which causes development of
imagination, and also the ability to glorify the names of God.
113. A union of the soul and God is the final goal of bhakta. Achieving it without the grace
of the spiritual teacher is impossible either in the past, or in the present, or in the
future.
114. When mind if concentrated, then by cognition and thought (cognition is the simple
form of thought) it becomes stable.
115. In the field of bhakti communication with other bhakta and regular studies of Veda
also teach cognition and thought.
116. Shankaracharya writes about the rules of meditation: You should make your mind
stronger by keeping it at the point of concentration; you should control your feelings.
Keeping your body motionless, do not worry about its desires or needs. What use is
there in vain talk?
117. It has long become the custom: If a weapon is used for good, this is not considered to
be a sin. Thus, if a soldier, who fights at the border, has killed several people, he is
not regarded to be a killer. Quite the contrary, he is honored as a hero. However, if
somebody uses this weapon to kill, he is considered to be a sinner.
118. Only an objective, but not a subjective, view of things gives understanding of their
true nature.
119. What can one refuse in the world? Desire of wealth and lust. What is worthy of
being in the body energy. If theres so much pleasure in bursting it out, you should
think of how much more pleasure should be contained in keeping it inside. Energy is
life. When it disappears it is death.
120. Of all the ways to free from the three sins of the material world, meditating upon the
names of God is the most simple and accessible - namayvadeva sarasham
siddhantam sarvada shivam.
121. Only meditation of the wise men makes possible control over feelings and finding
paramatma.
122. When you do your daily duties thinking about Sri Narayana at every moment, you
can find God.
123. Listen, my son! With regards to other mantra, Shastra doesnt allow those, who are in
the state of ashoucha (desecration, a state of the family after childbirth or death of a
close relative. In this case they cannot touch strangers and involve into charitable
10/34
work for some time) to read them aloud or to themselves. Instead of benefit this will
only cause harm. But this doesnt cover celebration of the name of mantraradji (the
king of mantra) Lord Hari. The name of God Sri Narayana should be glorifies hands
raised and so loud to make those who chant and who listen experience the state of
bliss. You can consider the names of God in any position. As the sun doesnt need
help to clear the dark, and tiger doesnt need help to catch its prey, so sadhak
has a birth-given ability to glorify the names of God.
124. Kaliyuga cannot enter the house, in which the names of God are continuously
celebrated.
125. In each house where bhakta lives, glorify the names of God together with him and his
family. When you do this, faith and love of God will grow inside of you, as well as
mercy, purity, composure, patience, sense of equilibrium, tolerance, kindness,
knowledge, austerity, modesty and other virtues.
126. When a man repeats the names of God he is liberated from reincarnation, but when he
sings them aloud, he receives the right to set free the whole Universe from it. That is
why you should always repeat: Sri Rama, jaya Rama, jaya jaya Rama.
127. Self is disposed to deception and lies. It controls feelings and all are under its power.
It is the root of material progress and ever increasing desires. Through senses it
introduces all of material things to the soul, inducing it to partake of them, and thus
making it similar to oneself. Even if mind has potential to control feelings, as it is the
commander-in-chief (it has its weapon, which is the spiritual activity), however, if
Self is corrupted (the king is corrupted), then it breaks away and overrides not only
sense, but also mind and soul (as a king and commander-in-chief) and causes their
suffering in the material world.
128. As in time a pauper becomes a millionaire if he systematically gathers coins one by
one, so in time sadhak gains control over Self and achieves samadhi in the grace of
his spiritual teacher through and through regular practice.
129. Under the guidance of a spiritual teacher it is possible to correct Self. When Self is
under control, feelings also come under control. Yoga-Shastra says: as with the help
of practice Self comes into a quiescent state, so breath, speech, body and look also
quiet down.
130. Listen, my son! When his heartbeat is for ishta, then sadhak receives the ability to
day and night concentrate upon Him, meditate at Him and acquires knowledge of
intimacy with Him. Such devoted bhakta finds God very soon.
131. Make service to God with the feeling of dasya (dasya is one of the variations of
bhakti, when the believer considers himself to be slave to the worshipped deity), trust
Him with the feeling of sakhi (the believer considers himself friend to the worshipped
deity), love Him as gopi (girls-shepherdess, girl-friends of Krishna and His most
devoted servants). Undertake all of the material actions only for Him and His
satisfaction.
132. Devoted service brings knowledge. Knowledge is the result of devoted service.
11/34
ripened and became destiny, are called prarabdha. In order to live our destiny, we are
predetermined with our bodies and life span. Besides, those fruits of actions in the
past lives, which have nit ripened yet in this life in the form of destiny, also appear as
sanchita. Thus, prarabdha is what accompanies us and the fruits of which we enjoy.
However, sanchita is like money, which is kept in the treasury and comes into
circulation, when the near source runs dry. In these three types of karma there are two
varieties, i.e. the bad and the goods one. Those, whose prarabdha-karma can be
called good, prosper, even if their kriyamana seeds prickle for their future. On the
contrary, those, whose prarabdha-karma can be called bad, experience sufferings and
sorrows, destroying their innate abilities.
