Excellent quality
Automatic aw detection of round billet surfaces has enabled the manufacture of steel bars and wire rods that have high surface quality. In addition, the adoption of round billet peeling has enabled the manufacture of awless wire rods.

Production bases
JFE Steel Corporation West Japan Works is the worlds largest and most powerful steelworks that produces not only steel bars and wire rods, but also steel sheets and plates, electrical steel sheets, and shape steel products.
Our production bases consist of two large-scale coastal steelworks located in eastern and western Japan and Chita Works, which produces pipes and tubes, and these bases effectively produce high quality iron and steel products with state-of-the-art technologies. Each Works has a Steel Research Laboratory that supports JFE Steels technologies.

The Kurashiki Area of the West Japan Works has the good fortune of being located in the Setouchi Area. This area has a mild climate and faces the Seto Inland Sea, which is rich in water resources and is called a natural canal, and it also has deep harbors. The site area is about 11,000,000 m2, about 250 times that of the Tokyo Dome. Steel bars and wire rods are produced mainly in the Kurashiki Area.

Sintering plant
Iron ore and limestone are heated and hardened to form sintered ore.
Blast furnace
Iron ore is melted and reduced to pig iron.
Steel converter
After the pig iron is poured into the furnace, oxygen is blown in to remove carbon and refine to molten steel.
Continuous casting
The molten steel is continuously cast into blooms.

Coke is manufactured from roasted coal at high temperature in coke plant.
Hot-metal pretreatment
Oxygen and lime are blown in to hot metal to remove sulfur and phosphorus of impurities.
