Updates to the standard for safety footwear

EN ISO 20345:2011

Construction of the rear section:

In this lower section, no hole other than
those required for stitching is permissible.

Resistance of the rear section to

abrasion (support zone):
In the laboratory test, no hole must appear
before the following number of cycles have
been completed:
51,200 cycles when dry
25,600 cycles when wet

Anti-penetration inserts:
The metal or textile insert must
offer total protection against
penetration.
At 1100N, the point must not
show any signs of penetration.

Height of the cleats:

Height of the cleats on the soles for S1/S2 or S3 category shoes:
The cleats must be over 2.5 mm deep.

Marking on the outsoles:

The claims marked on the outsoles must correspond to a function validated
by a normative test:
Oil resistance
The sole must comply with the FO requirements that defines resistance to fuel oil.
Antistatic
The shoe must comply with electrical resistance measurements for antistatic requirements
of the standard.
Acid resistance
The shoe must be tested according to the EN 13832-1 standard, in line with the requirements
in paragraphs 6.2.2.3 (deterioration tests).
Heat Resistant Outsole HRO
The outsole must comply with the constraints of this additional requirement for the standard.

Additional changes
Recertification requirement: New legislation requires the recertification, before 30th June 2013, of all products
certified under any previous version of the standard. This is a new requirement, as at the time of the previous
upgrade to the standard (from the 2004 version to the 2007 version), recertification was not mandatory.
Removal of the I marking (Insulating): No longer possible to certify electrical insulating footwear under
EN ISO 20345:2011 standard. Electrically insulating shoes must fullfill EN 50321 standard.
Resistance to fuel oil (FO): The FO is no longer a fundemental requirement,
but an additional requirement.

A new category, SBH: Creation of a new category for hybrid footwear.