145. Desire to find freedom from suffering sooner or later brings paramatma, which brings
revelation from the sins of hundreds thousands of incarnations (notable, that in front
of Sri the sins of hundreds thousands of incarnations are also obliterated. Having
received protection of God, Baba himself has said: Speak, my son: the world of
sansara has been left hehind. You stand in front of Rama-Janaki-Lakshman and
Hanuman. (In addition to the fact that he himself has destroyed hundreds thousands
of sins, the spiritual teacher has maintained the ability to turn others to God,
alongwith the infinite grace to help momentarily leave behind the world of sansara in
one moment).
146. Yogi sees this life in the heart as a garland of lights and perceives it as penetrating
everywhere managing all.
147. With the help of prema-bhakti it is possible to always see God, everywhere and in all
possible forms.
148. In reality theres no significant difference between gyana and bhakti. The supreme
point of gyana is bhakti and the supreme point of bhakti is gyana.
149. Even to mahatmas Shi Baba told that they break prarabdha exactly when they
experience it. But because they are free from the bonds of karma, they also break free
from krijamana, and their good sanchita-karma is shared by their admirers, while the
bad one is shared by their ill-wishers. Thus, either sanchita, or prarabdha do not
appear any more.
150. Bringing evidence to prove existence of sanchita-karma, Sri Baba says that in the
time of king Dhritarashtra (the blind king, hero of Mahabharata) the kingdom
suffered from famine. In his garden he created one hundred cooked eggs out of
laughter and fed the hungry neighbors. As a result, in his present life he was blind,
and one hundred of his sons died. As a result each of them had to pass one hundred
reincarnations.
151. Those unworthy scriptures, which are about to appear in the future, will disappear
forever from the sight of God.
152. My son, if you constantly keep your heart connected to the name of God, and then
undoubtedly you will see the divine light. Do not have doubt about it. Repetition of
the names of God is like learning and then mastering the ride on a bicycle. First, man
has troubles. But when he learns, then traversing in the mob, he even gives a ride for
13/34
the others and doesnt have any inconvenience. Getting experience, he easily reaches
his goal. Under the influence of repeating the names of God everything which is bad
leaves your heart, and all of the troubles leave your worldly life.
153. My son, there is salt in each drop of water in the Sambhar lake. The impersonal form
of Brahman (nirakara) is the same. When salt is extracted from water, then its
personal form appears (sakara). There is no difference between nirguna (one that has
no attributes or qualities) and saguna ( , ). The matter is
merely about understanding.
154. Listen, my son. If you take a look at the denomination, this is merely a paper. It
acquires value only when it is marked with a government sign. Marks contain value,
but not the paper. Similarly the statue of God acquires value only when it is filled
with life. Then it is considered to be the form of God. However if the statue is broken,
this will not cause God to disappear. It is also true that the sky will never disappear.
155. Sri Baba said thus about the stolen, i.e. stealthily picked up flowers: today you
desired flowers and you picked these flowers, tomorrow you will desire something
else. Those flowers that you picked were not yours. Do you think that God doesnt
see that you picked them for Him? But how can He be satisfied with this? God is
omnipresent. He sees each of our deeds. To present flowers to God is dharma
(righteous behavior, as assigned in the Scriptures; faith, religion), but you should
never present Him with the stolen flowers. This is the essence of dharma.
156. A man seems to be free and powerful. But if you think, you will realize that he
doesnt exist at all. The whole existence is Brahma. As it is His will that generates
existence of every soul, then there is no sense in considering that you creator. That is
why Lord Sri Krishna says to Arjuna (the hero of Mahabharata, son of king
Pandu, friend of Krishna): All of them are already dead. You be only the
executor.
157. Even years of praying do not bring such benefit as feeding the hungry, and comforting
the tears of the one who cries.
158. My son, this (my) nature is immense. I am present everywhere. These words you hear
now are the words of God.
159. If one of your desires is fulfilled, consider it the grace of God. If it is not fulfilled,
then consider it His exceptional grace.
160. It is not easy to receive a good spiritual teacher. This only becomes possible through
constant development of perfection.
161. Tasya vachakaha pranavaha. Which means: sound Om is defining God.
Taddjapastadarda bhavanam. Which means: you should always forward your prayers
to Him and think of His form of Parameshvara. By following this rule, each soul
acquires knowledge of its true nature, and also becomes free from reincarnation. My
son! Each of such concentrated considerations is antarmukhata of the soul (being
turned inwards, penetration into thoughts).
14/34
162. If acquiring God is the purpose of life, then acquiring bhakti is even more important.
After revealing His existence He does not find Himself in anyones power. When he
descended upon the Earth as Krishna or Rama, He revealed Himself to many, but he
was dependent only upon the most devoted Bhakta, such as Hanuman.
163. As salt becomes one with water, when it falls into it, so the union of Self and soul is
samadhi. When this happens jivatama becomes whole with paramatma.
164. Sarvadevamayo guru (all gods are united in a spiritual teacher) when you accept
this, when you find sanctuary in a spiritual teacher, you receive a possibility to find
full knowledge of the souls nature.
