realised th at a lot gf th e pieces 113 was recording ware h av ing a
definite affect on h is body/mind wh en h o was listening back to
th em , so h e decided to inv estigate th is. After th at, h e only used sou-
nds th at h ad an emotional content or were associated with a v ery
emotional experience e. g. a baby crying, any disaster wh ere lots of
people died or wh ere oth erwise affected, sex, etc... He th en took th e-
se sounds and disguised th em, layering sounds on top of sounds so
th eir origin could not De ascertained . He tban played th e sounus/pi-
eces at people see if th ey could feel th at emotional content of
th e sounds. He' s found th at th is only works some of th e time,with
. some people. For this Jerman says"! th ink th at one h as to be a good
listener,not somecms wh o generally listens to music for entertain-
ment purposes. "And addswI do not consider HAi-iUS TO works to bs mu-
sical. T h ey are sounds being used to impart information,yes,but
th eir logic is not th e logic of any musical system th at I Know of..
I guess it's up to the listener th en".
At th is time Jerman is preparing a split 7" with Mapotte Mu-
ziak and th e "Flatline"lp (it' 11 be av ailable from h i _ T RI S UPPL Y so-
metime later this year). Flatline deals in sounds ma^e by or asso-
ciated with ,people wh o are no longer liv ing(?I I I ) .Be ' s come to t-
h ink of the process of recording inv olv ed in Hands To as flatlining
Jerrnan says thaf'an acoustical term meaning an unch arging sound
th at is constant". Hands To h as played a couple of gigs in Colorado
springs , Moulder Colorado,etc. Jerman doesn' t do it v ery often becau-
se it takes a lot of preparation,h e generally uses films in additi
to make a lot of new films on to sound in
