Exercise 11 B) MicroSCADA Licensing

11.1 General Information


11.1.1 Abstrac
MicroSCADA requires some preparation tasks to get running the MicroSCADA for
our DEMO application.

11.1.2 Objectives
If you complete this exercise you should be able to:

Start MicroSCADA software

Open MicroSCADA monitor

Import/installation of MicroSCADA license file.

Restart/Stop of MicroSCADA application

Verification of MicroSCADA license

11.2 Training environment


Windows XP (Professional) or Windows 2000SP4.

Software versions installed:


-

MicroSCADA SYS600 V9.2 or V9.3

Demo LicenseV9.2 or V9.3 available

11.3 Exercise
Install MicroSCADA license file.

11.3.1 Exercise description (Expert Level)


Do the exercise described above.

11.3.2 Step by Step Description (Normal Level)


11.3.2.1 First startup of MicroSCADA
MicroSCADA installation should have placed following shortcut to run MicroSCADA
programs. Open this shortcut.

You will see following collection of programs:

Open SYS 600 Notify window this window will show you the current status of the
MicroSCADA program execution.

This window will indicate that no MicroSCADA is started so far.

Select the shortcut SYS 600 Control Panel.


The MicroSCADA Control Panel appears which is used to administer and Start/Stop
MicroSCADA application.

Start MicroSCADA Service. Following messages will appear in the notification


window:

WARNING: indicates that there is no valid license installed. This means many
feature are not available and communication is disabled.
MicroSCADA Service dialog prompts you to confirm that MicroSCADA Service is
started successfully!

11.3.2.2 Opening MicroSCADA classic monitor

Open a MicroSCADA monitor using SYS 600 Monitor


shortcut. Following dialog appears:

Just select OK with the


standard values or if you
like you can choose a
different size of window.
Monitors can also be
preconfigured. (See file
monitors.dat in the directory
..\sc\sys\active\sys)

When you open the MicroSCADA monitor there are a few messages regarding some
conversion. This is due to the first time you open the monitor and MicroSCADA is
therefore preparing the application.

Application name is TUTOR as you can see it in the windows header. So far no
username and password is required since the application is not yet fully prepared.

After choosing Login the Tool Manager window will open.

11.3.2.3 Installation of MicroSCADA License


Generally licensing for customer is done by a license file and a dongle. For training
purpose we have a time limited license key available which runs for 1 month.
Installation of License is done by using License tool within MicroSCADA program.

Verify License information

Press Apply button to register the license file.


Following information dialog appears which asks you to restart to MicroSCADA
application.

11.3.2.4 Restart/stop of MicroSCADA application


To restart the application you have to use again the MicroSCADA Control Panel.

Press Stop.

Select Yes.

Message dialog informs you that MicroSCADA


Service is stopped.

And also the Notification Window detects loss of connection to MicroSCADA. This
means the MicroSCADA is stopped successfully.
Select Clear button so for the next start of MicroSCADA we will have an empty
screen.
Now you start the MicroSCADA again. Use the MicroSCADA Control Panel as
shown in 11.3.2.1 .

11.3.2.5 Verification of MicroSCADA License


This time there should not be any messages regarding the incomplete license.
However if you are only using a time limited licenses as it is used for standard training
you can see in how many days the license will expire as shown in the example below.

In the MicroSCADA monitor you can also find information about to who is the license
is registered to.

MicroSCADA installation is licensed now!