165. Listen, my son! The easiest way to find God is an unselfish prayer. A prayer means
dedication. It means you are fully devoted to God, and you belong to Him is every
way.
166. If desires are prudently turned towards service to God, they become a way to worship
Him, and liberate a person from reincarnation.
167. The one, who receives a gracious glance from God, soon receives a blow, and he can
stand it.
168. A person who comes close to God, but forgets his duty to his parents, who gave him
birth, destroys his true Self.
169. Take all decisions after taking council from God (soul) that is in your heart.
170. As gold is purified by continuous heating, you should purify your soul with the
constant reflection over the words of your spiritual teacher, meditation, prayer, silent
repetition of the names of God.
171. The aim of bhakti should be God. Material world is full of sorrow. (It is good when
even one good work has been done. It has been done by the grace of God. Having
understood this, His benefits, their pleasure, give back to God who gives pleasure.
Such disinterested actions are yoga, the true bhakti.
172. Be joyful all the time, always laugh and smile. Near that Self, which is out of spirits,
there is sansara. Self, which is out of spirits, does not think of God.
173. Talk about God, sing His names, and communicate with the devoted. Kneel in front of
His image in temples. Find a place there to stay alone and awaken atmabhava inside
yourself (the feeling that there is atma, i.e. pure Self).
174. Gradually the heart of one, who with the help of meditation continuously
contemplates upon his spiritual teacher, is purified and it is filled with God in His
form of sakara. There is nothing so important for purification of ones soul, as
concentration upon the spiritual teacher.
175. It is impossible to find faith without resistance. If your family and friends everyone
agree with you, then you will not have a slightest desire to do the good works,
communicate with the devotees, undertake pilgrimage, etc. So you should accept
resistance as the Gods gift.
15/34
176. You should wake up at 1,5 hour before sunrise, read mantra given by your spiritual
teacher. Time before sunrise is most favorable. At this time mind rests in piece.
177. Do not give way to the desire to satisfy sansara. Satisfying God is not so difficult.
178. My son, even without desire, you should always repeat the names of God. First the
fire is lit, and only then it gives warmth; similarly, first the names of God are
repeated, and then it starts to bring its benefit. This is an unshakable truth.
179. My son, body is the container for illness. The greater sin is to make a tomb of it.
180. There are three types of divine energy: internal, external and borderline. ) Internal
energy of God is His form, as it is, which is also called as sandhini. It is a collective
term of Sat-chit-ananda (existence-consciousness-bliss). ) External energy of God is
called maja. Material world generates from it. Maja can also be of two kinds: dravja
is maja, of which the material word is generated, and guna-maja, which is the cause
of desire. ) Between these two energies lies a borderline energy, which gives birth to
the living beings (jiva). In his full expansion God is always present at Goloka (the
supreme planet, the abode of God Krishna), which is also called Vrindavanadhama
181. From the time immemorial Jivas have forgotten their true nature. Returning them to
God is a great goodness.
182. The soul is concealed in five sheaths. Inside annamaja kosha (eating, thick physical
body) is pranamaja kosha (represents life energy), in pranamaja kosha there is
manomaja kosha (represents mind), in manomaja kosha there is vigyanamaja kosha
(represents knowledge), and inside vigyanamaja kosha there is anandamaja kosha
(the sheath of bliss, represents potential abilities, instinkts). When we complete some
action, all of the sheaths are inactivated. The action is completed by hands
annamaja kosha, power is in hands pranamaja kosha, desire to complete this action
manomaja kosha, awareness of completed action vigyanamaja kosha, connection
of desire with the instinkts anandamaja kosha. These sheaths change as a result of
perfection during lifetime.
183. There is another simple method to cast away the veil of maja. It requires that the man
should reject desires, i.e. renounce all of his desires. It is always necessary to
understand that what God wants is sufficient. All of us are passengers in the car,
which is maja. We have to act under its management. However, the one, who got out
of the car, who stopped God, i.e. came under His protection, has become free from it.
If you send a signal, then send it to God. When the veil of maja is off, then Self,
which is perfectly aware of the environment and omnipresent, forgets of all the
differences and begins to see paramatma in everything.
184. The importance of the Sarayu River is that it helps to see paramatma without the
need to apply significant efforts. Notably, that when the demon Shankhasur has
stolen Veda, then God assumed the aspect of the fish, killed him and hid Veda in the
ocean. Tears of joy that fell from the eyes of God that moment have formed the
Sarayu river. THenadays lived a king Veivasvatmanu from the clan of Raghu. He
desided to make a sacrifice in Ayodhe. But there was no river in Ayodhe at that time.
16/34
Then his spiritual guru Vishishtha advised him to bring a river from Mansarovara,
which destroys all sins, to make the sacrifice possible. The river, which was brought
from Mansarovara to Ayodhe by Veivasvatmanu, who shot an arrow, is the Sarayu
River. As the river was transferred with the help of an arrow (in Sanskrit an arrow is
shar or sar), it is called Sharayu or Sarayu. And it is also called Vishishtha nandini
in honor of the teacher Vishishtha, as it was transferred on his advice.
