Preface
About This Manual
The ZXJ10V10.0 (V03.03Eu) digital SPC switch (hereinafter ZXJ10 for short, unless
otherwise specified) has the functions of local switching and toll switching, and the
combined function of local switching and toll switching. As the PSTN continues to
develop, this kind of switch can adapt to the development trend of emerging
technologies and the requirements for internetworking. It helps to improve the
networks sustainability and lowers the overall operational cost of the whole network.
ZXJ10 has a powerful processing capability, rich service functions and flexible
networking modes. Apart from use in the PSTN and N-ISDN networking, it is also
applicable to the SDH, No.7 signaling network, Telecommunications Management
Network (TMN), and Intelligent Network (IN). The products that have been developed
with ZXJ10 as the platform include ZXIP10-Access Server (AS), ZXIN10 IN system,
ZXSS1010 soft switching system gateway, ZXG10-Mobile Switching System (MSS)
and ZXC10-MSS. We have a good reason to believe that ZXJ10 will have a broader
and broader application prospect in the construction of many networks.

1 Equipment Maintenance
1.1 Maintenance Description
It is essential to systematically check the equipment software, hardware and peripheral
operating environment during routing maintenance so as to find and solve any problem
and ensure the normal operation of the ZXJ10 switch.
1.
Maintenance classification
Maintenance usually includes routine maintenance and emergency maintenance.
Routine maintenance is a regular maintenance, like daily, monthly, quarterly or
yearly maintenance.
Emergency maintenance refers to the maintenance task caused from equipment
fault and network adjustment, such as equipment fault, user-complained fault,
and problems search in routine maintenance.
2.
Maintenance requirements
Check the running status of the switch and perform corresponding processing
according to the daily, monthly and quarterly maintenance items in the routine
maintenance of the switch.
2)
3)
Regularly back up all relevant data in the system maintenance according to the
operation requirements in the routine maintenance.
4)
Especially, check whether the inter-office No. 7 link, V5 link and trunk circuit
are normal and whether the inter-/intra-module communication is proper.
5)
Observe the alarm information reported from the background alarm system,
alarm box and analyze the cause and handle it promptly.
6)
Make sure that the instrument for checking the ZXJ10 system must be accurate.
7)

Maintenance suggestions
1)
Separate the good parts from faulty ones and mark them clearly. To prompt the
faulty ones should be repaired.
2)
Make sure that the maintenance personnel are qualified engineers from the
equipment operator who are familiar with the ZXJ10, or ZTE technical support
engineers.
3)
4)
Label the contact methods and contact persons of the ZTE local office in a
noticeable place offering for easy consultation in case of any fault.
Note: Unless necessary, do not cut off the power supply of the equipment when it
is running normally. Even if it is faulty, first find out why and then take proper
action. Never reset and restart the equipment, especially the foreground
equipment, unless approved.
them. If no, check the environment information on the background alarm interface.
Requirements for the maintenance environment:
Temperature: 15C ~ 30C (long term); 0C ~ 45C (short term)
Relative humidity: 40% ~ 65% RH (long term); 20% ~ 90% RH (short term)
If either temperature or relative humidity exceeds the above nominal ranges, report
immediately and make records.
1.2.1.2 Checking the running status of the switch
Operation guide:
Check whether there is any error alarm in the background server and maintenance
terminal and whether the interface switchover is correct and timely.
Check whether the temperature inside rack is too high and whether there is an
empyreuma smell in the equipment room, and whether the equipment room
environment meets local requirements. Any problems should be reported and recorded
timely.
1.2.1.3 Checking the communication between the foreground and the background
Operation guide:
View whether there is any communication interruption in the alarm report and use the
file manager to display the MP files of respective modules. The return result should be
displayed correctly and duly. If the command is timeout or the result returned is very
slowly, please check and analyze the causes.
1.2.1.4 Check the MP active/standby status of the foreground
Operation guide:
Click the standby MP on the rack status diagram of the background alarm report, and
the status diagram pops up. Click Status for several times, and observe whether the
status display changes are correct and timely. If interruption timeout or slow reporting,
it indicates that the communication between the active and standby MPs may be
abnormal.
1.2.1.5 View the working statuses of the background server and respective terminals
Operation guide:
Make some simple modification operations on the server and maintenance terminals to

The conditions include number of blocked trunks, number of idle trunks, number of
occupied trunks and total number of trunks. Observe whether any trunks are blocked or
whether any trunk is seized abnormally (for a long time, or all the trunks are seized)
1.2.1.16 View the operation of resource circuits
Operation guide:
You can observe the use of the trunk circuits in real time by selecting of Trunk Group
Status in Trunk Status under Data Management Dynamic Data Management
Dynamic Data Management Circuit Status Observation and Processing.
Analyze whether the trunk status is normal and the capacity of the voice channels is
enough according to the observation result. You can also observe the use of resource
circuits in real time such as the MFC status, DTMF status, tone circuit, caller
identification display circuit under selecting Data Management Dynamic Data
Management Dynamic Data Management Circuit Status Observation and
Processing. The resource circuits may be seized or released in time and there should
have a certain margin to speech channel capacity.
1.2.1.17 Check the status of the switch clock
Operation guide:
Click active/standby SYCK boards under System Maintenance Background
Alarm Select a Module to Display the Rack Diagram to view their statuses.
Click Status repeatedly, and the SYCK phase change specified operation times
should be at a fixed value, and the SYCK current phase value should not wander
beyond 5 up or down.
Select Charging Data Backup and Restore Data Backup input a time range
(usually 3 months ago) select a target disk and select all the charging data contents
to be backed up. Take care to select Delete the Original Data after Backup. Then the
data will be backed up at the maximum compression ratio. In this way, the charging
data 3 months ago will be deleted from the database but backed up on the disk, thus
releasing the database space.
1.2.2.6 SDH data backup
Perform this operation if the exchange uses the built-in SDH system part.
Operation guide:
Background maintenance interface SDH Management SDH Backup
Back up Current Database File (SQL mode or BCP mode). Usually SQL mode is
selected.
1.2.2.7 Sorting out the background server disk space
Operation guide:
Install the disk management tool Norton Speed Disk for Windows NT on the server.
Run Norton Speed Disk to enter Schedule Options and set the disk management
schedule for C:, D: and E: once a month. In this way, Norton Speed Disk will manage
the server disk once a month.
Usually the disk for ticket backup should have 20% free space, otherwise, clear some
contents to ensure enough free space.
1.2.2.8 Sorting out the charging server disk space
Operation guide:
Install the disk management tool Norton Speed Disk for Windows NT on the server.
Run Norton Speed Disk to enter schedule options and set the disk management
schedule for C: , D: and E: once a month. In this way, Norton Speed Disk will manage
the server disk once a month.
Since the backup ticket *.bil files are backed up under E:\B ILLBAK directory of
the charging server, they should be copied to a movable disk such as MO disk to
release the space.
