Success is something that is different for everyone. For many, success is measured by the
amount of materialistic and worldly gain. Personally, I view success as much more than just a simple,
tangible gain. First and foremost, I believe success is defined by a persons level of contentment towards
his or life, i.e. how happy they are with their life. Secondly, I believe that a persons overall stability in
life is a key aspect in measuring how successful a person is. Finally, a persons social life and honor they
have achieved throughout their life is also a key aspect in defining success.
Being content with life is a very important aspect in regards to defining a persons success. If a
person is not happy with what he or she has earned in life, they have not truly achieved success. By
being content and grateful with what one has achieved in life, their contentment will decrease ones
level of greed and insatiable desire for material possessions. Moreover, one will feel satisfied with less.
Furthermore, by being content, a person will feel a sense of satisfaction with regards to the effort he or
she has made in life to achieve their person goals. Ultimately, when one is content with their life, they
will feel at ease and peaceful. Whereas the one who is discontent will always desire more and be upset
at their condition. Every situation they encounter in life will force them to second guess themselves and
desire more. Thus, success is largely about how satisfied one is with their life. All things considered, if a
person acquires contentment and gratitude in their daily life, then they are truly successful as they will
be satisfied and happy with whatever life has to offer.
Success is also defined in terms of how stable ones life is. Stability in life is very important in
being considered successful because with stability a person will be able to live peacefully and securely,
without worrying about the necessities of life. One can measure their level of success by seeing how
stable they are. Once a person is truly stable, they can provide for themselves, as well as their family on
a consistent basis. By being stable in life, a person can be certain that all of the necessary needs in life
are fulfilled. Therefore, a person will be able to live a comfortable life without any stress or worry of
having a lack of resources in regards to their own well-being. Thus achieving stability in life is an integral
part of success.
A persons social life and honor that they have achieved in life also defines success. It is
pointless to achieve anything in life unless there are people you have in life to share it with. A persons
social life is measured by honor; if one does not have honor amongst people, then his or achievements
in life are worthless because he or she will only have themselves in life. Therefore, being a respected
individual in society and having good relations with neighbors, friends, and family, are very important to
a persons success because this will develop their social life and honor. Success is being happy, and
without having family and friends in life to share that happiness, it becomes pointless.
In conclusion, success is a way to measure a persons life; however, success itself is viewed
differently and varies in terms of definition depending on the individual. Personally, I view success as an
outcome of how a person has lived throughout his or her life, and I define this aspect in having
contentment, stability, having honor in society as well as a social life. Being content will allow one to
remain happy throughout of all lifes obstacles. Weather rich or poor, if one is content they will
ultimately be happy and thus, successful. Stability is also integral because it allows one to prosper and
provide without worrying about the necessities of life. Moreover, with an honorable social life one can
share their happiness with those around them. Also, in times of distress they have someone to lean on.
Without honor and sociability one cannot be considered successful as society will not accept them.
Finally, whilst chasing success one should realize that success is ongoing and not an end goal as the
brilliant statesman Winston Churchill once said: Success is not final, failure is not fatal: is is the courage
to continue that counts.