185. My son! Continuous thoughts about wealth lead to reincarnation in the body of a
snake, thoughts about a house lead to reincarnation as a ghost, thought about
descendants lead to reincarnation in the body of a pig. Thus, having become a victim
of just a few bodies like these, Jiva immediately purchases a chain of 840000
incarnations for himself. On the contrary, if his thoughts are deeply rooted in the
repetition of mantra, received from authorized persons, eventually, they will bring
him to the abode of God.
186. As the frozen river turns into ice (kept in the refrigerator), similarly, getting close to
the competent authorities and concentrated upon a spiritual teacher, Self dissolves in
the heat of his words and receives piece and bliss. It is always true. (Not ice but water
is in the natural and form. We receive earthly benefits as ice. We are kept in sansara,
as in a refrigerator and lose the ability to reach the ocean). That is why in order to
receive an invariable spiritual piece you should turn to your spiritual teacher. (i.e. at
every birth we accumulate material, and not spiritual wealth, however, spiritual
wealth is granted by a spiritual teacher. If you will fail to obtain it in the human body,
then afterwards, wandering in the several bodies, you will not receive the human
body second time. Thus you should take everything that is given by your spiritual
teacher. There will be no second incarnation) A spiritual teacher will willingly lead
jiva on a road of service, prayer, etc.
187. As an elephant is tamed by an iron stick, so it is impossible to tame Self without an
iron stick of continuous directions taken from a spiritual teacher.
188. If you hand your Self over to your spiritual teacher, then its will also become a well of
bliss.
189. If material wealth is stolen by a thief, it can be accumulated again. But if a man once
loses the opportunity to accumulate spiritual wealth, he will never receive a second
chance to do this.
190. Vibhishana-tattva (essence, existence of Vibhishana. Vibhishana is the epic hero,
demon, brother of Ravana) is jiva-tattva (essence, existence of jiva), and Hanumanatattva (essence of Hanuman) is guru-tattva. Jiva receives benefit from a spiritual
teacher. Hanuman directs jiva towards God. Humility of Vibhishana is the love of
bhakti. Devotion is the first priority of bhakti. When jiva gives own self to God, then
He reveals Himself, to satisfy jiva.
191. A family-man should read Gayatri-mantra at least 108 times.
192. Son! When you form dhyana mudra (a special position of fingers in meditation) you
will go deep into meditation and see the image of God Rama-Janaki-Lakshman and
Hanuman in front of you. Contemplating upon these four images the restless Self
17/34
will not be able to remain in a balanced state. Master, and what is instead to
contemplate upon the image of Guru-bhagavan (the term bhagavan is sometimes
applied to identify a spiritual teacher, who has completely merged with God)? What
would be your advice? Maharaja (this is sometimes an address to a spiritual teacher)
replies: My son! This is the best image! So you should do!.
193. Gyana, karma and meditation are closely connected. The difference is only about
sattva (quality of purity, harmony), rajas (quality of activity, passion, anxiety) and
tamas (quality of inertness, stuggishness, ignorance, darkness, perishable nature). The
prevalence of gyana is the prevalence of sattva, the prevalence of karma is the
prevalence of rajas, and the prevalence of meditation is the prevalence of tamas. This
is a terminology.
194. In the house of a true sage there is no place for disbelief.
195. Love wherever you want, but if with a pure heart you the fact that a wise-man is
always nearby and ready to prevent us from doing wrongness, then even if he knows
nothing of it, his support will reach you indirectly (as well as directly). He will help,
advise and protect you from wrong actions and situations.
196. Him, who has approached the saint wise-man and whom the sage has accepted, God
has taken by the hand.
197. Out of the mouth of the sage speaks God. Everything he says is as if God Himself is
making notes in His note-book and always looks after their fulfillment.
198. What a man has in this world that he could reject? If you get rid of anger, pride,
greed, or from the object of pleasure, this would be renunciation.
199. Treat your parents as if they were sacred. They are an embodiment of paramatma.
Satisfy them with a faithful heart. He, who serves his parents and brings them joy, is
bringing joy to God.
200. Ask nothing from God. Doesnt the Father of the universe, gracious paramatma,
know desires of His children? What the use telling Him of these desires?
201. A prayer devoid of lucre reaches Gods heart.
202. A true bhakti or a saint is that, who never grumbles about Gods laws.
203. The life of Hanuman is worth of being learned and taken as an example. He has
never grumbled at Lord Rama. He was a model bhakta. (i.e. completely not to
grumble at God is to become Hanuman).
204. How can He, who endows the whole world with presents, forget about His bhakti?
The one, who serves God only to satisfy own desires, is not bhakti under any
condition. Such person is a merchant.
205. The fact that a spiritual teacher knows his own destiny us a special, filled with love,
game of God.
206. Undoubtedly a spiritual teacher should possess divine knowledge. And it is
impossible without devotion.
18/34
207. My son, guru-tattva is very odd and mysterious. Through its grace it is possible to
learn both material and spiritual world. The state of yoga is also its grace.
