Production bases

JFE Steel Corporation West Japan Works is the worlds largest and most powerful steelworks that produces not only steel bars and wire rods, but also steel sheets and plates, electrical steel sheets, and shape steel products.
Our production bases consist of two large-scale coastal steelworks located in eastern and western Japan and Chita Works, which produces pipes and tubes, and these bases effectively produce high quality iron and steel products with state-of-the-art technologies. Each Works has a Steel Research Laboratory that supports JFE Steels technologies.

<Overview>

Advance process technologies enable the production of high quality products.

Sintering plant
Iron ore and limestone are heated and hardened to form sintered ore.

Blast furnace
Iron ore is melted and reduced to pig iron.

Steel converter
After the pig iron is poured into the furnace, oxygen is blown in to remove carbon and refine to molten steel.

Continuous casting
The molten steel is continuously cast into blooms.

Research and development

Our world-leading R&D system is pioneering new steel bar and wire rod technologies.

Delayed fracture strength/MPa

We propose total solutions ranging from material development to products.

JFE Steel Research Laboratory is one of the worlds largest research laboratories (in the steel industry).
Control of inclusions and segregation Dimensional precision, temperature and heat treatment analysis, and prediction of material properties

Development of high performance steel bars

We improved the fatigue strength of components by integrating surface technologiessuch as carburizing, quenching and induction quenchingwith steel composition design technologies in order to offer products with optimally controlled metallic structures that meet customers needs.

Creation of new technologies through the integration of different technologies
Specialty steel is machined and thermally treated by customers before use. We work to develop steel products that can be efciently machined and thermally treated by customers. In addition, we work to develop steel products that do not require thermal treatment for the purpose of saving energy. Furthermore, we promote the elimination of the thermal rening process from the manufacturing processes of steel bars in order to contribute to the protection of the global environment.