208. My son, in order to develop your life to perfection, you should always remember at
least two statements from Ramcharit manas: 1) Ram nam bin Gira na soha
(Without the name of Rama even Gira is not beautiful) and 2) Rama-kaja kinhe bina
mohin kahan vishram (Without pious actions you fall into ignorance). So is there a
chance to rest?
209. Along with repeating the names of God you should pay attention to pious activities.
Just to glorify the names of God is not bhakti. All of material world is a form of God
that is why it is important to satisfy it. Life of Hanuman included both glorifying the
names of God and pious actions. Hence, bhakti should serve to the benefit of material
world along with celebration Gods names. Then God will be satisfied.
210. My son, guru-mantra contains the whole power of guru-tattva. Bija-mantra, given by
the spiritual teacher, ignites an eternal fire in the heart of the disciple, but this depends
upon the disciples abilities. Generally speaking, all mantra are the forms of sound
Om, but mantra, given by your spiritual teacher, is filled with supernatural power,
from which the pure sound Om originates to glorify authoritative personalities like
the image of God Chaitanya.
211. My son, the practice of concentration develops slowly. Concentration is developed
during the practice of meditation. But reading guru-mantra undoubtedly brings
benefit. Up to the fact that reading it is itself beneficial, even without direct
understanding of the word-meaning. Listen! Your body perceives mantra as naturally
as it perceives water, fire and air.
212. Look here: knowledge, which is connected to God, and ignorance, which is connected
to jiva, are the inseparable friendly pair of birds. They both sit on a tree of maja
(material nature), characterized with three qualities (sattva, rajs, tamas). One of them
(connected with jiva) enjoys fruit from the tree, while the other (connected with God)
merely has a sense of sakha for it. In the grace of spiritual teacher, the bird which is
jiva comes into the state of deep concentration, understands own mistake, and
inspired by the authority of its friend, rejects despondency. My son, this is the
mystery of mind.
213. I make only spiritual gifts. People often come to me but care little about what I have
to say. These visits are useless.
214. Body is a chariot, feelings are horses, Self is a rein. Mind performs the charioteers
function. Owner of this chariot is the soul. The soul is less then feelings, Self, ego and
mind. In practice, feelings are subordinate to Self, Self is subordinate to ego, ego is
subordinate to mind, while mind is subordinate to the soul. (This means that feelings
are geared by Self. If the motion of Self is stopped then feelings wont work. Self
comes to motion being geared by ego. Can there be active mind wherein there is no
ego from ego? Similarly if the soul is strong, if we hear its voice, then mind will not
gain the advantage. This means, that if the soul and mind are joint in the pursuit of a
19/34
common cause, then the priority should be attributed to the soul. You should let it
move forward and follow it, without paying attention to the mind).
215. Continuous experience of atmabhava brings senses to the quiescent state. When
sadhak is aware of the state of his soul, his heart is completely filled. That is why
self-perception is a way to withdraw from desires. It is important to continuously
maintain an internal sensation that you are atmasvarupa (the term referring to the
universe, indicating that it doesnt have the internal reality and exists only as the
manifestation of spirit), that you are aside of feelings, Self, ego, mind, that you are
sat-chit-ananda. This is soham, this is tattvamasi. Even when we become part of
God, we do not feel we are part of Him, because we lack self-confidence as a result of
minds ego, expansion of ego, and prevalence of feelings. On the contrary, when we
become part of maja, we fall into such illusion, that in all aspects we become poor,
helpless, weak, killing own true Self. We turn happiness into misery.
216. My son, I dwell on the ocean of existence. As the laundress cleans mud off clothes, I
clean vice off jivas on the oceans shore. Listen, while I cleaned them my spine has
stiffened bent, and yet I cannot lift my head even for a moment. Can you find anyone
as devoted to his duty as I am? (After ordination himself to God, Baba personally
cleans our vices, i.e. our mind, Self and feelings that become dirty after day. So are
we going to continue to become even dirtier? If not, then let us be attentive and
always remember that we should never commit actions that could stain our mind, ego,
Self and feelings. Otherwise this will cause suffering to Baba, which is completely
inadmissible.
217. Sunshine reaches the surface of our bodies, but we are warmed with the heat from the
inside. When you wash yourself, water comes in touch with the surface of your body,
but its coolness is profoundly felt inside. That is why in the process of actuation Self,
even unwillingly, it is necessary to undertake sermons. By all means their beneficial
effect will penetrate into us.
218. Study of Veda only creates desire to find God. If it were not like this, then anyone
could find God having studied just a coulple of Shastra. But this thing doesnt
happen. Along with studies of shastra it is necessary to engage into spiritual
activities, which is possible only in the grace of a spiritual teacher. Otherwise its like
keeping an infertile cow.
219. In the grace of a spiritual teacher even a minor spiritual activity or a great desire can
lead to God.
220. That is why the grace of a spiritual teacher is also called Sri varad vallabha ma (the
giving beloved mother). During a divine service each guru-bhakta (bhakta of a
spiritual teacher) must thus praise a mother seated in the lotus flower and holding the
blessing rain in her four hands. Sri varadavallabha devyaya namaha Yatrasti moksho
na cha tatra bhogaha Yatrasti bhogaha na cha tatra moksho Sri sundari Sevana
tatparanam Bhogazhya mokshazhya karastha eva Kantaste purushottamaha
phanipitiha shayasana vahinam Devatama vihageshvaro zhdavanika maja
jaganmohini Brahmeshadi suravrajaha sadayatiha tvadadasadasi gana Sri ityeva
cha bhagavati brumahakatham tvam mayam Yasyaha te mahimanam atmana iva
20/34
22/34
237. My son, Vindhyachala is a place filled with super-natural power. I visit many places,
but I am always concentrated upon Vindhyachala. Bhakti should regularly serve there
as much as they can, because it is a glorious and very beautiful ashram.
238. Continuous connection with God, makes this place even more important, than
connection to any great people in this world. You swim in a river. And suddenly a
crocodile snaps at your keg. Even if you are friends with the president, this friendship
cannot help in the given situation. However, if you keep friendship with God, then He
can immediately save you, because He is your closest friend suhrida
sarvabhutanam (Bhagavad Gita 5.29). God is always ready to appear merely at
remembrance of Him.
239. If sadhak lives in a world of sansara, this is not a problem, but a world of sansara
should not live in him.
240. The names of God, as well as the bija-mantra, given by a spiritual teacher, are God.
That is why in the time of Kali it is very important to sing His names.
241. God gives a man all earthly pleasures according to the pool of previously committed
good deeds.
242. Listen, my son, you should never censure any saint. They are the ornament to earth.
For the benefit of humanity they apply terrible bodily mortifications, when they come
into relations with society. When jiva receives a special grace of God, then these
saints reach sannidhya (sannidhya is a merger of soul and God).
243. Are your parents alive? Have you ever shown them your respect? If not, then run
from here, ungrateful! Unfortunate, why did you come here? What will you receive
when you bow to me?
244. The true form of God is nirguna. Saguna is the result of bhaktas love.
245. The true nirgunopasaka (one, who worships God in His form of nirguna) may even
become yogi, as svarupaavasthe (the state of existence with Brahman, rest in
Absolute reality or Brahman) is the final stage of nirgunopasaka.
246. My son, when merging with ishta, in the natural grace of God, bhakta starts to feel
anxiety. There are absolutely no defects in your spiritual activity. If in the state of
unity with the Mother you suddenly feel anxiety, you should continue to read mantra
from the spot on mala where your finger has stopped.
247. My son, a photograph is the best way to remember. You will always be able to find
with you my small and perceivable image.
248. Infinite faith is enclosed in paramatma. It is full of desire to get hold of you. Draw
away from the fruits of your activity and take a close look at your friend. Over and
over you best friend repeats: Na phaleshu kadachan. Jump through the branches of
the tree, but do not be attached to its fruit. Perform the activity, but reject aspiration
for its results.
249. Body is like a chariot. Feelings are like horses. Now it depends upon you whether,
like Arjuna, you are going to give the reins of your chariot to Sri Krishna and stop
23/34
to worry about the earthly things, or you will get hold of your feelings yourself. If you
stop them, then your desires will rule them and will become the charioteer. Let God
driver your chariot. When Narayana drives your chariot, there will be no more
doubts in your Self. There will be no more conflict, no agitation. In the hour of need
God will advise you, and layer after layer will open all of the misteries Sarva
guhyatamam bhuyaha shrinu me paramam vachaha Drishtonsi me dririhamititatio
vakshyamite hitam.
250. A man is ishta for God that is how much grace is contained in Him! He will
unconditionally speak His graceful sermons. He will conceal nothing. He will explain
everything and say with love: Brother, I have told you everything. Now act as you
consider rightly.
251. This requires that you put both mind and Self to the lotus feet of God. Sacrificing
them both is a complete sacrifice. If you leave something for yourself, then it will
turn into Indras trident (trishula) and cover your body with many wounds. All
mistakes and doubts are generated by Self and mind. If a man trusts them, he will be
deceived. The cause all of the wanderings on the road. That is why you should entrust
both of them to God, free yourself from anxiety, and perform your duties.
252. If you devote yourself to God, whatever activities you perform, do them as a worship
of God, with purity, and feeling of duty. Consider everything, which is performed
with the means of body-Self-mind, as a service to God. If you perform your duties as
a divine service, then you will acquire siddhi and undoubtedly will gain bliss.
253. My son, a brave man is the one, who keeps no evil thoughts and who always guided
by wisdom. Wisdom is always at the disposal of one, who controls his feelings and
manages them.
254. It is impossible to find understanding of Paramatma merely by living in Ayodhya or
in Kasha, by worshiping Ganga, or just by eating lenten fair. If it were possible, then
any bird merely feeding on fruit would be able find it. Merely rejection from relations
with women also doesnt lead to bliss. Understanding of paramatma can only be
found though love. If you do not feel attachment to it, then there will be false
indifference.
255. My son, when God wants to show mercy to His bhakti, He leads them to the saint
sages. I you go to them, then you should come with a pure soul. You should not go
while carrying vices in your soul. Talk to them, and perform divine service together.
Their advices are prasad. Go. This is grace, infinite grace!
256. You should know that if during meditation you will form understanding of the body
and world, then you are not yet completely concentrated upon ishta.
257. My son, now we will go to our place. This is a place in Himalayas, in Tibet. There is a
group of our companions, who one by one, descend according to the order. Over a
period of 15 years we come in the bodily form for the sake of preservation of Indian
theosophy. You should not be worried.(19.06.1990)
24/34
258. Step by step, gradually you will reach Haridvara. Similarly by regular development of
concentration, you will find God. This is beyond any doubt. You should concentrate
upon the lotus feet of God, and be resolute.
259. The anahata chakra is inside of your heart. You should concentrate upon the image
of God, seated on the twelfth lotus flower.
260. Repetition of the sacred names of God destroys all sins. This is beyond any doubt.
But is the sins are destroyed, then why even then Self of sadhak is full of anxiety?
Sins are destroyed but their cause remains. It will also be destroyed with the help of
the names of God. The reason of sins is desires. With the names of God on your lips
there are no desires. Desires dwell in your heart. With the image of Sri Narayana in a
heart, and the names of God on lips, the spiritual activity of sahdhak will become
firm. Undoubtedly, his faith will grow. He will always move forward. Hence, a
spiritual activity should always be structured in such a way that it would have an
image of God Narayana in a heart, and His names on lips. Such should be a spiritual
activity.
261. Vaishnava is he, who has seen the sufferings of jiva, who has been filled with
compassion towards them, who has accepted everyone as if he were an abode of God
and has been filled with a sense of love towards each one he has accepted.
262. God is in everything in the forest, in the mountains, in trees, in birds, in animals.
You should understand this and share your compassion and love with everyone.
263. God is also contained in feelings. Thus when you are filled with different feelings,
consider this a way to worship Him.
264. A man who faces God with joy is called Prahlada pratyakshena ahladaha
prahladaha (Srimadbhagavad).
265. Sraddha ghat-ghat herahu bhai, jal thal me prabhu rahe samai zyada der na ki kidjie
bhai, sir ne kal rahe mandarai (Seek faith in every soul, brother. God is in water and
on land. Do not waste your time, brother. Tomorrow is already looming right in frond
of you).
266. All roads lead to God. You should follow these roads to Him by eradicating
ignorance, winning over attachment, merging with paramatma, suppressing desires,
getting rid from dualities, such as suffering, i.e. by becoming gyani.
267. God is always rewarding (faith of this is very strong), that is why you should kneel
before God, as this is the easiest way of all possible!
268. While there is life in your body, you should think as follows: I have no need to live,
I live only to contemplate upon the feet of God. Thus all of your life will become a
prayer, and God will show His grace undoubtedly it will be like this.
269. All of your completed actions should be devoted to God, acting in line with the
precept: Do your duties with your soul and speech, be a faithful slave of God
without thinking.
25/34
270. The living beings (jiva), even the most clear, consider the visible world with the help
of mind. The state of mind is changing every moment. But there is no buddhi in the
system of yoga, because God has clearly stated in Gita: Those devotees, who are
continuously busy with concentration upon Myself, those, who pray to me with love,
I give yoga in the form of theoretical knowledge They find Me through this
knowledge, they open to Me. When the obscuration of mind fades away, the living
being gains consciousness and a new form. Such state is called kaivalia.
271. There is one more simple method to cast away the veil of maja. A man has to stop
forming desires, i.e. he simply has to reject all of his desires. He has to consider, that
only Gods wishes are to come true.
272. Energy (Sakti) of the Sun is called Gayatri. Sakti of the Sun forms an innumerable
number of rays and reaches the Earth. Gayatri controls all of these rays. It protects
life powers (prana), due to it the planets of the Solar System revolve on their axis.
Pronouncing Gayatri mantra concentrates this power. Due to it, the soul (man), life
energy (pran) and speech act in congruence. Buddhi (mind) is an imaginary form of
the soul, and you have to worship Gayatri to strengthen your mind.
273. Maja is the reason why Brahma is called Ishvara; ignorance is the reason why He is
called a living soul (jiva). Ignorance is the reason why jiva forgets own true form,
loses Knowledge and becomes aware of own Self. In such a way jiva begins to act
and consume, and is caught into the circle of reincarnation.
274. Daily spiritual practice is called Brahma rituals. For example, a Human ritual is
hospitality. A host is a person, who stays for a night (this is neither a friend, a
schoolmate and not an acquaintance).
275. My son, show me the place where I am not?
276. The very thought of God provides ablution to the soul.
277. You have to wake up early in the morning, in the hour of Brahma (Brahmamuhurt) and read mantra, given by your guru. The moment before sunrise is the best
time, as your mind rests in peace.
278. A man has to think twice as much as he communicates with the great people. Better
eat less but chew more, as thus you increase health.
279. To contemplate means to get rid of all thoughts; to be washed means to get rid of all
vices.
280. When you go to worship gods or a saint, you should not go with the empty hands,
bring at least a fruit or a flower as a present.
281. Rading aloud or pronouncing by heart mantra, which are dedicated to Mother
Gayatri, is capable to clean even the most terrible deeds, your mind becomes clear. As
far as it is possible you should read Gayatri-mantra in the morning and in the
evening at least one circle of mala (108 times).
282. Before commencing any activity ask a blessing of Paramatma, which is inside of
you.
26/34
283. Compassion for the divine word, commitment to glorify God, esteem for the saints,
- that is how a special grace of God is revealed in people.
284. Brahma is the name for the divine light, which appears on the surface of a pure,
clear heart of a devotee in the moment, when it is filled with the ray of Knowledge.
Similar light, which illuminates heaven of the devotees heart, is called Paramatma.
285. Wherever you go, consider that you respectfully walk around God. Whatever you
see, consider that you are watching different manifestations of God. When you eat,
think that you are eating Prasad that has been blessed with God. When you drink
water, be aware that you are drinking nectar, which has washed the feet of God. When
you are asleep, believe that you rest on the chest of loving God. And when you wake
up, think that you are starting the new day to work for God.
286. God doesnt bring sorrows. He eliminates suffering, while in his ignorance a man
considers his experience to be sorrowful. A child soils his body and refuses to wash
himself. His loving mother will clean the childs body for his sake and even against
his will. The child sobs, cries, and thinks that his mother causes him harm. While
actually it is not so That is why you should consider everything a highest divine
blessing and be happy about everything.
287. Think about yourself, try to answer the questions: Who am I?, Where did I come
from?, Where do we go when we die?
288. As a result of meditation you become aware of your own Atman, you begin to
perceive that your Atman is a part of Paramatman. He is inseparable from Him,
though distant from us. But He is distant only until we start to approach Him.
289. When we start to approach God (Ishvara), we begin to grow our power, i.e. the
power over Knowledge about own Atman. And when this happens, then the
differentiation between yours and mine, which is inside of us, will cease to exist.
We start to see a part of God in every living being, and perceive a great happiness
finding Truth, Consciousness and Bliss in each and every one.
290. Contemplating over sorrow merely increases sorrow.
291. Grabbing at material objects brings sorrow. The attempt to keep them generates
emotional disturbance and suffering, while their destruction also leads to sorrow.
292. When the doors of all senses of perception are closed and the soul rests in
concentration, the practice of self-meditation makes the soul similar to Brahma.
293. If body generates thought, this causes suffering. Pride with regards to the body
merely increases this suffering.
294. The object of thought in itself is neither bad, nor good. It is human mind that refers
it to suffering or joy, depending towards which one it is disposed. (I.e., suffering or
joy are born from the thoughts, which are opposite or aligned with the object of
thought).
295. The circle of birth and death cannot be broken by virtuous deeds only.
27/34
296. While the soul is looking into the outside, it is shadowed by sansara. But when it
goes deeply inwards, the shadow of sansara touches it no more, and the internal flam
is flamed up.
297. Bliss is achieved only after deep meditation and contemplation.
298. Worship of the stone image of God is only one of the steps of the ladder leading to
God; this is a way of intellectual discipline.
299. Divine takes a form of spiritual benefit; what is related to guru takes a form of
spiritual search. Theology creates ignorance and maja; knowledge, given by guru,
creates Knowledge about maja. One, which is material, rewards a man according to
his deeds. The other one appears as the ocean of endless grace and compassion, its
blessing is disinterested
300. Construction of a temple in the place where Rama was born is the act that will be
performed by the Hindu, the Muslims, the Sikhs, and the Christians together. Their
joined efforts will keep unity in the country; the country will be united. Faith of God
will be intact. Nobody can bring harm to the Indian land, because this is the land of
great sages and ascetics.
301. A resolute faith of God prevents us from committing sinful actions. God inspires us
towards faith, good intentions, moral actions, and service. All of these are parts of our
true Hindu faith. Comparing religions is not wise.
302. What else can be built in the place of birth of Lord Rama, the embodiment of
Brahma, but a temple? How can it be doubted that in this place a temple dedicated to
Rama will be built? The issue of constructing a temple is an issue of the unity of the
state. Devoted Muslims will contribute to this good cause. A cause pleasing to God
cannot be stopped notwithstanding any difficulties.
303. My son, my duty is to wish good to each and everyone, who comes to me. Each will
reap the fruits of his own labor. If a man addicted to gaming asks for my blessing, I
will tell him: Let you be blessed with goodness! But he should know that goodness
for a gambler is loss, because if he wins, his vicious tendencies will only increase and
he will be lost. If politicians, convinced in the rightness of their sinful behavior, come
to me to ask for my blessing, hoping to liberate from sins, then their expectations are
false. I have addressed many leaders asking to stop the killing of cows. None has
kept his word. Can their meeting with me liberate them from the terrible sin of killing
a cow? It is useless to look at the religious books that explain the law, it is necessary
to follow them. Embody my covenants, and then they will be meaningful for you.
Live a truthful life with the name of Lord Rama on your lips. Do not wish evil to
anyone, do not condemn, and do not listen to the others when they condemn. Observe
God in every living being. This is sufficient to make a human life prosperous and
successful.
